Actually, I think those that drank lots of beer, tended to stay well as they were avoiding the infected water! (At least I think I read this somewhere).

Infected water spread Typhoid not The Plague, because the water was boiled in the beer making process it was rendered safe to drink. The Bubonic Plague was spread by infected fleas carried by rats that had been brought to the UK in ships from the east. It's thought that it originated from Asian Marmots, a species of rodent that that still carry the desease to to this day.

If you watched the documentary they explained how it spread. Human fleas and body lice. Hurt the poor community far harder than the wealthy
