"Totally agree it is a waste of time. We get tested weekly at work but usually put in 3 or 4 12hr shifts with the elderly before we get our results back." Do you work in a private home?

"Covid19 testing only proves you did not have the virus on the day you were tested. Much like your cars MOT. So is it worth doing? I was tested on Thursday, but by the time I received my negative result on Friday, I could have caught it." Oh dear ...

"I actually didn't have any symptoms, I just said I did to get a test." Its people like you who are abusing the system that stops front line workers getting tested, you should be ashamed of yourself but some how I doubt it.

Just when I think I have read all the idiotic post's on along comes something that makes me sad for the future of humanity. OP you should be charged the costs of the test in my opinion.

I have no symptoms but was instructed to take a test before they would admit to the hospital for my heart treatment" As always there are exceptions to the rule however, in this case, the OP stated clearly that he just said he had symptoms so he could get a test. Currently there isn't the capacity for mass testing of the asymptomatic

Its the people without symptoms silently spreading that could be causing a bigger problem. They wanted testing, there needs to be capacity for everyone. If everyone had symptoms then they would have to find the tests.

"I wanted testing because I am 64, I'm an Asthma sufferer and the place I work is not great for social distancing." So why did you get tested if it's a waste of time you are contradicting yourself here. Testing does have benefits as it's been said it makes the difference if you can go to work or not if you have been tested or come into contact with someone who has tested positive you need to isolate.

"Covid19 testing only proves you did not have the virus on the day you were tested. Much like your cars MOT. So is it worth doing? I was tested on Thursday, but by the time I received my negative result on Friday, I could have caught it." I'm struggling to see your logic here. You don't believe the test has any merit, but you lied in order to get a test. Am I reading your comments correctly? E

"Totally agree it is a waste of time. We get tested weekly at work but usually put in 3 or 4 12hr shifts with the elderly before we get our results back." but if you test positive then you will be sent home for what 10/14 days meaning you will not do another 6-8 maybe more additional shifts to get the positive benefit of testing there has to be unnecessary tests taken thats just the way it is but still better done than not

"Yes it’s a waste of time and resources to get a test if you have no symptoms Agreed... I have no symptoms but was instructed to take a test before they would admit to the hospital for my heart treatment" For a very good reason, same as anyone being admitted to a frontline hospital... we don’t want to be trying to sort out your heart but then X amount of days later be fighting to keep you alive in ICU. Likewise we don’t want you bringing in the virus and creating a little pocket of infectious matter somewhere on a ward where non covid patients and staff are present.

Sorry if it's been said already but a positive test alerts others who've been in contact with you to self isolate, assuming the system works.

" No. Because a negative test might mean you and your family could stop isolating if any of you had symptoms which led you to believe you might have covid, and therefore could return to work/school Regardless, you wouldn't know unless you took the test, ergo how is testing pointless? I'm really unsure why that is so difficult to understand

Maybe the nanny state does have a lot to answer for by trying to make everyone's decisions for them. It's take away the ability to use their grey matter. E
