Can't understand why lockdown isn't working.

They need to investigate why the school was open to allow it. And why the windows were blacked out. What the fuck is wrong with people?

They should get the Derby serious crime / community police to do it.

"320,000£ in fines if my maths is correct"

It was a Jewish school.

Only the organisers (£10k) and five guests (£200) got fined.

If everyone runs, they haven't got much chance of catching many in fairness, if every fire escape in the school burst open and 400 people started piling out, it would take a few police to stop and detain that lot. I guess if they start investigating it like a serious crime, they could ID more, at what cost though.

The new £800 fine takes three days to get through the Commons, the Upper House then Royal Assent. So this one may not apply.

It may cost now but it sets a prescedent and then becomes a deterrent which saves more than the cost but is impossible to calculate.

Personally on the issue of paying out for those off due to Covid is a slippery slope I'm uncomfortable with.

Probably a lot less than the potential in fines. This is were we have listened to the top copper on tv last night saying they were coming down hard on it...well we are watching and it's no point bringing new laws in if you dont carry them through imo

This event must have been authorised by the head teacher and governors of the school.

What on earth were they thinking ?

The school is closed to pupils and yet they allow a wedding !

It totally beggers belief and i suggest at the very least the head resigns - but of course they wont.

Priti Patel is all bluster and no action. Typical politician who spouts what she thinks people want to hear but does nothing to back it up. She is a poisin dwarf who should not even be still in her post. She is happy to be nasty to her staff but will never be sacked by Boris because she is an arse licker, like all his bum chum cabinet. There is not one of them who sounds believable when they open their mouths. There is going to be an element of the public who will never confirm to the covid rules and therefore are directly responsible for the daily death tolls. Disgraceful.

Apparently the school lease the hall out, via a third party.

The school are rightly appalled, have terminated the arrangement with the third party and will not lease the hall out again during the pandemic.

We won't do it again honest!

Seriously, we are in lock down. What made them think renting the hall out was permitted let alone responsible? There's more to this than meets the eye. I imagine there are a few connections that need exploring further.

I agree.

The school would have been aware because unless they have a different system to the school I work in and it has a similar thing where it's a 3rd party but it is still the school care taker that opens up the building and often stays on or at least Regularly monitors the site during the duration of the event.

The fact that this was a Jewish school and a Jewish (presumably) wedding is totally irrelevant as far as I am concerned.

It does not may me think less of any other Jewish people or organisations.

For me these folks are foolish at best, idiotic or stupid at the worst; their religious beliefs are not the issue here their judgement is.

As for the school being aware, surely even if this was arranged by a third party then surely the school have to be informed about any function for health and safety assessments, insurance purposes, and safeguarding issues.

As a school governor for many years with responsibility for lettings nothing and I mean nothing happened in our buildings without he head and governors knowing and a school caretaker present.

From my expertise in event management over many years, the school may well have handed over the keys to a third party to organise events in their property, but doing so, they cannot absolve themselves of any blame, nor whinge "we'd no idea!"

They, as the property owners are still legally liable for any event being held on their premises and as the lawful saying goes, "ignorance is no defence" applies here.

It could occur as to who was the overall Licensee, who were the Personal Licence holders etc, what security there was and a whole raft of other legal clauses and who was responsible for them.

But if the local authorities plus the Police are on the ball, the place could end up being banned from having any events in future.

Certainly, why not question the Bride and Groom, as they knew likely knew of each guest invited? Then trace every one, and fine the whole damn lot!

But what goes through people's minds when they join several hundred others and think it's ok with a "it won't happen to me attitude!"

1 in 50 people in the UK have Covid 19. It follows then that at least 3 people at this wedding would of had Covid 19, even if they didn't know it. God knows how many other guests they would have spread it to in the time they were in the school hall, plus all the people those other guests will spread it to in turn.

The "Kent" strain is more transmissible and with a 30% higher mortality rate as well.

I'm shure the bride and groom plus all the guests will be very proud of themselves once the final death toll from an evening of fun is worked out.

"For some reason the BBC have studiously avoided telling people it was an authodox Jewish wedding. And to emphasise the stupidity... A rabbi who was formerly headmaster at the school died of Covid a few months ago.

No ones religion has anything to do with why rules are being broken, no different than they don’t mention the colour of someone’s skin.... neither have anything to do with why the rules were broken or the fines issued "

Indeed

"I feel every adult guest should be fined and organisers sent to prison.

I hope the jewish organisations publicly condenm this.

These arseholes encourage anti semetism they need to be made an example of in China would have locked them all up.

'Encourages anti semetism'?! For whom - people like you maybe? Yes, send them to China where over 1 million Uyghur Muslims are forcibly 'detained', persecuted and being killed in what can only be called concentration camps. Is that what you meant? Would you be happier ? If not, maybe keep your vile views to yourself. There's always one that will mention race . This is not about race , this is about rules and laws being broken, so why mention 'Jewish organisations'? As I said , a vile post

It was a Jewish wedding held in a Jewish school? "

What does race, colour have anything to with this? It's only relevant to an antisemite I'd suggest

What does anti semitism have to do with it?

Telling people if they speak the truth they are racist is bullying.

You need to read the posts properly before you bully!

It's a statement, like oranges are orange. To bully it has to have an intended target.

Let's turn this around. Let's imagine that the Police uncovered a Christian wedding taking place in a CofE School Church hall. Would any headlines be "Christian wedding in Christian venue busted for lockdown breaches" and would any poster on here make a point of highlighting the religious background of the event or ask that "Christian organisations" condemn it?

I don't know the precise answer to that question, but I suspect that Christianity would NOT be highlighted in the same way the Jewish faith has been here.

To be fair they did exactly that for the funeral they broke up in Hertfordshire... Explicitly stated it was aroman Catholic funeral.

No one really highlighted it though.. I think one person mentioned it and there have been a few rather bizarre comments about anti semitism.

Precisely and very well put. Exactly what I said and I'm accused of 'bullying'!

Probably the same person who rung 999 because the drive thru queue at Maccy Ds was so long that their breakfast menu changed to lunch menu.
