I need to get a private test so I can travel in early December . Has anyone got any experience or recommendations of which companies are best and what price they are ? And how long does it take to get the results back

Google is a minefield of hundreds of places offering it. But few have clear info on their sites

Does the airline requesting the test have any information? Or it the destination country requesting the test?

Some holiday companies offer links to others that do it. Heathrow has limited testing - not the PCR type that countries like Cyprus want but they give results in 1 hour.

Boots do them in store at a very small number of stores, including Birmingham, which is miles from Lincoln.

Countries usually have tight time frames for when it's done and results need to be submitted online, before they release a permit to fly there.

Boots is £120, which is reasonable and perhaps the best.

Feel free to message me, if you'd like any info. Not on commission

1 tip is to check their timings, as lab processing times are often from when the lab gets the test sample. If you have 72 hours before the flight, for example, to get the test taken and processed, as well as submit to the government overseas, really nail it down to the minute, to ensure it's sufficient.

None of them want to guarantee the result time, to make matters worse!

Ensure you get the right type of test done!

And book your test well in advance please, as you need that tightly timed slot, before the flight

if you could dm me a link to where the boots booking page is that would be fantastic. Birmingham is under 2 hours away so not a big issue. It’s the destination country requiring it not the airline . And it’s needs to be negative within 72 hours of reaching the destination. Would also need the result emailing to me in case it didn’t come back in time before I’m due to leave

Most of the services just email the result 'certificate:". I've sent you a link to the info and booking page.

You could also take a look in the fab international forum areas, as there have been some discussions in some of the country sub-forums. That may be of help

randox are a company in northern ireland that tui are offering discount for ive had a few discussions with them today

the cost of test is 120 but discount code tui2020 brings it down to £86

their labs are operating 24/7 just now so its just a case of getting the test to their lab and then your results are normally back in 12 hours can be up to 24

you have to register the date and time taking the test online, then do the test then drop off at specified dx specimen collection centre (you have to book a slot for this too with your test code) and then each day(mon-fri) at 5pm the collection centre ships everything to the irish lab by 12 next day

just ordered for tenerife for next week and will let you know how it goes

to get to the boots booking page you have to register, put in card details for test ad though buying it (payment not taken til appt) provide your passport data and then you get a link to book

i did all that then couldn't get an appointment on the date/ time i needed, some scottish stores are already booked out til early december so i would get organised early

it does then let you go back in and cancel the registration so they wont charge your card

I've got mine booked for Monday at the Whitehall Clinic in Leeds.

It was the closest I could get to Lincolnshire that was in within the 72 hour test period.

Be prepared to travel

oh and it's £160. You get the test results within twenty minutes with a fit to fly certificate if you test negative.

That doesn't sound like the PCR test, which require processing in a lab. The quicker tests, for example the new ones at Heathrow in 1 hour, aren't PCR but may be LAMP etc.

Boots offers PCR and did promote quicker tests a few weeks ago but those aren't PCR.

I took a quick look at their tests and saw £175 PCR test, 2 days turnaround. They offer other tests too. What type of test does your destination need?

Boots offers PCR tests, which is what I referred to. They are the slower tests as they require specialist lab processing.

Some countries will insist on the test being done by an appropriate professional, rather than a home test, where the identity of the person having the test is validated. I assume that the Canary Islands are fine, as long as they get a negative result?

I think the OP needs PCR too, hence the discussion. . Some destinations want to see confirmation of the date and time of the test appointment, as well as the result. I'm guessing that Randox states it's the date and time that customers state they took their own swab.

I'm arranging for family in December at the moment.

It's what I require to travel back work so it makes no difference.

yeah the website asks you to register your kit just before you take the test, i did a practice today putting in a dummy kit number and it doesn’t let you forward date the time or date which will be how they can ensure you’ve taken the test in the correct time frame

its the company TUI are recommending and offering discount for ... they have a sightly different process for Cyprus which must need results in a portal

at the moment (well from midnight) they need time of swab, date of swab, time and date of test, lab accreditation number, name, dob, negative result all shown on a certificate

and only at tourist accomodation and only if you have been out the country in the last 15 days

its hotel receptions that need to check it so i imagine there will be mass confusion tbh with them all being trained differently

from monday 22nd it will be superceded by spains new law that requires the result arriving at spanish airports for absolutely everyone , residents included
