Yeah I agree that's a risk but I'd be hopeful there's enough sane people who will get it and added to that the little bit of heard immunity that's already built up naturally plus the other vacancies that will come on the market next year should be enough to get us over the line........... What I'm concerned about is the mutations (possibly already haopened in mink) that might cause a whole new pandemic

" Yeah I agree that's a risk but I'd be hopeful there's enough sane people who will get it and added to that the little bit of heard immunity that's already built up naturally" I think it would be more sane for us to protect our most vulnerable and work on building that herd immunity so that we could all have something of our lives back without wrecking our society and destroying businesses and tossing people onto the scrapheap. If we are facing constant viral mutations then no vaccine will accommodate for those possibilities until years ahead.

I'm not against vaccinations and I'm certainly not against the experts, but I don't feel comfortable with getting a vaccine that will have been produced and put on the market within a year. "Without longitudinal studies of those involved in the trials to date, any adverse side effects will remain an unknown for quite some time. I want to read some peer-reviewed literature of the trials, not just from Pfizer but from the other pharma companies as they release their products for licencing before making any decision. I won't have to rush, NI will likely only get doses for c. 250k people & that's only if UK gov get the 20m people's worth of doses of the first run of 30m being produced. Chances of me being eligible for early vaccination are very low. Biomedical reporting in the media is often inaccurate & misleading so I'll take most of what I've heard on the news with a pinch of salt. Especially given the novel nature of this type of vaccine - gene manipulation in plants is one thing, in people I get twitchy. Although that could well be because of a steady diet of sci-fi horror since my teens making me biased, rather than any rational reason. I want this to work & be the silver bullet we need, even if it's like flu & we have to get topped up every year with a prediction for what strain is around. But this feels too rushed TLDR - in principle yes but don't know, need more info" Amen to this

"Many are saying it is too rushed. But what are people basing this on? Is the duration of vaccine development considered general knowledge? I wouldnt have a clue. I do know that they develop a new flu vaccine annually... so I'd have though it can realistically be done in a year, and sped to some extent with extra resources. Anyway, I'm assuming the US and UK will get the first helpings, so we wont have to worry about being guinea pigs." I'm no expert on this... but I've listened to the opinions of several experts today, and the consensus is that this vaccine has undergone exactly the same testing as other vaccines do, but that the timescales was accelerated due to the crisis. That is to say that all the same necessary tasks were done, but money and manpower was thrown at the task in order to complete as early as possible. They did the same stuff as normal in a shorter time.

" Have you heard of thalidomide? " Was just discussing that with my friend in the "area". I would always use that as devil's advocate as reason to tread carefully with new therapy. My thoughts are that Thalidomide is such a strange molocule comparatively. it messed up because some of the molecules made were turned another way. Pfizers vaccine would be a envalope of a virus and nothing more. The most and of course it would be bad but an auto immune reaction. But just far less potential for bad things. 40000 would be a great sample size. Also avoid many media's terrible reviews of stuff that spread fear. Like when they reported a vaccine trial being paused because a guy died. He was part of the placebo group. You can see how misinformation can spread this way.

"100%. Also cruising this thread to populate the block list Can I ask why? Just out of curiosity. I mean if you have the vaccine/ inmune why you need to be worried. " Have nothing against people with genuine concerns, and obviously we'd be looking for evidence of robust testing prior to getting any vaccination. However, conspiranauts and anti-vaxxers are, quite simply, fucking idiots and we will have nothing to do with them

"I don't think it's going to be your choice to get it but maybe your choice to refuse it, it'll be a criteria list, over 80s and heath care workers firdt, then the over 70s,then the over 60s etc so by the time it reaches your group we might well have reached the 70% heard immunity Trouble is, if everyone expects others to provide them with herd immunity, it doesn't happen. Plus it's not anticipated that it will provide lifetime immunity.. Yeah I agree that's a risk but I'd be hopeful there's enough sane people who will get it and added to that the little bit of heard immunity that's already built up naturally plus the other vacancies that will come on the market next year should be enough to get us over the line........... What I'm concerned about is the mutations (possibly already haopened in mink) that might cause a whole new pandemic imagine living in a world where you're constantly living a lockdown life of some capacity. it actually doesnt bear thinking about." That's reality for millions living in refugee camps.

" ...I, like all other people in the world, have no immunity to anything (not just coronavirus) until my body comes in contact with it, immune system attacks it and builds an immune response. We get sick. We get better. It’s been that way for 1000s of years and we’re still here. We humans are a pretty resilient bunch. Science and medical intervention should be preserved and protected then prioritized for those in society with low functioning immune systems. And you’re absolutely right: it will be with us now and continue to spread until everyone has an immuno response. The sooner we get that, the better.

The question was would you take it, to which you answered nope, that's not quite "I'll wait and let those who need the vaccine most get it, but once it's widely available I'll be a responsible member of society and get it so that I'm not risking the lives of others by contracting the virus and spreading it to others" now is it..

