"Pig farmers catch zoonoses from their livestock, cattle can give you TB etc etc. Animals have infected humans for centuries, the only way to stop it is to go vegan" Nope going vegan does not stop zoonoses. It might reduce the risk a little but having a healthy balanced diet that includes sufficient meat and dairy is key in maintaining a healthy immune system.

Never going to happen." It's a wake up call for humans to stop their intrusion into natural domains where wildlife thrives, especially those that are known to sustain viruses that people have no resistance to. This virus highlighted how we have ravaged natural ecosystems and kept wildlife and other animals in inhumane conditions, that have higher likelihood of causing them ill health. The horseshoe bat populations that this originated from represent a reservoir of viruses that just need human proximity in order to take hold of us.

But we also need to do research and development on preventatives. Imagine if we'd been prepared for this...
