For those who are intersted - not for mask deniers ...

The consumer group 'Which' carried out lab testing of a range of reusable masks. While some were able to block more than 99% of potentially harmful bacteria from penetrating the mask's material, the worst allowed 93% of these particles to escape.

Google 'sky news masks lab test' for an article on the testing.

We've just bought the best buy recommendation, NEQI from Boots, 3 for £15.

For ‘non clinical’ wear... any of the blue outer faced surgical masks are excellent, my advice get those that tie on, not elastic and ensure you mould the mask over the bridge of your nose. Bin them after use and wash your hands throughly. They give you as much protection as you can achieve really.

Be a little careful of % ratings and lab tests, they fail to factor in human mistakes...

The N95 we use for instance is 99% proof in a clinical setting under lab conditions, in practice it actually offers 92% due to fitting errors, movement in the face etc

In my job a respirator mask is essential. I use the type that give a tight seal around the nose and mouth so that you cannot breathe anything in like particles.

Being a tight seal there is an exhaust so that when you breathe out the expelled air can escape as can anything else you may be expelling.

I have seen people out wearing this type of mask which of course is not going to stop you from spreading the virus if you have it. (You are unaware you have it).

People are obviously still buying these as its still difficult at times to get them as they are often sold out.

N95 masks are so called because they are a U.S. standard that requires masks to be able to filter out at least 95% of very small particles, including droplets containing the coronavirus.

The N bit stands for, Not for oil. So I take it that it is not good when used with atmosphere that contains oil, as is some spray paints.

The GSR is even better...

But, big point, none of them are disposable so pretty useless in this circumstance. Unless you have a cupboard full and change them every time you go out. Or have another cupboard full of Fullers Earth...!

for the mask believers - a mask will only stop some droplets coughed. If you have symptoms you should not be going to a shop anyway.

if you have no symptoms the only method of transmission is aerosol, & a mask wont stop that.

Also add that the Government, WHO, SAGE, PHE still all state there is little circumstantial evidence wearing a mask has any effect on transmission - they still seek to fine people not wearing them. surely if taken to court that would be thrown out through lack of proof.

If your exempt (and you dont need a certificate or proof) you dont have to wear one. the shopkeeper may ask you to leave, but unlikely, as they need the business.

As always, I recommend you dont take my word for it or anyone else, but do your own research & make your own decision.

unfortunately when you exhale, its not filtered, so if you had it, your passing it on to others (which is the supposed reason to wear a face covering)

if you dont believe me, inhale a vape, put the mask on & exhale.... watch the vape go!

the bacteria is whats exhaled, along with the moisture, your face covering catches this & works like a petri dish for the bacteria to grow.

If your visiting a shop for 10 mins, its not a problem, wearing for an hour or two is.

Also if you put an oxygen sensor between your mouth & face covering, you'll find oxygen levels drop dangerously low. Again, for short periods, that is not an issue but when talking hours it is.

Add to this the fact the WHO, PHE, SAGE et all, advise STILL there's very little circumstantial evidence to say a mask helps minimise spread if not showing symptoms, it makes you wonder why they force people to wear them & attempt to fine people.

please dont believe me, your friends or the Government - do your own research & come to your own conclusions.

"...it makes you wonder why they force people to wear (masks) & attempt to fine people. please dont believe me, your friends or the Government - do your own research & come to your own conclusions."

Did own research:

WHO: "Masks are a key measure to suppress transmission and save lives"

CDC: "CDC recommends that people wear masks in public settings"

etc etc...

The question is, if wearing a face mask might help reduce the spread of the virus, why wouldn't you do it?

Which bit of this load of rubbish would you like debunking first? It's a virus not a bacteria, a facemask doesn't act like a Petri dish, masks do not in any way cause your oxygen sats to drop in any measurable way, neither do they cause CO2 levels to increase. Following this, I will take your advice and absolutely will not be believing you.

People like you need locking up, you haven't the faintest notion what a real mask does or how they work! masks like 3M 6300 6800 or 7000 will not allow you to infect anyone or them infect you, They are whats worn in infectious disease situations.

The virus is one micron in size.

The best masks in the world have a pore size (that's the holes in the fabric ) of three microns.

Which is the biggest three microns or one micron?

You decide.

I suggest you read what I wrote before advising me about my research.

The virus is able to pass through the mask pores as moisture is present in the fabric.

But you're obviously a leading microbiologist.

In one sentence its clear your a moron, single virus particles do not travel around, they are contained in clumps in water vapour particles, a person has to have a viral load to become infected.

Is that why surgeons collapse during complex operations?

There's actually some footage of a doctor using an oxygen sensor and putting a mask on - negligible difference.

They then put another mask on over the top of the first - still negligible difference.

interested to know what job you do

I transport covid-19 patients for testing, pick them up from their homes, take them to be tested then return them home or take direct to hospital (if O2 levels low)

I wear the normal medical type mask, which is supplied as part of our PPE, our vehicles are fitted out that the front drivers cab is totally isolated from the passenger compartment in rear but not air tight,

we also fully clean, decontaminate the vehicle after each patient

again the normal medical face mask works for us.
