I suppose IF the vaccine is doing well globally, it'll depend more than ever on this shitshow of a government doing a good job of actually getting it out there. If we're lagging behind we could still need another lockdownthingy before enough of the right people are safe.

the vaccine if it gets license's wont be rushed and the care homes and staff - nhs and vulnerable that will take a good few months first before even hitting the public .... i think theres a couple more lock downs yet

Jan/Feb really are the worst months every year.

But it isn't the notional idea of parties nor the fact that a vaccine really is close now that will bring us another lockdown - it's that people and people alone spread the virus.

Only you/us can say NO to the Party invite and YES to the Vaccine. We are in no rush to kill anyone else just because it's Christmas and just because a vaccine is imminent.

The very high infection levels today, due to the rush to party before last week's lockdown started, concerns me that too many will live like the problems over come December.

The vaccine news could be a green light for the uninformed and stupid, even though few would be likely to get it before early summer.

Don't expect lockdown to end on 2nd December. I know my own area will be straight into tier 3, which is basically a lockdown. The figures suggest there'll be more tier 3 areas.

I think lockdown measures will remain on and off at periods for the remaining winter months. Though the vaccine is very positive and great news I don't place too much faith in the governments ability to distribute it. Although I have been given a vaccine voucher from my work I have not been able to get a common flu vaccine so given the added constraints in administering this covid vaccine although great news I don't see our current way of life changing for a long time yet.

"What is a vaccine voucher ?"

They had them for Flu this year too. Where a jab couldn't be given at a Surgery those who were entitled to one could take it to Boots et-al.

Thanks for explaining. My GP hired a church hall and we all went there instead of to the surgery as easier to social distance.

Also. Employers can 'normally' book a group of vaccinations for employees and pre-pay. The Vouchers are given to staff.

Not sure how many employers would have been able to do this this year.

Well not all are going to be successful I guess - Plus we will need more than one in many reports - get one then another in 21 days. Then we may all need top-ups like flu.

Boris says this Christmas will be a little bit different from the past and police can break up our Christmas Dinner which is a clear hint lockdown not ending anytime soon.As for the vaccine, won't be available till next few months and only people of high risk / elderly will be considered first.Probably the vaccine will take about 12months to reach other members of the public if not politicised.

There are going to be more lockdowns but I think they'll be less and less effective each time. People aren't as scared of the virus as we were the first time round so a lockdown is seen as more of an inconvenience than a life saving measure. I know of a few people in England who haven't stopped going to their friends houses even tho it's not allowed right now.

So to have the same impact, each successive lockdown will need to be longer each time. With a vaccine on the horizon, I think people will take them less and less seriously as covid is essentially over as a threat for them.

It's a very worrying time. Yesterday's ridiculously high infection numbers will inevitably lead to higher hospitalisation and sadly deaths. Also the stupid British public, fuelled by then media frenzy as if we have a vaccine on the shelves already. As far as I've seen there isn't yet and we have been cautioned there are hurdles to go (unless I missed a story).... So dec 2nd...vaccine...1m students travelling... Xmas... Then 1m students travel back to uni... Oh and in the middle of it...eat out to help out 2...What could go wrong.? We've managed to back ourselves into quite a corner by continuing to spread the virus.

These numbers were expected though as they are the pre lockdown party infections, the numbers if people are adhering to staying home should start to go down, its the hospital admissions spike next

And that's yet more evidence of how truly stupid we are isn't it?.. We need a lock down to slow the spread down... I know... Let's have a weekend of party's before lockdown to increase the spread... So frustrating firstly how we are responding... Like the 10pm curfew... We need a curfew at 10pm to reduce alcohol related and social spreading.... I know let's all get fucking hammered and all leave the pubs at the same time... On top of that you have the government practically printing tickets as they give weeks notice of a measure which is urgent. Arggghh. Surely at some point the coin will drop that it's down to all of us to do our best to slow the spread down.

That's my guess too. Also the counties/authorities can request higher tiers than they were in pre lockdown 2 and with the steady increase in cases I reckon there will be a lot more areas in the higher tiers.

Deaths on 2nd December will be at least double that when we started lockdown. We might come out of lockdown on 2nd lockdown but most if not all the country will go into tier3++ Lifting of lockdown in name only.

Respiratory illnesses are done with by the end of December so just like May June the virus will be finished for anther year, vaccine or no vaccine.
