The first case of someone suffering from Covid-19 can be traced back to 17 November, according to media reports on unpublished Chinese government data.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

I don't think even the Chinese expected this to be quite as serious as it was, by the time they did, it had already started spreading in other countries.

We in the West have never suffered before from any of the epidemics, the original SARS disappeared as quickly as it came, bird flu and swine flu were just something that made the news.

Even in January when the virus was in other far eastern countries, it was just another news story.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and maybe the lesson of this pandemic will teach us all to be a little more vigil and take note of the invisible threat that virus can be.

You need to watch the channel 5 series on the plague. You wouldn't believe how similar some of the issues are to the current outbreak i.e., relatively poor, overcrowded suffering the most and the attitudes and delays to locking down. We appear to have learnt very little. Still, more episodes to come.

I beg to differ, the Spanish Flu of 1919 killed an estimated 100 million, including many in the West, in part transmitted by soldiers returning from WWI.

I made the mistake of watching that 1970s series 'Survivors' on YouTube last week...
