"The pubs will open and the times will be at least 11pm. There has been lots of 'expert' chat the world over agreeing that closing them - and similar - early resulted in 'unintended consequences' of people going to other people homes instead. If anyone thinks that keeping them closed over Christmas will stop people meeting they are suffering from a serious delusion of un-reality. It really is better to get a grip of the problem instead of pretending there isn't one. " Yes its pointless closing the pubs early anymore, people will do whatever they want to do now. They will socialise whether that's in a pub or a home which means we won't have a grip on this until April. | |||

As if they didn't, people would just carry on in their own merry way & meet up over Christmas like normal anyway! I do think this will be a disaster either way as it is going to be so easy to spread the virus with family get togethers through all generations at this time!  | |||

It goes below one and we come out. It’s really as simple as that and I can’t believe that adults can’t make sense of that in their heads. Sadly the virus isn’t a switch you just flick on and off, and apart from staying away from people, there’s little else that’s effective for a virus without a cure. Too many people focus on what’s “inconvenient for them” instead of staying focussed on “what’s better for at-risk others”. | |||

Maybe the schools aren't the problem many had us believe. Whilst you might be mingling with 250 colleagues, the vast majority are people at work but following social distancing, working from home, furloughed, unemployed or retired. If everyone is mixing with family and friends in households or in the pubs they increase the transmission. If a kid catches covid at school they might being it home but then there will be no further transmission to other household from that transmission. | |||

" One small flaw in your logic there, many kids are on school buses and transmitting for days before symptoms. Two of my children leave this house of 5 in the morning, get on a bus with 35 other kids, then go into a school with nearly 2000 in it. Their school alone has reported 6 cases in the last 8 days. Not all those kids are on the same bus so potentially thats around 4 buses with 35 per bus at risk, without considering the spread within a household. The government knows full well that schools and universities are a hive for spreading viruses, but aren't paying it any attention. Local papers and bulletins are awash with schools reporting new cases, but msm aren't reporting it. | |||

" I don’t know about Scotland but in England I presume that people think that it was down to education due to the fact that pubs reopened in July and the increase in cases didn’t occur until September after the return to university and schools. | |||

"6 cases in 8 days from my sons school, 18 cases from a neighbouring school, 3 cases in a nearby primary school, would all suggest that the measures in place are clearly not working. The pubs and restaurants that have spent a small fortune making their places covid compliant suffer even more. Boris announced today that up to 4000 may attend outdoor sports meetings, gyms can reopen, but you still can't get a pint unless you are having a 'substantial meal' ? So it seems that once again the hospitality sector is being punished for keeping schools open. | |||
