Nothing in a vaccine kills a virus. A vaccine is a means to train your immune system to identify and kill a virus

The mRNA vaccines work on the principle of a common delivery system that can be encoded with the RNA of the target virus. You could wait for the full research evidence to be published, which will tell you so much more about it. What others have added here is helpful and it sounds like you could potentially learn a lot about vaccines and health care, if you plan your learning. It's to be empowered with knowledge, understanding how we gain the amazing health benefits that we do, due to the many years of research already done

As I understand it, Covid 19 will be the first mRNA vaccine. mRNA is a completely new method of stimulating an antibody response and they are planning on going from a 30k trial to vaccinating the world's population.

I have just read the wiki page on mRNA. I'm not against vaccinations but I think I will wait for the first few tens of million ahead of me in the queue to give it the all clear before it comes anywhere near me.

To sumarize:

As of November 2020, no mRNA vaccine, or technology platform, has ever been approved for use in humans.

Basically because they hadn't perfected it yet. Articles published a couple of years ago said the companies developing this faced years of trials for it to be proved safe enough to be licensed.

Covid 19 is truly an early Christmas present for them. If I was an investor in this technology I would have been offering the inhabitants of Wuhan a free round the world holiday in February this year.

The way it works is that they inject genetically engineered messenger rna into you body. This gets into some of your cells and instructs the cells to manufacture some of the proteins produced by the actual coronavirus. The body then produces antibodies that fight these proteins which would also fight the coronavirus.

A totally different approach to all previous vaccines. It could work brilliantly but do you want to test the first attempt on the entire population of the planet?

It's already been tested on tens of thousands of people and won't be given to billions of people without constant monitoring - and 2 mRNA vaccines are to be launched, not just 1, enhancing the levels of supervision and analysis. It's not totally brand new technology either. Other vaccine types are also likely to become available at lower price levels, so this form of vaccine development will probably not be the only type. Everyone will be free to decide whether they wish to be vaccinated, it's optional
