Denmark plans to cull up to 17 million mink, the country’s entire population, after reports that the animals could pass a coronavirus mutation to humans. The announcement came from Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at a press conference, and there are currently no published scientific reports on the mutation or its effects.

Just seen the same article. Their prime minister saying it is very very serious and can have devastating consequences worldwide. Interesting that most of its exports go to China and Hong Kong.

It's awful if they have to kill the animals but I'm assuming that they are not native animals and pose a major threat to lives and health.

I'd expect that they could justify such an extreme measure with evidence though

They are the farmed American mink and not the native European ones.

They are destined to be killed at some point (whether you agree or not, the ethics of fur farming are not under debate) so it is what it is. If there has been an identified risk of mink carrying a strain of covid, it would seem the correct course of action.

Similarly, Avian flu has been found at a chicken breeders in Cheshire, several thousand birds are due to killed to prevent its spread, although the particular strain of avian flu is of no risk to humans, just birds.

Just love how the models posed nide to protest at using animals for furr and now they are still farmed wjwn faux furr is so realistic especiay in a butt plugged tail on a naked woman I remember the devistation to wild life when the animal rights idiots released mink before

Mette Frederiksen said a report from a government agency that maps the coronavirus in Denmark has shown a mutation in the virus found in 12 people in the northern part of the country who got infected by minks. Health Minister Magnus Heunicke said half the 783 human COVID-19 cases in northern Denmark ”are related” to mink.

“It is very, very serious,” Frederiksen said. “Thus, the mutated virus in minks can have devastating consequences worldwide.”

Denmark’s minister for food, Mogens Jensen, said 207 farms were now infected, up from 41 last month, and the disease has spread to all of the western peninsula of Jutland.

Seems like its nothing new. Thousands of farmed mink culled in US earlier in the year after contracting COVID from humans. Millions of dead animals will be a very sad loss but will hopefully lead to the farms going out of business.

Mink undergoes culls in this country and have been in other countries for years as they can over run an area and cause huge problems within the natural world. Some of the UK contracts were offered by the RSPB due to the impact on the birdlife.

I wonder if the models know that mink oil is used in cosmetics, so they could be wearing mink without knowing it.

What's extremely worrying is that back in April several animals were notes to be susceptible to coronavirus

These included mink, ferrets and cats

I know a few people that have become infected and they swear they were not in contact with others ... They all have pets
