"Got tested this morning,(Lpool city centre), no appointment needed, was in and out in 10 mins, negative result back within the hour "

It’s not always looked upon as a positive achievement, but considering we had a testing capacity of only 10,000 a day back in March, the ability to create a new infrastructure and scale up a system that allows in excess of 500,000 tests a day, not to mention the fantastic testing process mentioned in this post, has to be testament to the fantastic work of all the dedicated staff involved in making it work.

But what about the army in Liverpool, they blocked our road off this morning, I couldn’t drive out.

Oh no sorry my mistake, that was the bin men.

The army lads at the test centre yesterday were amazing

Interesting that it's all gone quiet on the media about Liverpool..

Could it possibly that the mass testing has on fact shown very few cases. 64000 tested 373 positive cases.

No fear mongering to report.

The numbers should be lower than people assumed they would be, as they have mass tested later than Liverpools peak, this is essentially a mop up mass test to see who's left with it

Yeah my mum and dad have done it too, albeit they have effectively been shielding since March. They were given self-tests at a drive-in and got their negative results back by the evening.

Because it doesn't fit with the narative.

You can't keep people scared and obedient by telling them that the R number is (seemingly) coming down.

PCR tests for the symptomatic people, lateral flow tests for the asymptomatic.

If people are infected they will be isolating and unable to go and get tested.

I got tested this morning in Leeds. Took 3 mins.

The Covid tests I have had previously have been throat swabs. This one was a nasal swab which was pretty unpleasant.

It's the track and trace element that is severly lacking and poor not the testing capacity.

My problem with the phrase "mass testing" is the testing "mass" will only be as good as the amount of people deciding to turn up.

This is so true. I hadn't thought of that. And neither can their housemates

Pillar 2 tests are the primary model kit for care & vulnerable settings and the nation as a whole via the Government portal

Lateral Flow tests are the primary model used for mass testing programmes

PCR tests were only used in private settings but are now being used in conjunction with Lateral Flow tests to gauge lateral flow accuracy.

To be honest if people are infected then they don't really need a test in most cases.

Don't they need a result to show their employer why they are not coming in for ten days ?

Also how would track and trace reach contacts if Positive people didn't have a test ?

You can request a postal test if you are isolating.

The point of the mass testing was that we were being told there were "thousands" of people with no symptoms who were actually infectious.

The test results from Liverpool so far don't quite reflect that.

But hey ho, my test was quick and painless and I got texted with my negative result in less than an hour.

As far as I'm aware the self cert time frame has been extended to allow people to isolate for the appropriate amount of time while still being able to abide by lockdown / isolation guidelines

If they don't get tested they won't show up in the infection rates.

Perhaps a sinister ploy to reduce infection rates so the region will be allowed out of lockdown/ higher tiers.

To be honest I've lost track of what you're meant to do right now in each scenario.

The term "infected" was used so I took that as someone being diagnosed by a GP over the phone and then isolating for the required time.

People showing symptoms were still encouraged to visit the walk-in mobile testing centres when they were open but now as I've not been involved on that side of things since early October and all the mobile testing sites have been closed down I'd presume you'd just request a home test kit now.

There are sites designed for people with symptoms, there have been all the way through since June.

Didn't realise the numbers had been this insignificant!

Where are the usual suspects on here to tell us why we should lock down forever and that we are all going to die because of peoples selfish behaviours.

Suppose its hard to justify when the stats show otherwise

Idk about the others but Liverpool is only 158 yesterday (source, council website)

Bonus covid info, just discovered the army leave on the 5th, presumably to redeployment in a worse area so that boosts my confidence in tier 2 for us (logical anyway, Boris doesn't work that way though..)

I think those figures were from the day before. I think your latest figure is probably right. Those are the ones Joe Anderson reported on Twitter, just before I posted the update.

Wexford Town

Iv had 26 tests so far here in ireland, everyone one of them negative and iv being on sites with over 1000 people on them and no one is wearing a mask properly, So in my opinion it seems stuffy and poorly ventilated areas is where this virus is.

Just a person opinion now so don't jump down my throat.
