Some will say yes as it's been hard etc or that it's the fault of the new varient but I think like other groups in society that didn't have their _estivals etc it should have been scrapped much earlier..

My Own Little World

My personal opinion is no.

I was meant to spend Christmas in London with my family who I haven't seen since last Christmas, but we decided about a week before BJ moved London into T4 that we wouldn't go down there. My mother isn't in the best health and my youngest is still in school, wasn't worth the risk and any bad consequences would be something I would have to live with for the rest of my days.

So we had a nice quiet one at home.

Unfortunately people can't manage to put the needs of the many before their own, we'd love to play and have fun, miss fab fun, but if it stops the spread just a little its a small price to pay xx

It was a stupid mistake for him to have announced several days of interaction so far ahead, getting other nations to agree etc, before he could be certain of whether the conditions and situation would support it. He then had a limited climb down that still involved high risk to health and the NHS. Irresponsible.

People largely did their best but were led astray.

It would have been better to have aimed lower and only released if things were positive.

It's not worth it for families to know their actions caused family illness. More would have settled for less freedom and decades it really wasn't worth it

At least bt then the vaccine may have gotten further into the population.

Absolutely not. Sometimes I live being the wise prick sitting back saying I told you so. But in this case it's sick making. Everyone predicted it. Then 2 days before it was all cancelled. And some people still did it anyway, let alone the fucking ridiculous shopping behaviours in the weeks leading up to it. If we could have just kept it together for another 4 weeks.... We reap what we sow.

Sadly I fear we haven’t seen the true impact of Xmas yet, it seems inevitable we will escalate to 2k daily deaths within the next week or so.

So many trusts are at their limit now and it does mean deaths are going to rise rapidly in the coming weeks. Every day is now a pandemic record for admissions, deaths etc and we have at least 2 weeks of those figures rising with the infections already present in the population.

It’s not just Xmas though, people have been talking about January and a potential crisis since last March... sadly the fear has become a reality.

Blame Xmas, blame those who refer to wear masks, blame people determined to swing, keep their clubs open or whatever else... it’s a collective contribution. It also doesn’t really matter, we are where we are and we now have to deal with it :/

Would agree with the above and would really hope we manage to get someone/ anyone else to steer the whole thing before then .. that someone being anyone but Boris in charge ! The man is incompetent of the highest order :/

It’s not just down to Christmas people been pushing and not obeying rules for ages see fab statuses loads after meets etc.

I did think was worth the one day spent with parents as been shielding so was first time spent with em since March as I avoid due to front line work and don’t want risk stuff and before net them even did my regular lateral flow tests to check.

It’s hard just with people would stay true and not break rules or it’s just going get worse and worse

With modern technology these days, no excuses for people to have broken Christmas regulations .

Ok so obviously chatting with friends and family on video call is not even close to seeing people in person but under the circumstances it's certainly better than nothing at all.

We haven't seen our grandkids for a few weeks now one of them celebrated his 13th birthday just after Christmas and it was horrible not being able to see him.

We haven't seen our daughter and fiance either or any other family,so we understand how difficult it is.

But I have come to the conclusion that we are just going to have to suck it up and get on with it, regardless.

Having lost a family member at the end of last year and being seriously ill with covid straight after I really needed to spend precious time with my family, I can't see my lovely auntie who has terminal cancer.

But what can you do other than just do what is asked and stop complaining, we all have a story to tell .

I feel really sorry for old people on their own it must be horrendous for them and terrifying.

But after reading many comments on here there's plenty of people who couldn't give a flying fuck about the old people and they are all going to die of covid anyway, so fuck em.

( Disclaimer that's not my opinion)

Just the attitude I have read many many times on here.

Although I think reality is starting to slowly sink in for many previously sceptical people.

All I wish is good health for everyone and hopefully we can make up for this Christmas with a proper knees up Xmas 2021.

Sorry for your loss. Hope you and family ok.

We had lots worries as my mum and dad got it at beginning and mum has long covid which is horrid on top of her other things and just been for scans and tests about cancer. I’d love to been with her but know I don’t want risk her getting ill again.

I agree think a lot of idiots and sceptical ppl are realising mainly as it’s running rampant now more hear and see others or know ppl had it when before idiots would say well non my family had it.

It’s a crazy time and I’ve seen ppl recovery and too many not and it’s horrid disease hopefully vaccines will help and get us back on normal road but still going take long time.

Seeing these numbers aren't nice but it is the one time of the year when people naturally get together and for some it's more to do with not being alone. We reap what we sow I'm afraid.

Speaking for myself personally, yes it was.

I spent Christmas with my (very small) family. A very close relative is terminally ill, with only a few weeks left. So it was worth it to get to spend Christmas with her one last time.

He may but tell me. Is it Boris who is going out and spreading the virus? Or is it people? You could have God, mohammed, confucious and budda in charge but we would still have large numbers ignoring them and doing their own thing and spreading the infection. This is on us.

It is indeed on us .. assuming people can/ could be responsible and thoughtful enough to want to look after each other .. clearly that's failing .. so we need someone competent and decisive to manage the process and make the rules stick/ work .. Currently, Bojo is a country mile away from being either I should say !

It's a tricky one for me. I'd say no, not really, but... I spent Christmas with family members who I was already in a support bubble with, and we had a really nice time and it's had a huge positive effect on my mental health, which has helped carry me into this third lockdown.

I don't think it's a black and white situation, to be honest. That's just my view.
