Pet peeve of mine. Just watching the news, there are journalists in Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast doing their interviews and analysis. Why? It’s not necessary, it must involve travel, camera crews, sound people etc. I know the numbers are small, but you cannot say it is essential. Let’s keep the news non sensation it’s and studio based.

It's likely many of the correspondents live in the regional areas they're reporting from. E.g from the news special that was on before Boris' announcement, they interviewed some correspondents who I know work on the regional BBC programmes, such as North West Tonight. I know it's not 100% the case. I do get annoyed by correspondents going to physically interview people for trivial news stories (however happy). Virtual calls can be used to do this at the moment.

I don't think those are essential, no. I've seen one where teachers were interviewed on a mass Zoom call - mums and dads could be interviewed this way too.
