Yet again heard about someone I know not being able to have the cancer treatment they so desperately need, because of Covid. They will now die in 6-8 weeks.

Cancer kills way more people than Covid ever will in the uk.

It's so frustrating, upsetting and wrong.

Sorry to hear that OP,

It seems it’s a lottery where you live. I know of three people all diagnosed in October (3 different parts of the country) and their treatment, surgery etc hasn’t been affected by the virus impact.

Most certainly variable around the country, I know a few people who are having cancer treatments and none have been effected by the situation. I suspect that it's particularly related to how much capacity the hospitals in the area have. The cases in our local area have not been as bad as many places.

Although you are completely right about the severity of cancers, people who are suffering from covid take a lot of resources due to the severe breathing difficulties.

A guy who worked with me briefly was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer in October. He had immediate chemo. They wanted to operate but he was too weak and he died last week. He died because the cancer was aggressive; his treatment continued.

It does seem to vary in different places, depending on other pressures.

It breaks my heart, the minority always suffer for the majority, right or wrong, I can't see why an entire hospital can't be put aside for cancer treatment. I'm sure it's not that easy, right doctor right place etc, but it's a crying shame.

This ia tragic and just one example of what could have been treatable conditions being transformed into serious illnesses and even deaths, now and in the years ahead. Millions of important scheduled tests and treatments have been postponed or cancelled and many people are now too scared to go their GP's or hospital with new symptoms or conditions. This is the flip side of the covid coin.

I hate reading things like this really upsets me

They must be 1000s out there in the same situation can’t get treatment and every appointment been cancelled

I don’t know why the government don’t get its act together

Surely hospital are not over crowded with everyone working on covid wards and these bloody Nightingale hospital why not use them

A relative had cancer at beginning of last year, had op, chemo. No issues. Lives near london tho. So maybe depends on where you live.

It really is a postcode lottery and awful situation to be in.

I was diagnosed in august, just as the country was ‘stable’ if that’s the right terminology. I’ve undergone 2 surgeries and am now half way through my chemotherapy. I’m fully aware of how fortunate I am having not experienced any delays. Some of the stories you here are just awful.

Genuinely feel some of the private hospitals across the uk and medical teams within them should have been isolated and used for emergency surgeries and treatments, even if it meant you have to travel a little further.
