Fab status

I can't believe how many people are using their Fab status to advertise for local meets.

Could everyone take this lockdown seriously please? It really does affect the vulnerable and healthy alike. We are talking about lives and the ability of our NHS to cope. Do people really care care about others so little?

Perhaps Fab needs to disable the status function for a few weeks? I know this is inconveniencing the many for the few who abuse it. But perhaps somethings are more important ...

Stay safe everyone.

Already this morning we have had several emails from people asking if we want to meet “before lockdown”

That displays such a level of ignorance over safety that we would question their approach to STDs etc too. Idiots!

There's many reasons folks hide their profile..

Have noticed some have hidden their verifications this last few months..

If when they open them they have veris from this time i can see a whole new group of those who met and thought it clever to verify each other..

We highlighted this months ago. We were obviously shot down and told to not worry about what others are doing; the stock Fab forum response.

That's a shame. Worth raising again now though. The impact of an unchecked second wave is hugely greater than the first wave. If Fab has shut down the 'meets' section because of Covid-19 it doesn't make much sense to allow the status to do the same job.

I can see it being a tricky one for them, if they lose revenue in booting some off that's an issue and in all likelihood those arranging to meet will communicate via other means and still meet etc..

Putting a status up doesn’t have to be about meets, many of us put one up just as part of normal forum interaction.

Just use the block button for those who offend you.

I understand that but it wasn't the point I was making. Also, it's not about being offended but rather discouraging irresponsible behaviour when lives are at risk. Well, perhaps that is something we should all be offended about?

On a mooch

Yes some are misusing the function and ad striding for meets.

However, I wouldn’t wish it to go completely as some use it, inadvertently, to say they need help someone to talk to as got so low in their morale.

Plenty are doing the opposite and have anti meet messages in their status... as we go into lockdown now is the time to take social distancing seriously.

We only have a national lockdown because not all people take the virus seriously and take risks that affect the lives of others and the ability of the NHS to cope.

If only it was different then we could cope with these things without the same level of disruption. But selfishness is part of the human psyche so we can expect more of this in future.

Fab just need to block the word meet. Just like using the word fake in your status update gets it removed, if you use the word meet it should do the same. Sensible ppl can still use the status update function then.

Well not really, that logic is backwards. People seem to talk like something is going to be different about the virus because of lock down. It's more important to take distancing seriously today rather than tomorrow as it's still more of a choice today. Lock down is happening again because of previous, current, failures, whatever they are, to stop the infection rate increasing.

There isn't the will.

They've tried to comply to government pressures and have done enough to avoid outside pressures. That's all they need to do. Any more a they loose revenue. Even if you report which they have recommended in their new rules all that happens is that you get blocked immediately from that person. So no point in reporting either. Just ignore or block them for the future.

I don’t disagree. I am not saying behaviour up to now has been good enough, too many people have taken too many risks right though. Risky behaviour is part of human nature but right now the importance of doing everything possible to cut transmission rates has never been so critical.

I've noticed a trend change in the past 7 months. Saying this is now much more acceptable. I and few others were saying this many months ago and constantly were told to mind our own business. If people wanted to meet that was their right to do so. It's changed my view on many fabbers and how self and and unconsiderate they really are. Its also questioned my view that fabbers have a higher care for their health and others than the vanilla world.
