Mental Health to the Forefront

With the second lockdown approaching in England, together with the isolation, depression, money worries and job security fears it causes, mental health awareness once again comes to the forefront. With this in mind, is it really appropriate for site members to have the word 'mental' in their usernames? Should the flippant use of this word now be consigned to history, following the fate of certain words from the 1970s and 80s? Let's avoid the kneejerk "snowflake" and "political correctness gone mad" comments. Let's have a grown up discussion about this.

Perhaps they are using the word to highlight mental health and show their support for people who may be struggling at this time.

The word mental does not only refer to health. It is used quite legitimately in conjunction with words like arithmetic = mental arithmetic. So, no, you can't just ban it. If we're going down that route, we should ban a lot of potential usernames that some people might find offensive.......

People use all kinds of inappropriate words ..... retard is really offensive but people use it. Mental is just a word to describe that it happens in the brain. You have good mental health and bad mental health.

Words are so powerful, be careful how you use them.

I think intent is the important thing

I think we're going to need two dictionaries soon. One for words we are allowed to use, and one for "banned" words. Why would anyone want to give up even one word. Free speach must be protected
