What’s Boris’s profile name? I’d like to have a word with him.

" does anyone know how any of the trials are going"

Have you thought of looking online?

I hear Google is quite good for sniffing out websites that have the most probably complicated information you are looking for

" does anyone know how any of the trials are going"

Take a look on YouTube for either Professor Tim Spector of Kings College or Dr John Campbell.

They both give no nonsense updates based upon hard evidence, Dr John Campbell in particular does a great job of putting the complex details of recent discoveries and news into easy to understand, no jargon, detail.

Professor Tim Spector has worked tirelessly from the onset and has been at the forefront of understanding the virus, the information his team pull together is used by the NHS and you would have seen also used by the Government on the TV Coronavirus briefings.

The trials are still underway and whilst some basic information may get out, the results have to be put through rigorous analysis. As double blind trials are held, the specifics of which volunteers got the vaccine or placebo, remain unknown for good reason, so that trial results are trustworthy and accurate.

Once the results are known, they then need rigorous peer review, not to mention government analysis and approval.

The positives are that it doesn't appear to cause high levels of deaths in the short-term but that's a small aspect of safety evaluation.

A preliminary statement on the Oxford vaccine said that all age groups appeared to show benefit but this was not peer reviewed and so unreliable.

Searching for credible data is your best option

I think the government must have put Tim Spector on mute then because his findings are the exact opposite to Valance and Whitty.

His latest has shown that the R rate is lower than that recently quoted.

It seemed that Saturdays briefing was the "what if" projections which were based upon older data. There was nothing wrong with the data shown and predictions will never be 100% correct, which is why different predictions were shown side by side and the difference between them highlighted. What they showed were similar trends and that there is an impending problem that needs to be addressed to prevent the NHS being rapidly overwhelmed.

The hospitals are trying to continue as normal while also dealing with a huge influx of covid patients, should they become overwhelmed and the nightingale hospitals come into play, those doctors, nurses, surgeons, etc, not currently dealing with covid patients will be taken off their day to day roles to work the nightingales.

This is the situation they are attempting to avoid.

The trials are going as well as you'd expect for any clinical trials i.e. generate data of safety and efficacy. However, by their very nature, trials are limited and we will know much more about a particular vaccine once it is approved and used in the general population.

One issue with the Covid vaccines is that they come in so many flavours. The trials are not going to give you side by side comparison and it will take some time before we understand which are the best and which are the worst. It's likely though that they will all be safe and provide some degree of immunity.
