Apologies for quoting the Daily Fail again, just that so many other sources are behind paywalls. Also I’m well aware that “government announces” isn’t the same as “definitely happening”.

“ Government is reportedly set to buy 200million of the 15-minute result tests

Negative result would allow millions of people the freedom to socialise

Experts say this could be the key to moving away from strict lockdowns ”

It's interesting that it could open up social activities but the cautious part of me wonders if people would be too confident of being uninfected, around people who were definitely the same. Some wouldn't be the same, as the tests would miss new infections etc.

Think it depends what it means in practice, if it’s catching 90% plus of “infectious” cases as suggested then that sounds a pretty good number to be confident that it’s effective and worth doing.

Didn't they run that story in June or July ? Imminent was the word they used ?

Expecting this government to get something right regarding anything is unrealistic imo.

I'm not sure it would work as if I have a negative test on Monday then come into contact with someone with it in the next couple of days I could catch it possibly be asymptomatic and pass it on over the next few days. To be effective you would need a test every day or be reliant on everyone being tested and honest about results

It would be great for shielding family. My parents are elderly and would be far more comfortable with visitors knowing we'd be checked out first

I think the thrust of it is more if you’re going on a night out, for example to watch the snooker, you’ll be known to be reasonably safe with the rest of that crowd that night.

Yes you might then catch it on the bus on the way home, but you’ve been able to watch the snooker.

If they want to drink alcohol, the bus is a responsible transport option.

Otherwise, who wouldn't want to stop themselves spreading an infection to others? Especially when that infection could cause deaths.

I guess you must get your car MOTed every day then because right after you get it checked it could develop a fault and kill you in a terrible accident.

And I shall carry on doing that unless other good sources are available for free.

Apart from going to the snooker on a night out, yes it’s the sort of test that would be perfect to take prior to visiting relatives.
