Questions about the vaccine???

Anyone hadn't an insight into the strangest thing I've heard so far.

My next door neighbours are both in there 80s and both have had their letter offering them the covid-19 stage 1 vaccination. Both are reasonably healthy despite their age and neither have had covid because they are sensible and keep very safe and distanced.

Here's the strange part, they both have their option of vaccination on the same day, at the same in 2 completely different towns.

1 of them is local (as in home town, 5 minutes walk) the other has a 45 mile trip up north to make.

I've read the letters, it's all legitimate, nothing fake about it but I can't for the life of me work out why they need to be vaccinated in 2 completely different areas.

One doesn't have to make the 45 minute trip. They can go online or ring the phone number to change the appointment

Thats a very good point.

I'll be mentioning that.

I just wondered why they would have given them both 2 completely different places to go to in the first place.

I assume the letters will have been generated by age, with the oldest getting the closer offer, then when that was full giving slightly younger OAPs the supercentre further away.

Possibly, both are mid 80s and I know the gentleman of the couple is 86 but I've never had the cheek to ask how old his wife is, she's in her 80s though.

I'll be sure to mention the option to change the location though cos they are very understandably a little concerned about the distance and I'd hate for either of them to be under any unnecessary stress about it.

No it's not being done that way as far as I know.

I know people that are 80 but have had the vaccine and people that 87 that haven't been offered it.

It is very possible that they have been given to different options.

Is it to separate letters or the same letter because it could just be they are being e

Offered two different locations and they can choose which one may take up.

Definitely worth giving the GP surgery a call for clarification though.

Its 2 seperate letters.

Both are very legitimate and official so that's not a concern, its the 2 completely different locations that doesn't make sense.

I've already suggested ringing their GP to query it a couple of days ago but the lady of the couple is getting a little worried about having to travel the 45 miles up north, we've assured her it must be a mistake and we'll help to correct it cos the last thing anyone wants amidst this madness is needless stress for a couple in their 80s

They are probably just generated letters and people are being offered two different locations in your area and it just so happens they've both been offered different ones even though they live in the same house but I'm sure it could be changed.

If you look on the NHS website or the BBC website there is info about this. The appointment is an offer which doesn't need to be accepted. If she declines she won't miss out. Don't ring the GP. Go online or ring the phone number on the letter and change the appointment. She doesn't have to travel 45 minutes. She just will need to wait a little longer to get one local.
