"It does work to bring the R down but its too early to say yet, yesterday Matt Hancock reported there are over 16,000 people in hospital with a serious illness Thats less than normal at this time of year" You are aware that that's *just* Covid cases, right? Not all the other things as well?

"It's good that early signs are that it may be working. It's such a pity that infections picked up before the lockdown have likely only just about begun to end showing in tests, due to lags in each bit of symptoms starting, getting tested and the results received. In a weeks time we should be seeing mostly infections caught during lockdown, which should be lower still. The North Wests Tiers seems to have lowered too, before we started. Wales seems to have had positive results Any good measures that reduce the hospital loads are great, whilst the R value dips. But we do have to remain rigid in our holding it at bay, as the winter is long. "

"According to king’s college professor Tim Spector the infection rate was falling before lockdown, but I’m sure others will say it’s because of lockdown. It’s amazing how a lockdown can shorten the lag factor of Covid." The reduction in cases and deaths we are seeing is a result of the tiering measures, not lockdown.

"I just followed a link from here to you tube about covid investigation committee preparing to go to court in America Canada Germany and in the time I took to watch it, the thread has gone! " Yeah, think you're only allowed to post links on here from garbage sites like daily mail. Or no links at all now. I'm not sure x

You mean the ones that Burnham was insisting weren't working and that we needed a national lockdown?

"It was to do with the world health organisation and a guy who wasn’t qualified and tests being started on his evidence without background checking him, the whole thread has gone not just the link " If a thread has been deleted it will have contravened forum rules in some way.

Because of the delay between cause and effect it is hard to know what measures are working until a couple of weeks later. We’ll only really see the real impact of this lockdown in mid-December, by which the relaxation may also be having an effect. The crude measures that we see and the way they are presented are not the best for detecting the impact of interventions.

I think that is why the Zoe app from Kings College London is the most accurate. It is collecting information in real time as opposed to the ONS data which has a two week lag. Zoe was indicating that the infection rate was dropping before lockdown and that the tiers system was working.
