If we are lucky and the UK government is not as incompetent as I believe, we will reach a reasonable vaccination rate around the same time next year, hopefully containing and stopping the spread. So you may have a good hope to start swinging again in summer next year.

Post-covid normality will not be like the pre-covid normality. These things have a habit of shaping the future, the way all significant incidents do.

I think '21 is a goner, and maybe we can think of '22 as being closer to the new norm. In saying that, I think lockdown as we know it know is not sustainable for long. I think it brings problems while solving others.

The only way out as I see it is to get the population vaccinated as soon and as quickly as possible. This needs to be done 24/7. Vaccinating 60 million people isn't an easy task, but needs to be the number one government priority.

right now i am preparing myself for this lockdown to probably get stricter and be extended til maybe the end of march and just focussing on getting myself to the end of that one day at a time

i don’t have a bubble and to think about not seeing anyone longer than that is too much for me just now ... if it goes on longer i will deal with it when the time comes

hoping at that point we might get back to being allowed an occasional brunch or something or some travel even with negative with test and quarantine rules which i managed last year

but back to actual normal i daren’t even think about just now

It's going to be perceived individually, depending on lifestyle variations. Some don't ever go abroad, rarely to social venues, so they may perceive all is good much sooner than others, who travel a lot, go to concerts and have zero hours working etc.

People going to swinging clubs, swinging holidays, with an active social calendar, including pubs, hotels and more, could find normality comes slower.

I think we'll see stability in 2022

I can't see that things will return to pre covid times for some years. Now we have covid among us, it's probably going to need onward managing. That may still require social distancing and potentially annual jabs or whatever frequency they seem appropriate (depending on any variants of strains, but could be similar to the flu jab)

I heard they were hoping to have vaccinated the majority by Autumn and then will have another winter ahead to see the effectiveness I guess.

All the measures the government are taking are being driven by hospital admissions... and these are the people who are most vulnerable and who will all have been vaccinated by March. We should see hospitalisations coming down pretty rapidly after that and things being eased.

I agree but there will not be a return to the old normal. Too many people , clubs , businesses and jobs gone. The fallout from lockdowns will cause a massive recession .

They plan to immunize 9m people against Covid-19 by the end of the summer..

That's 70% of their 11 million population.

How long it will take our Government to immunize 70% of the British public?

15 months minimum... Basically after next winter.

The vaccine won't start to make a difference for 6 months at least ... Gonna be a year minimum before we get vaccine to all groups. Until then we need to distance to stop overloading the nhs for other treatments.

As many have said already its going to be 2022 before anything close to normality becomes feesable -and sadly that's probably a very best case scenario without anymore unexpected curveballs e.g. new variants, vaccine resistant or god for bid we find out the vaccine only offers protecttion for so long. If those things come to pass then we will be looking at 2023 before we are anything close to our old lives again.

There's so many factors and curveballs that will hinder the road to recovery which is sadly a very narrow path we find ourselves on.

I have friends who have pinned all there hopes on Boris previously saying we will be out of the woods and going back towards normal for March and the start of spring. Ifs the only thing keeping them going through the strain of been a key worker.

I fear the big battle has only just begun. For the sake of my own mental health I am trying to come to terms with 2021 been a complete right off.

Not normality as we know it but by spring we will have vaccinated the bulk of the population who are most likely to need hospital care. Once that has happened pressure on the NHS will simply evaporate and restrictions will be eased significantly but far from a return to normal. Infections will continue thoughout the summer but deaths will be confined to unvaccinated under 60s with numbers measured in high 10s per day rather than 1000s dropping to 10s per week by Autumn. Just so long as we don’t see a mutated strain that isn’t covered by the current vaccines, but let’s be hopeful.

Looking at the data, I think it will be a weird gradual release. Once the most vulnerable are vaccinated the death rate will drop, probably quite dramatically, the pressure on the hospitals will ease and the economic (and political) pressure will be to re-open, but I suspect it will be a gradual process. The models suggest June/July for some easing, perhaps late summer some semblance of normality, some minor issues next winter but as long as the vaccines work then Spring 2022. By then I may have forgotten what actual face to face fun feels like...

It depends on what you/we want in regard as less restrictions. Retail will open up again and schools back again by early spring. As far as hospitality opening up again 2 months after schools and retail.

Night clubs and saunas/clubs opening up again will not be until Sept 21.

As for trips abroad there could be restrictions in place for some years to come. Gradually the Government will release list of country's deamed to be safe to travel to. In my regard Australia could well be another 18 months before I get to go again. There is no desire from Australia to open back up soon.

Positive thing from this is , we know people can work from home, kids can schooled from home .

Less crowd on the streets , easier to travel if needed . Pretty much less noise pollution around .
