"Great plague? How does that compare to today? They could still go to the pub" Actually, I think those that drank lots of beer, tended to stay well as they were avoiding the infected water! (At least I think I read this somewhere).

(At least I think I read this somewhere). The great plague/Black death was actually a strain of ebola and not spread by rats " Infected water spread Typhoid not The Plague, because the water was boiled in the beer making process it was rendered safe to drink. The Bubonic Plague was spread by infected fleas carried by rats that had been brought to the UK in ships from the east. It's thought that it originated from Asian Marmots, a species of rodent that that still carry the desease to to this day.

"Great plague? How does that compare to today? They could still go to the pub" But you had to get there quick. Couple of pints, two bags of fried pigs ears, show your mate your exploding boils and drop dead...brilliant night out.
