What no-one has said so far is after 12 weeks of injecting people they are due a 2nd jab to complete the course, if we are doing 200,000 a day with initial ones that must come to a complete halt to give the 2nd one surely?

Same for my partner's mum.

She was also one of the first though.

The thing is by the time most of those people will need their 2nd jab we should have completed the majority of the top 8 priority groups.

So if the roll out of the next group is delayed by a couple of weeks it's not the end of the world because those that are most likely to end up very sick and needing hospital treatment will be fully vaccinated.

Therefore taking the pressure off.

The xcel centre in London has opened today with an open invite for those that are over 70 or have a shielding letter.

We are really starting to motor now.

The volume of the first jabs was much lower than the capacity will be, when they become due to have their belated 2nd jab. The capacity then should be sufficient to get all of the first tranche completed with just a part of the increased capacity addressing them. That said, I am expecting the 12 weeks target to be missed for some, as they will keep trumpeting the trillions being done per day and that everyone will be able to have a jab by Easter, or whatever date seems attractive at the time. I think the first tranche will be a little overlooked and left behind in the rush to make all seem bright. Sad, if this is the happens!

its also within 12 weeks not necessarily at 12 weeks

so at week 6 they could switch 50% of capacity to 2nd jabs which would mean by week 12 everyones second jab is done while we still are reaching new people every week

I did see a GP being interviewed on the BBC news yesterday I think.

She was asked about how they were going to roll out the 2nd vaccine without it impacting on people having the 1st.

Her answer was the some have already had the 2nd but the roll out of the 2nd vaccine should not impact on people having the 1st and there are plans in place in her local PCN to have separate facilities to do these.

That is a shame but it is fantastic news that they had to actually turn people away because there are too many. I hope you get what I mean by that.

Not necessarily. The way they are ramping up the rate, say as you put it, 200,000 then at week 12, be doing 400,000. At the present, they're doing over 300,000 and looking to go higher

Ten further mass vaccination centres will open in England this week, in addition to the seven that opened last week.

NHS England chief executive Sir Simon Stevens said that a coronavirus patient is admitted to hospital “every thirty seconds” – but that the health service is vaccinating at a rate of “140 jabs a minute”.

I mean Pfizer going "you guys wtf are you doing delaying the dose" and Raab not guaranteeing everyone will get a second dose...

Plus track record. World beating

Scunthorpe

The expectation is that the capability to deliver vaccines will continue to increase as the weeks go on. It should be much more than twice the rate that they are currently doing.

Also, even though delaying the second dose isn't ideal, to get 50-60% immunity into The Masses will probably reduce the infection rate quicker than having half as many people with 95%.

we cant keep upping the rate exponentially though , every time capacity goes up we have doubled what we need in 12 weeks time if we want to keep vaccinating the same number of new people each week

this is why i think at some point the need to say ok we are steady now lets move half our capacity to 2nd jabs and plan from here
