"I've never understood not wearing masks..if you cant wear one if yr vulnerable then you shouldn't be out So somebody with a disability who is in vulnerable to the virus but cannot wear a face covering because they have a mental illness, Autism or severe learning difficulty should not go out? The attitudes regarding disability is disgusting. " If they are exempt then that is a different matter.

My brother has cerebral palsy, profound learning disabilities He is also ( I hate this term ) a spastic quadriplegic and has bladder cancer on and off for the last 7 years. He is in the vulnerable group high risk group. He can wear a mask, but as he dis t understand why and disnt like wearing it he will scream if off if manage to move his head around untill it comes down. So from what your saying he should be confined to just his flat and should of been since the first lockdown. To me the fact that those who are able to wear masks but don't is part the reason he hasn't been out apart from walks since then. Not all black and white. * He happens to be the happiest person you could ever wish to meet.

"The whole mask enforcement would be so much easier in general if people who are genuinely exempt are able to use a standardised way to show this in a discrete way to store staff. A little flash card or badge as to not invade on people’s privacy and antagonise people with actual exemptions. I know for a fact when I go round shops there are definitely those who aren’t exempt but will use that as an excuse to not follow the rules." That is available and the majority of people that are genuinely exempt do carry them. Shop staff are normally exceptionally understanding its members of the public that can be aggressive, intolerant and abusive.

"No i don't really have a clue but tell me groups of people that really cant wear face masks..actual reasons not excuses" The government has provided a list, helpfully. I fail to see how the list, which is largely disabilities or medical conditions, is anything other than reasons. Those with disabilities and illnesses are as entitled to an independent life as you are.

"I think personally that because their are loads of people who suffer from asthma and allergies should have a type of card which they must carry to state reason for not having to wear a mask because loads of people are trying to use the excuses I can't breathe properly with a mask and these cards must have little personal information about the individual and be shown whether traveling public transport or entering businesses or even place of work so on " So because some people take the piss, others need to disclose private medical information?

"Personally I applaud and would favour any supermarket that enforces wearing masks .. and avoid those that don’t! I feel genuinely unsafe on an indoor environment with people not wearing masks. They have a duty of care to ensure the safety of their customers - and should take this more seriously. I know of one supermarket that offered face visors to those who chose not to wear a mask or said they couldn’t ... which is not unreasonable ... it was perhaps not unsurprising that many opted for the mask then, not wanting to wear a visor!! ... funny old thing! I accept there is a minority who can’t wear a mask for medical reasons, some for respiratory issues, who as others have alluded to should most definitely be shielding, and a smaller minority who have psychological issues ... however there is a significant number of Covidiots who can’t be bothered to, or simply don’t want to .. which makes it hard to know the genuine ones. Personal choice - but I will shop in those shops that meet my needs and take my safety seriously! R xx" There’s a lot of people who speed but we don’t all get banned from driving. "I've never understood not wearing masks..if you cant wear one if yr vulnerable then you shouldn't be out " There are people who don't have to wear a mask who do not have to be permanently confined to home, hospital etc. There's a big problem still within larger groups shopping together. If they live together and are all infected, they will leave huge levels of virus they've shed, wherever they go. I'm more bothered by groups shopping together than imposing stress on those who need to shop and don't have to or can't wear a covering

"Need to sort there staff out first, We did our monthly shop last week & while till & general store staff where masked up other staff possibly office/warehouse were not. I’d expect to see the odd person due to exemptions but there were at least five or six of them wandering about. "According to BBC news. Should the rest of retail outlets follow suit? Bout time to...its a joke..so many people who just wont play the game if they wont play the game they should be thrown out of the shop, banned and fined. Trouble is, its the poor bastards that work in supermarket security that will have to challenge people How much actual power do they have, and are they gonna potentially put themselves in harms way? agreed it would be security that deal with it, but it should be made law so they have backing. if you cant show youre exempt you shouldnt be allowed in. " I agree But its still the security guys that have to challenge potentially aggressive customers With little power

