Entire city to be tested by the army apparently (if you want one)

Going to be rolled out if successful.

"Why"

Mass testing will identify asymptomatic, if all who are tested positive then isolate the ones who are negative can crack on..

It removes a lot of the virus from the local community..

On another note, it would be fantastic if those testing negative could go to the gym! lol Yes, yes, I know, the test is only good on the day it was taken, but a gal can dream lol

and hopefully give a clearer picture of who actually has it and maybe from where, although that depends on when they actually do the testing.

Dream.... imagine if they tested a whole town, answers back that day, you have it you isolate and those you live with, could we make a town covid free ? If so, one town or more at a time and everyone stays within their town boundaries

My thoughts anyway

"Entire city to be tested by the army apparently (if you want one)

With the huge numbers of people now being tested, (up to 500k per day) shouldn't there be an intelligent way of bringing a more normal social experience for some people? Shouldn't we be making more use of the 250k people a day who are testing negative?

I mean for people who have already had it... Well they can socialise and work as they aren't infectious after 28 days. And for people who have tested negative... They can socialise and work because they are negative.

Aren't we now getting to a big enough number of people that for some, they should be allowed "out"? Obviously they will need some kind of identification... An app on their phone or something... But locking down 1m (or however many the number is) people who are now safe for 3 months seems unnecessarily clumsy. Surely the boffins can come up with something a bit more nuanced with the limitless resources they have had than ... Lock everybody down.

Central

I think they're using a range of test types, including some without approval yet, so I read and that aren't as accurate as the PCR tests.

I'm guessing that the 15 minutes tests that are positive may need a PCR test afterwards to confirm it.

There's discussion too of reducing isolation to 1 week, from 2. Perhaps travellers arriving will get the same.

If they test the whole country think they may find a lot more people test possitive or may already have had it.

I work in Liverpool and think this is great news. However to back this up there needs to be effective monitoring of people who are isolating to ensure that they aren’t meeting with others. I know of a number of cases where people have gone round to see people who are T&T self isolating but have had friends round, they then develop symptoms and have passed it onto their visitors.

It would be better to antibody test everyone at the same time as testing and get a better number of who has had it

Isn't that why some people are deliberately trying to get infected? Supposed immunity.

Won't work properly as it's not mandatory to be tested. People will be offered it. So I'm betting the hundreds who didn't/dont care about it (like when the football was celebrated) won't get tested and will carry on as normal. Therfore won't be a complete success. Will be the same if any city or town they go to test. If you don't have to be tested people won't do it.

That's a bit silly, the likes of someone I know lives half a mile from a supermarket that he uses that is in Liverpool but he lives in Sefton

There is a street in Liverpool council that the other half is Knowsley which wouldn't be tested

There are issues;

False negatives.

Will all tests be instant results?

For those which are PCR based, what's the lab turn around time?

How quickly will the person be notified about their test results.

How effective is track and trace going to be for contact tracing?

Until you have sampled an entire post code, you cannot really say what proportion of the population is negative or positive.

You'll also have to restrict movement between Council Districts as much as possible.

All in all, this will help us get results, band a better picture in the community, but normal socialising isn't going to be a thing till case numbers drop off.

Testing is great not a problem with it we can and need to test even more people but that's not the real issue.

We can test millions of people but its what happens with the people testing positive. Yes they should isolate they should be off work but in reality people don't want the inconvenience expecialy if they are asymptomatic and ignore the rules.

My road runs through the Liverpool city boundary also.

Staff in Liverpool city centre were told anyone coming into town (Liverpool city centre) can go for any of the tests, although I did wonder about giving blood outside St John's I

My G.P is also in Liverpool itself, I'm kinda wishing I'd booked my blood donation in the city centre now, I booked it next week but at Aintree.

Be interesting to see squadies in the city.

Friday we should know some more

The army are extremely good at logistics - we've had them in Leicestershire for some time doing emergency PPE and food parcels and my understanding is that it's all gone very smoothly.
