Does anyone know just how accurate these tests are meant to be. Asking, as the wifes colleague had one at work in the morning, and then had also got an outside one booked for the evening of the same day. Both obviously carried out by professional health care staff. One came back + and the other -. So which one do you actually go by. Common sense says go with the + to be safe. But officially, it could be - yet still being on record as a + result

Were they actually both carried out by trained healthcare staff ? People are often asked to do their own. Why did she book a second test the same day ?

Lateral flow tests aren't as accurate as PCR tests. There will always be the problem of false negative results with both unfortunately

She already had that booked, and then her work had all the kit in the same day to start in house testing. Yes, the work place has fully trained h.c staff, and id presume the outside testing place would know how to take the test

The work one was a throat and nose swab and sent away. I dont know which one was which result though

In Leeds and Manchester at the drive in test centres people have often had to take their own due to shortage of staff. I don't know about anywhere else.

This is far less likely. A false negative can come from a swab not being carried out correctly for example. A positive test has to have picked up evidence of the virus in the nose or throat

The PCR tests have the greatest levels of accuracy, when comparing the different test types that are carried out correctly. The PCR tests require processing in a lab and so are typically slower to give results than the others.

We have to assume that the government PCR tests provide 100% accuracy, even though no test has an absolute 100% accuracy level.

Daughter had a test they told her it was negative yesterday in a txt then 2 this morn they email her to say its positive! So in mean time I went to work as start at 4 in morn and she didnt find email till she woke at 8! X !!