"I've never understood not wearing masks..if you cant wear one if yr vulnerable then you shouldn't be out I agree. I think all shops should ban them. Time to get tough. So you want to ban disabled people do you. Also If you had read the article properly You would know they are not banning people for not wearing a mask. They are asking people to be kind and except that some people are medical exempt and these people are still welcome in store it is those that are refusing to wear a mask that will no longer be welcome. So without challenge how do u diferenchate?? X That's the point you don't. My sister lives on the Isle of Wight and cannot get a delivery from her local co-op, The delivery slots for Iceland are OK but they often don't have everything she needs, also the 3 pound delivery charge is something but she cannot afford every time she needs some bread. I'm not gonna argue with u seem hell bent on not listening to reason and as I said am unwell so not up to it! But have a lovely eve xx But you are not giving any reason you are saying everybody can get a delivery when that isn't true, You are saying that disabled people should not go out to shop if they cannot where a mask that is also not true and not what supermarket all the government are advocating. Say something reasonable and I may well agree with you but so far you haven't. I doubt u would tbh! And as I said I'm not feeling well so cant b arsed also worrying about other family members at mo a friend from supermarket who's in icu with covid! 2 granddaughters who lost their other nan and grandad 2 days apart with covid over xmas so will bail out wouldn't want to say something might regret x " I'm sorry you are having a shitty time and I hope things improve but that doesn't excuse your attitude towards disabled people.

"The charges for delivery/ click and collect have gone up a lot in the last year, not everyone can afford it. And usual waiting time is over a week. I hate going shopping at the moment, but I'm not clinically vulnerable, so I rarely if ever get a delivery. I hope that those who are, can. I am exempt, which is not the same thing as clinically vulnerable." Can u get delivaroo in your area just a thought? I had one yesterday and they collect from co op and deliver to doorstep contactless think it was £1.50 x

There is no two sides to this. People who have a face covering exemption are entitled to go to the local shop to buy essential items regardless of whether they can or cannot get a delivery. Neither the supermarkets or the government are saying that these people should not be able to go about their business the same as anyone else

That's awfully sad about yr brother, but during a pandemic he needs to go shopping? " Well he still gotta eat lol We are so blessed with his care staff who genuinely love him. His core team has been reduced to the best minimum team. All of whom have gone to extra lengths and cha4ge their out if work lives to be able to protect him. He hasn't been food shopping in months himself as it's always arrange a member of his team will stay late after hand over and go shopping or on theor to way to work. That's fantastic. But if they go to the supermarket and someine with out a mask passes in convid ( mask only stop you spreading it not catching it) They then go to spend the day with my brother...so even tho he/we have done everything to protect him, the actions of others can still affect him at home. Don't be sad for him. He has smiled every day of his life.

"Masks do not prevent you from getting the virus.. Masks prevent you (somewhat) from spreading the virus " Which is why people who are exempt should do their utmost to not mix with the general public. It's not fair on people who have no choice to be out and about, and are wearing some kind of face covering to try to stop the spread. I'm pissed off with people on buses coughing their guts up, with no care for anyone else on the bus whilst proudly displaying their exemption badge.

As I said to u b 4 although I think it's not right in these times it may b best for everone including themselves! To avoid supermarkets yes! X So you want disabled people to stay away from supermarkets! What an appalling attitude. Why are these people being asked to stay away, To make other feel better and is disgusting. No it's really not! I have a child with autism it's not to make others feel better? If u could only feel my literal pain at this moment u might understand why ? I work an 8 hr shift wearing mine with asthma which is not easy! And yes I get that alot cant wear them ! As I said home delivery is an option ? I'm not expecting peeps to starve? And of course not have to stay behind a locked door! People can go out in the open what is the attraction of supermarkets? x Because delivery is not an option for everybody and it is not the attraction of a supermarket is it is a necessity. Yes it is an option for everybody x If you can get a slot that is. Some you have to book weeks in advance. I book a weekly one. If you book early you can get some for as little as £3.50. That's not a lot considering bus fare or a taxi would be much dearer. If you have an Asda near you you can book more than one delivery at a time and to different addresses. Yes I know but this lady is talking about the co-op delivery and that is not available everywhere." Is there no other supermarket near ? I looked at my local Co-op delivery and the prices are extortionate.

