Could there be a time when life insurance companies will refuse cover for Covid related deaths for new policies if the insured has refused a vaccine ? Or apply excesses or inflated premiums like for smokers ?

How would that work?

Having had covid and not being dead, suffering any side effects and having the same protection that this potential vaccine gives, means I get penalised for not being stabbed ....

Knowing how insurance companies like to squeeze people for all they are worth.

Then yes.

Unfortunately there's no substantial evidence that having had the virus offers the same level of protection as the vaccine. There's also no evidence that the vaccine won't need regular boosters 1,5 or 10 years like some other vaccines

Central

They already have conditions and limitations, so I'd expect that they'll exclude more things in future

Actually I may suggest that the factually correct statement would be

No potential vaccine has substantial evidence it can offer the same protection as having had the virus

And as I understand it there is little data indicating how much protection one had after having the virus

So in essence just not much data period

If having Covid has caused scarring of the lungs if could cause death at a younger age.

That would be grounds for a higher premium along with people who have had cancer or heart problems.

I can't get life insurance anyway, so having had Covid etc isn't going to make much difference

We just hope it's not me who croaks it prematurely and leaves the other in the lurch. S has life insurance, so that's all good. Relying on the "death in service" thingy if I KO.

We have recently applied for life insurance, both companies had a section relating to covid 19.

You may indeed but it's essentially the same question.

No as vaccination isn’t mandatory

"No as vaccination isn’t mandatory "

That is irrelevant to the insurance industry. I have medical conditions that have zero impact on my life expectancy, they cause physical pain and disability but absolutely no chance of them killing me. I don't smoke or drink, yet I can't get life insurance at all. Insurers will make whatever they want a compulsory part of the acceptance process and will increase premiums or decline cover based on Covid if they see fit.
