It does work to bring the R down but its too early to say yet, yesterday Matt Hancock reported there are over 16,000 people in hospital with a serious illness

It may be working now, but let us all out of lockdown, people will pile into the shops, then 2 weeks later gather at friends and families houses for Christmas.

Then partying at new year.

See where we will be by mid Jan

Central

It's good that early signs are that it may be working. It's such a pity that infections picked up before the lockdown have likely only just about begun to end showing in tests, due to lags in each bit of symptoms starting, getting tested and the results received.

In a weeks time we should be seeing mostly infections caught during lockdown, which should be lower still.

The North Wests Tiers seems to have lowered too, before we started.

Wales seems to have had positive results

Any good measures that reduce the hospital loads are great, whilst the R value dips. But we do have to remain rigid in our holding it at bay, as the winter is long.

You are aware that that's *just* Covid cases, right? Not all the other things as well?

According to king’s college professor Tim Spector the infection rate was falling before lockdown, but I’m sure others will say it’s because of lockdown.

It’s amazing how a lockdown can shorten the lag factor of Covid.

Well, f me. Everyone staying at home stops this virus spreading. I'm sure that's what they have been preaching for months now. The last week or so all I've seen is Christmas this and that. Everyone can meet and partaayy for days like nothing else matters.

It's was bound to happen the last few weeks of lockdown the rate will fall, but as mentioned the shops will be rammed as will the pubs and then meet up over Christmas, January we will be back to square one. Another lockdown. I'm sick of it all. Just one very vicious circle.

I'm not a fan of lockdown at all, for personal stryfe and economic sense, but they do work to slow the virus. Maybe if everyone followed the rules we'd be OK.

The reduction in cases and deaths we are seeing is a result of the tiering measures, not lockdown.

In my area, it looks likely, given the highest Civid related figures across England, that we will go into Tier 3 soon!

Yeah, think you're only allowed to post links on here from garbage sites like daily mail.

Or no links at all now. I'm not sure x

You mean the ones that Burnham was insisting weren't working and that we needed a national lockdown?

If a thread has been deleted it will have contravened forum rules in some way.

I guess it depends on how well they were working. Because of the delay between cause and effect it is hard to know what measures are working until a couple of weeks later. We’ll only really see the real impact of this lockdown in mid-December, by which the relaxation may also be having an effect. The crude measures that we see and the way they are presented are not the best for detecting the impact of interventions.

I think that is why the Zoe app from Kings College London is the most accurate. It is collecting information in real time as opposed to the ONS data which has a two week lag.

Zoe was indicating that the infection rate was dropping before lockdown and that the tiers system was working.
