Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has declared a “major incident” - seen previously during Grenfell Fire, London Bridge terror attack and Croydon tram crash - because of fears health services could be overwhelmed in the capital. (source: Sky News)

It certainly would be a substantial problem if Londons hospitals were to be overwhelmed and should be viewed as an urgent issue, if evidence points towards that starting to become closer to reality. It would be negligent to ignore this, as it would prevent measures being put into place to prevent it, managing it differently or mitigate its effects, wouldn't it?

I don't know the London or standard UK alert system notification process but a situation that could result in substantial numbers of people having their lives put at great risk, with the likelihood of lives lost, many other people faced with deterioration of their long-term health prospects, is a potential major incident, that would have implications for years to come.

Just as well we have spent all the time and money on setting up the nightingale hospitals and extra ventilators. Everyone thought we were too late in doing it but maybe we were just ahead of the curve

It’s scary. And I’m sure there’s lots of trusts not far behind.

"We had the same last weekend in Lincoln. "

Apparently that was because some Covid protestors had invaded the hospital!

Every local and unitary authority has a set 'Major Incident Plan''.

For NHS hospitals in the current crisis it will be bed space v patient numbers.

This is going to happen in many more Hospitals before this is over.

Oxygen supply was short + admissions were exceeding the bed space available.

Basically the NHS isnt working as intended and is trying to do what it can, many people wont get the care in time that they need. That is failure. Its horrible.

We have to learn.

The NHS have been under funded for years

There no social care coz been closed and under funded

For years the NHS has been struggling and been sold off to private companies

They always been a shortage of beds so what did we expect

Nightingale will not be used for covid patients so why not turn them into care for all those in hospital that’s got no where to go and free up the Beds...and use the student Nurse

And care staff

Let’s be a honest the government has got a great part to play in this
