just wondered if snow makes covid disappear? i mean, walking the dog around the fields this morning and seems like the rules have gone out the window.

groups of 20 plus messing around in the snow, snow fights and usual snow entertainment

chatted to another dog walker, at least 4m distance and they informed me it was like it all over town

another spike in a few weeks!!

Just got back from a walk. Lots of little groups of people enjoying the snow. Clearly from different households. One area was like a mini super spreader event.

We are about 5 miles up the road from you and that didn't happen here.

A group of about 30 having a chat and messing about in the snow on the green and groups of 3 or 4 women with buggies none of them social distancing.

Honestly I wouldn't blame them. Our local park and fields have been busy with people out enjoying the snow. It's a lot harder to catch covid outdoors and there's nothing else to do. Most people we saw at least has scarves around their faces if not actual masks.

We had heavy snow here 10 days ago. The roads were too treacherous to drive on, so there were no 'non-essential' journeys. Lots of families (including mine) went out to play in the snow. I didn't see any family groups in close proximity that caused alarm, just lots of fun outdoors, running up and down hills with sledges, all good exercise.

There are some real killjoys here, allow families a little light relief when the last year has been so hard.

Yet quite a few were critical of play parks in the thread last week

Then you add in other groups of people, if it's acceptable for today's playful events then why can't people watch football or rugby, even play golf together

Goodness, it's almost like you're trying to argue that increased social interaction is ok during a lockdown trying to reduce social interaction!

Families playing together is fine, therefore so is all this other stuff!

But why not allow to watch events outside ... from what I seen today, most were exercising their jaws

I spent most of the day sat in hospital wearing the full PPE that the staff wear, watching my Grandad gasping for breath and wondering if he'd die or not today (the hospital certainly thought he would). I didn't notice the people outside. I hope they noticed the situation in the world.

My little one has been waiting for it to snow since we got the Christmas books out back in early November! Staying in for almost a year shielding has been hard enough but staying in when its snowed would be impossible!

We kept to our own space and stepped back when people walked by , which they did as everyone wanted to be out enjoying something for a change.

yes my son is going to school.. People building snowmen is not a crime and in a front line worker fighting against covid... its hardly the beaches of Dorset

Who said it was?

People from what I have seen on this thread have been complaining about large groups of people.

Being a critical worker does not make you exempt from following the rules and actually it is no different than a beach in Dorset.

But this is the problem isn't it because it's easy to say well we felt justified to do this, Look at those people over there they are breaking the rules.

We all need to look at our own actions rather than pointing the finger at others.

I have no idea whether you broke the rules today but just saying well it isn't as bad as a beach in Dorset is not justification.

Alas I've seen this behaviour all along from the younger less vulnerable. Such a shame that it hasn't got through the threat they're posing to their parents/grandparents? However with the contradictory and confusing advice being spouted by the authorities I suppose it's inevitable that there is confusion and abuse?

I don't think the issue is playing in the snow.

It's getting too close to people who don't live in your household where the issue is. Without being a killjoy yes the kids have had a tough year, but then so haven't we all? I've worked all through covid in my admin role at the local main city hospital for my area. I've had one crappy 3 days at the seaside in Sept and cancelled every other holiday we planned.

At the end of the day you have to look at your own conscience. Yes you and your family might be healthy, but you don't know what everybody else is carrying......

Stay safe, live longer. It's got to end soon then we can all go to the parks/beaches & pubs together

ps, on a recent trip to the park with my grandaughter i was appalled at the amount of grown ups stood together chatting while the kids played. Do they not know there is a killer on the loose?

How is that judging because you're not meant to be mixing with just because you go to school with them. I just don't understand your logic because you are criticising people that went to the beach to have fun when it was hot but not a people who are meeting up together because it's cold and snowing.

Yes there are individual circumstances that are understandable but it is unfair to criticise people that have Legitimate concerns.

You should see the message that my 18yo son sent to his 61yo Grandmother, whose completely irresponsible behaviour has put my son's Great Grandad/my Grandad (89) in hospital with Covid. In my circle, it's the middle aged to early 70s members who are the ones playing Russian Roulette, not the young ones.

and snowmen melt.. but at least it gave kids a bit of fun from a life you could never have imagined as a kid

My Olaf comment was meant in jest.... Anyway. You have no idea what people's childhoods were like, to be fair. Using my own as a basis, my 3yo has had a far superior experience over the past year compared to me at the same age. For my son (18), I'd say his experience has been both richer and poorer and that my own life at 18 was so different, with totally different priorities, that I'm not sure I could compare.

If you've read any of my thread about my Grandad and his health and you read about my mother, you might find out why I'd choose Coronaworld over 1988 as my year of choice to be 3.

But that's me. None of us can make a sweeping conclusion that all children are having a poorer experience right now. Some are, some aren't. Same as adults. Mr KC is perfectly happy, I'm much less so, with the "stay at home" range of activities, for example.

This is what I take issue with: I don't see that building a snowman and playing in the snow with your family IS breaking the rules. I think it's entirely within the overnment's rules (staying lical, taking outdoor exercise, not mixing with other family groups) and that's why I didn't condemn it.

Iv looked through and can't see one.

I just think people like to attack people and call them killjoys if they don't have the same opinion.

Nobody has a problem with a family enjoying the snow, It's the fact there are so many in a lot of the pictures I have seen online or with my own eyes out of my window I can tell you this is not just families.

The opening post clearly says groups of 20 yet people have decided that people are attacking individual families and that hasn't happened and this thread.

if people feel pitchforks are being raised on either side people will raise theirs in retaliation.. its how wars.. particularly civil wars.

snowballs fights are more fun tho.

remember people have been told fresh air is good, people maybe scared being inside in unventilated...

You have picked a fight when there wasn't one to pick.

One person made a vague comment about it not being exercise to build Snowman.

Everybody else has agreed with you but just said that it isn't just families and there have been big groups mixing.

You were the only person that suggested playing in the snow was OK but somehow going to a beach wasn't.

Like I said picking a fight when there wasn't one.

I will say it one more time nobody has said families can't go out when enjoy themselves, People have said they have a problem with big groups gathering.

I'm not finding supermarkets at all bad. I time my visits for when they are generally quieter. Can get the goods in much shorter time than pre pandemic. If I go and there's a queue or its looking busy, I'll go back another time.

No snow right here ATM but a few houses around here haven't stopped persistent visits (you can tell by how much of the road their vehicles take up). Feral kids roaming from house to house in their little gangs as well. With any luck the colder damper weather might keep them indoors for a bit.

im sure it would be busier if the sun was out. i have to force my kids out the door most of the time.. lol.. just imagine how bad it would be without their devices