Have nothing against people with genuine concerns, and obviously we'd be looking for evidence of robust testing prior to getting any vaccination. However, conspiranauts and anti-vaxxers are, quite simply, fucking idiots and we will have nothing to do with them" The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, passed in 1986, was intended to bolster vaccine research and development through the federal coordination of vaccine initiatives and to provide relief to vaccine manufacturers facing FINACIAL BURDENS!. The legislation also intended to address concerns about the safety of vaccines by instituting a COMPENSATION PROGRAM!, setting up a passive surveillance system for vaccine adverse events. A key component of the legislation required the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to collaborate with the Institute of Medicine to assess concerns about the safety of vaccines and potential adverse events, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN!!. Adverse Effects of Vaccines reviews the epidemiological, clinical, and biological evidence regarding adverse health events associated with specific vaccines covered by the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), including the varicella zoster vaccine, influenza vaccines, the hepatitis B vaccine, and the human papillomavirus vaccine, among others. For each possible adverse event, the report reviews peer-reviewed primary studies, summarizes their findings, and evaluates the epidemiological, clinical, and biological evidence. It finds that while no vaccine is 100 percent safe, very few adverse events are shown to be caused by vaccines. So the "few" are the ones you call fucking idiots antivaxers conspiranauts. People like you is happy to sacrifice in every way possible the minorities as if they were not important. Maybe the majority of the population will accept the vaccine with few or no side effects. But who cares about those who will get severe effects and even die, they are the fucking idiots right? but thats ok because the rest of the world will be safe. I’m saying that anyone who doesn’t respect someone else’s opinion and belief is a fool. They may not agree with it, but consistently trying to shove your beliefs down someone else’s throat and attacking other people because they don’t agree with you is probably foolish at best and spitefully toxic at worst. Whether people get the vaccine - or want it - is up to them, as is when they choose to get it if they do. Demonizing people for different beliefs is not cool..

" Have you heard of thalidomide? Was just discussing that with my friend in the "area". You can see how misinformation can spread this way." Thalidomide, that was in the 60's, over 50 years ago, it was also not a vaccine and it is still being used today to treat skin conditions and cancers. Medical science has taken exponential advances in that tine. All medications have the potential to have serious side effects, albeit in rare circumstances. I find it weird that people are so anti vaccine, yet engage in risky behaviours that are known, beyond responsible doubt, to have serious consequences, smoking, drinking, poor diet etc.

"I am not averse to vaccines but I would like to see this tested in the long-term before going near it. It is after all, an experimental vaccine using gene-modifying methods that have never been used on people before. I am guessing that it will be increasingly difficult to participate fully in society if you don't get it at some stage tho." This !

Thank you so much for that contribution, speaking from my heart. And to add, the US government has put in place liability immunity for those manufacturing, distributing and administering any medical countermeasures for Covid 19, published on the federal gov website, published mid March, but came into effect the beginning of February, only days after the WHO called a global crisis. Now I have to admit I know nothing about this kind of policy making but would make me very wary of due diligence during clinical trials, and given the power of the pharmaceutical industry, the fact that meds are always needed, a little negligence along the way to make big bucks where you can't be held accountable is seriously questionable! It looks very much like Europe is going to follow suit, certainly in parts...so any of those taking the vaccine who will suffer medium or long term effects, don't be looking for compensation because it's a long and difficult process. Only last week was a settlement for narcolepsy in a child associated with the swine flu vaccine with no admission of liability in Ireland. A vaccine researched, manufactured and put to market in well under a year! So, given the short space of time to research and find mid and long term side effects, I say, no thank you at this point in time. And where the Astra Zeneca vaccine is concerned, one of the stages of clinical trials showed a temporary (they didn't specify the length of time) decrease in white blood cell count, also known as neutropenia, which would leave some susceptible to other infection during that time. Given that the vaccine will initially be rolled out to the elderly and immuno suppressed, again, I would have concerns. This can be readily researched on the internet, by the way, with reputable sources.

I'm not anti vaccine at all and I don't smoke, drink or have a poor diet. I have no doubt that it will be at least a year before I am offered any vaccine and my only issue is that we are expected to accept it as a "safe" option even though we are all aware of accelerated research, trials and production. Yes thalidomide is still used now but try telling those thousands of parents that it's perfectly fine and they'd just put the wrong label on the bottle back then. I suffer long term health issues as a direct result of misinformation given 16 years ago in regards to meds that are used in this country every single day and are without doubt beneficial. It's not life threatening but it involves daily monitoring and awareness and is more of an annoyance than anything else but that's how easily people's lives can be changed if they're not given the correct information.

"No I don't get the flu why would I need this one." "I'm fortunate enough not to have contracted any of the Orthomyxoviridae (flu), so I don't need protection against a corona virus (Covid-19)" It's a bit like saying I'm not allergic to dogs so I can't be allergic to cats. (Or that I'm not allergic to dogs, so I shouldn't be careful about cat allergies including when they hurt other people)

"Given the anaphylactic reaction I had when I had the flu jab, I would be very unlikely to agree to having a covid vaccine unless it was being administered in a hospital setting where I could be given emergency treatment if needed" Are you allergic to eggs?

"We'd both happily have it, but it's unlikely to be offered to under 50's " I suspect it will be eventually. When it is I will. I'll wait, I realise my need isn't as high as some others.

I've got severe vaccine reaction in my immediate family. I've never had a problem, but I'll definitely be asking.

Nope. Keep chickens in the garden and eat loads when they aren’t freeloading
