Positives of lockdown

Yes this lockdown is shit we are all pissed off with being stuck at home and missing out on the social aspect of our lives. We all talk about what we have missed, what we can’t do or who we can’t do

But does anyone have any positives from being stuck in lockdown?

Mine are being better with money, it’s been tighter but now I spend smarter.

I also don’t miss the unwanted guests, you know the ones who pop in unannounced and stay well past their welcome.

Tell us yours!

I like the extra time I get to spend with my daughter, and the chance it gives me to see what actual education she is getting.

Even though I enjoy my commute, I don't mind the extra bedtime. I'm a creature of comfort, in the end.

My nan’s spare room.

Everyday in lockdown saves lives and is a day closer to the end of lockdown.

And less wildlife gets run over.

I like the slower pace of life and the time to do things I enjoy without the guilt that I 'should' be doing something else. But I am solitary creature by nature and I'm aware it must be very hard for those who need frequent social contact for their wellbeing.

No commute.

Catching up on books and dvds.

Having time to miss people and things rather than taking them for granted.

.

Saving a lot of money on the little things that add up when not wfh (only filling the tank up once a month, blowdries, no coffees, lunches out etc. Even the work wardrobe amounts to a fair bit over the year).

A greater appreciation for my friends and family - before I'd take people for granted somewhat and now I'm realising how much I enjoy their company and miss it. From the thinking of me messages to the calls, they all mean far more now.

I've realised how much I love my partners; they are both working long hours at the moment but still time to do simple things that make me smile.

I've finally had the kitchen painted after buying this place a couple of years ago, my dreams of making this place my own are finally starting to come into their own.

The quiet roads were great for running during Lockdown 1

I don’t have a commute. I’ve been able to look for a new job without any pressure of needing one.

While knowing that the mini beast is a clever so and so, I got to see it while home schooling her

Enjoying the quieter roads and empty trains on the daily commute.

Not feeling guilty for slobbing around the house.

Saving money on hobbies/fuel/eating out.

No unexpected visitors.

I have an excuse not babysit grandchildren.

Clean and tidy house as I'm here all day to do it.

Much more exercise.

Not having to find excuses not to visit people.

Just a more content way of living for me overall, despite the things I really miss.

I could agree more, probably ‘pissed off’ was a bad choice in words. Just trying to promote positivity in a very negative world of late.

That can be a challenge all on its own. I know my son has completely switched off with the whole home schooling situation.

What a difference between the lockdowns. The first was great from a commuting aspect. The last 2 seem to be like it always was prior to lockdown.

I love not being at work

I'm also a big fan of personal space - not that people in supermarkets adhere to it

It was a brilliant excuse not to have to do anything I didn't want to do over Christmas and New Year too.

I'm not really a people person so not going out doesn't bother me at all.

Exactly like my thoughts, apart from babysitting grandkids lol, not for another decade at least, I hope.

I have since received DMs for this post. Which were negative replies. Just to say I was hoping to bring some positivity to thread and not at all piss people off. If I did this somehow I do apologise. Or even better still just pass it by and don’t comment.

Leeds + Newcastle

Less demands on our time from others

More quality time with the fam that I don't get as I work away Mon to Fri

Slower pace when I am usually 100mph 24/7

Can't say I have seen any financial benefits as yet, just the things I spend on have shifted

O o O oo

The positives are not having people you don't know but who you have been introduced to in a social setting try to hug and kiss you on the cheeks...I don't mind if you know people but not from strangers, now I don't have to put up with it so a positive for me

Disclaimer I obviously miss cuddling and affection from friends and family, I just don't miss it from strangers

This so much for me too - I really don't like huggy kissers that I don't know.

Also the space invaders that are so close to you when they talk you can smell their breath

hiding from cock pics.

I have learnt to cook a lot better, I have had the time.

I'm now making much more healthy, nutritious and tasty meals. I've also learnt to bake a little, although I still have plenty to learn.

I also wasn't interested in gardening, that has changed.

I now have some lovely plants outside and quite a few house plants to. They bring me a lot of comfort at the moment.

I've learnt much more about how to tend to them.

Some days can be very difficult for me, but looking after my plants does seem to to be almost like a little spot of calm and meditation.

Same here. I'm hoping people are more aware of each others personal space when social distancing is officially gone.

I'm so happy queuing or being out walking without feeling someone inches behind me.

Don't give it a second thought.

You will always get that when you post anything positive about a situation most find negative.

I'm seen the same on serious debate sites. When people are suffering in lockdown it's tough for them to see others that aren't, or are actually enjoying the experience. It's like they feel you are making light of what for them is a dreadful thing.

Lockdown has been great for me, found a new fitness lifestyle that’s finally worked for me, finally been able to work from home, to the extent that the office has been closed forever! Saved a lot of money not having to commute every day, and completed Amazon.com and I’ve learnt new skills. 2020 was frankly a bloody good year for me here’s to more in 2021.
