Quick question, I've been told to get a covid test prior to travelling back to work in November.

How long do the results take if I use the NHS drop in centre?

The rule is I need a test 72 hours prior to flying.

You need to book a private test and charge it to your company. The NHS is not for this.

Yep, private test is the only way to go for this. Your work should be paying for this if they are sending you abroad.

Yes they will pay for it.

At the moment the closest place that will carry out a test privately is Leicester.

The local surgeries where I am are fully booked.

Go for a test now and see how long the result takes to come back, then you will have an idea of whether you need the private test when the time comes.

Can't go now still under statutory 14 days quarantine.

The rules state I need a negative certificate 72 hours prior to the time of departure, then I have another test on arrival.

Not displaying any symptoms. Like someone has said above I don't want to go bloating the NHS system.

Trying to get a test privately within a hundred mile radius is becoming difficult.

Airports may increasingly introduce them, such as Heathrow which started this week. Definitely research but there appears to be a growing number of places that test.

Beware that in person testing only may count.

Some destinations also offer them on arrival.

Cyprus is the tough destination at present in my opinion.

I have to depart from Leeds (KLM).

I arrived Humberside which is only a small airport.

well done OP... at least you seem to have some integrity

peoples self entitlement shocks me sometimes ... “just waste a practice NHS test to see how long the actual will take”when actually the NHS is already struggling to keep up with demand and should be providing neither

Lol this reminds me of the testing that was done in Nigeria.

It's a revenue earner. I know people were paying for a negative test result.

I suspect that the NHS test won't be suitable anyway.

The one for travel needs to have a time/date stamp on it to prove it is within the time constraints specified.

I am informed that the NHS don't provide that detail on their test results.

You can't use the NHS test for travel, they make it clear.

I used a company in Manchester called epistem. They will do it the same day for samples received before 9.00am. if you book with them they work out the timings for your flight.

Don't use royal mail to deliver they can't be relied on.

Have a look at this - you can use this certificate in some countries

I would assume if you travel abroad with work you would have a private health insurance? For example BUPA do tests and their clinics are around U.K.

Think the test type you want is PCR test taken as close as possible before departure. Sp quick result time is needed. Some countries like two tests a few days a apart.

Each country has its own rules. Us they keep changing. Buddy of mine spent 2 weeks in Quarantine for a 2 week job. Yup got paid for the 4 weeks. But rules changed on him while out. He could have another 2 weeks Quarantine on the way back too. Will get paid for that too. But 4 weeks Quarantine for a 2 week job.

It's exactly this. I need a test before departure then another on arrival. $150 and the results before you leave the terminal.

I've been tested eight times in total since August and all negative, however I don't know the accuracy of the tests being done.

The washing hands and wearing a mask seems to work in my case.

You need to check this carefully because if a country requires a certificate for entry it's extremely unlikely that a home test would be acceptable because you could swab your dog send it in and get a negative result, it you could swab yourself but incorrectly and get a negative test.

Hence why I’ve also posted other link to a company which provides Covid fit to fly certificates - different countries different rules - I do use all three options depending on which country I’m visiting.

Really, they were accepted by Hong Kong which have almost the strictest entry requirements currently.

They were excellent in their communication and speed.

You need to allow enough time to receive and do the test and then courier it back.

There are walk in places bit much more expensive and as mentioned many people want to minimise travelling in the UK.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8878251/12-minute-Covid-test-expected-available-Boots-weeks.html"

Just spoke with Boot's customer service today.

They hope to have the testing system up and running within the next 3-6 weeks which unfortunately will be outwith the timeline I require.

She also mentioned that the test will be carried out at only participating Boot's stores. So it maybe limited to the larger city branches.

Looks like you're going to have to waste a day. Is a day wasted at your employers expense so bad? I know it's not sightseeing, but there's probably worse days.

Its not the expense, its a day lost out of my leave.

I'm trying to keep the travel to minimum especially on public transport.

I'm awaiting feedback from a clinic in Hull which is the closest so far.

Why would you have to take leave if it's compulsory? If your employer requires it, it should be a paid day.

"Quick question, I've been told to get a covid test prior to travelling back to work in November.

How long do the results take if I use the NHS drop in centre?

The rule is I need a test 72 hours prior to flying.

"

Just check that 72 hour rule if transferring , we had all kinds of timing issues in the Middle East with flight re routes and delays. Dubai was saying 72 hours prior to landing not take off, It took a colleague 5 days to get from Nigeria to Pakistan then they said the test was invalid and made him isolate at the airport for 14 days

It's a day out of my leave travelling. I work fixed rotations and have done for years.

The Nigerians are just using it as a revenue earner.

The hotels that are being used for isolation are owned by government officials.

It's a pretty well known scam.