"Masks do not prevent you from getting the virus.. Masks prevent you (somewhat) from spreading the virus Which is why people who are exempt should do their utmost to not mix with the general public. "I know someone who is asmatic and has been given an exemption by his GP and he openly admits that he uses it as an excuse. The mask makes no difference to his breathing, he just chooses not to wear one and has a get away with it card. " And that's wrong to take advantage like that..

I have to pull my mask up sometimes to take a deep breath in. If I get really bad I'll leave the shop, or get off the bus. Apparently, I live in the part of the UK with the highest Covid rates of infections, so I'm staying home. My local shops have no social distancing being adhered to, and a lot of people aren't wearing masks inside them. I can be careful to wash my hands and not touch my face, but I have no control over someone coughing or sneezing in my vicinity.

"To every single mask advocate here - do you do every single following step in correct order every single time you put one on? If using a disposable mask: 1. Wash/sanitize your hands before handling the mask. 2. Remove it from the original packaging. 3. Put it on by ear straps, only touch the mask to secure it in position. 4. Do not under any circumstances touch your face while wearing it (no adjusting, no scratching, no pulling down) and if you do happen to touch it - do you sanitize/wash your hands immediately? 5. Do you remove your mask by the ear straps? 6. Do you safely dispose of it in a provided recycling bin? 7. Do you wash/sanitize your hands after removing your mask? 8. Do you NEVER reuse a blue/white disposable mask? You must use a fresh mask every time you take the old one off. For reusable cloth covering: All of the above except when you take it off - Do you store it in a Ziploc bag until you can put it in a washing machine? Do you use a fresh mask when you take the old one off? If your answer is "No" to any of the questions above - congratulations you are a lot more likely to spread any diseases as well as get yourself ill than anyone who does not wear a face covering. What I've just listed isn't something that I made up. It has been published in gov.uk for many months now only hidden in the small print. " Well researched.

"The charges for delivery/ click and collect have gone up a lot in the last year, not everyone can afford it. And usual waiting time is over a week. I hate going shopping at the moment, but I'm not clinically vulnerable, so I rarely if ever get a delivery. I hope that those who are, can. I am exempt, which is not the same thing as clinically vulnerable. Can u get delivaroo in your area just a thought? I had one yesterday and they collect from co op and deliver to doorstep contactless think it was £1.50 x" I can. The supermarket charge is more than through the supermarket, and the selection is much smaller. I make the choice to go to the supermarket because I'd rather the slot go to someone who needs it more than me.

There is no two sides to this. People who have a face covering exemption are entitled to go to the local shop to buy essential items regardless of whether they can or cannot get a delivery. Neither the supermarkets or the government are saying that these people should not be able to go about their business the same as anyone else " i have bugger all storage space and just a standard freezer but i could stack a couple of loaves on top on each other in the worktop if i really thought i needed so much bread that it would need to be ordered on its own before my next shop ... not ideal but again what we want and what we need are not interchangeable ive never at any point on any thread said people exempt from mask wearing shouldn’t be allowed in the shop (i have argued for the lanyards) if there wasn’t more than one way to look at this (to look at pretty much anything) there wouldn’t be a forum discussion with differing opinions - trouble is everyone only wants to see their own side

"According to BBC news. Should the rest of retail outlets follow suit? Bout time to...its a joke..so many people who just wont play the game if they wont play the game they should be thrown out of the shop, banned and fined." What about those who cannot 'play' the game because of their disability? Shops cannot as they'd leave themselves wide open for discrimination.

"The whole mask enforcement would be so much easier in general if people who are genuinely exempt are able to use a standardised way to show this in a discrete way to store staff. A little flash card or badge as to not invade on people’s privacy and antagonise people with actual exemptions. I know for a fact when I go round shops there are definitely those who aren’t exempt but will use that as an excuse to not follow the rules."
