Becuase the fab forum is more reliable than google. has the birth rate dropped since covid landed in the uk?

I expect it should have somewhat. no clubs pubs, no meeting etc.

At a guestimate i would reckon down 10-15%

without googling, what is your guess?

Couples at home together more, time off work and no where to go....

This.

Given that I would expect (hope) most pregnancies to be in committed relationships.

Contraception still exists and even if we were of the age we certainly wouldn't be having kids right now either.

possibly but with less going out, drinking, one night stands etc.

Too early to know yet, really. Babies conceived in March will have been born in December. So until we've gone a good year (or maybe more) past the end of the pandemic restrictions, we won't have enough data to show a trend.

That's my boring science answer

May have gone up

Some women are having difficulty accessing their usual contraceptive services

It's only the beginning of the year so I'm guessing we'll all know better further down the line as months go along probably around middle of the year or close to Christmas

i think an early boom from the start of first lockdown when it was a novelty , furlough was new, sun was shining and people where in back yard happy holiday mode ... the sick of being locked up together took a while to kick for most

i certainly know a few couples just about to give birth

getting access to normal contraceptive services has been quite frankly ridiculous ... luckily i just use mine to manage hormones and headaches ... nobody to sleep with in a lockdown lol

Risen dramatically according to my midwife friends usually people have babies with partners not people they meet on fab or in the pub

I can't take any hormonal contraceptives because of a bleeding disorder and my appointment for a consultation to be sterilised back in March was cancelled

I rely on condoms for now

The only plus side being that access to telephone consultations/home termination of pregnancy service have been made available if needed which is such a huge step in the right direction

At a guess i would say maybe evened out to be similar to previous years.

The first lockdown of novelty probably created an extra amount. But fertility help and clinics were shut / doing minimum.

I think some people were then put off trying due to strange circumstances of not being able to have partners or support attending appointments and or births.(depending on hospital trusts rules)

It's risen hugely. Expect the same in 8/9 months time.

I would have really struggled if there were no NCT groups or play sessions to go to. I went to a different one every morning just to get out of the house and chat to other adults
