I have just seen on the sky news website that the Moderna vaccine has been approved for use in the UK. Still needs -20 degrees storage but another step forward out of this dark time. It will be available in spring so please don't hold your breath.

Good News. Any new tool to get life back to normal is worth holding our breath for (for a little while at least).

Basically needs a ‘normal’ freezer as opposed to the really cold ones Pfizer needs - so easier to use and dish out

Enough for over 8 million people to have both doses and arrives in the spring - we have enough Pfizer and oxford to keep going until then

Most 'normal' freezers (domestic) go down to -18 which isn't cold enough. It needs -20. Unsuitable for the vaccine

Incorrect - between minus 15 and 25 from the CDC licensing in the US - minus 20 is just the middle of that range that’s all - a few degrees either side won’t make any difference

Incorrect. If they say - 20 then why would they allow a higher tolerance.

It is not guaranteed to be less than - 18.

Even the fridge containers I drive are at - 18. They can go lower of course. If the vaccine had a tolerance, why not publish it?

You mean publish it on an official site like this say

https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/info-by-product/moderna/index.html

Why tell someone they are wrong when your reasoning is only speculation?

They're incorrect. They don't know it but someone will argue black is red for the sake of it.

Most domestic chest freezers can operate at -25.

I think if they can store vax's down to -70 then they won't have too much trouble freezing down to -20.

I would go with trusting them to know what they are doing in the main.

Let's just be happy we have a 3rd vaccine and not bicker about the storage details. It's not like the NHS are asking to store it in your domestic freezer is it. Let's play nice chaps.

Great news. If we were still a part of the EU, ee may have had supplies even quicker.

There's still debate on the supply availability for all of them, to enable us to reach high volumes of vaccination in sufficient time for us to relax lockdown measures by spring. 2 million per week isn't achieved yet and we may be able to increase that capacity.

Have you noticed as soon as they mention 2 million doses it is always followed up with the caveat that it is supply which will stop them hitting 2 million doses a week, almost as if they know that the figure quoted is unachievable.

If we were part of the eu maybe we wouldnt be ahead of most of the world per 100,000 people vaccinated.
