"Why do we need a vaccine for a disease with a 0.14% infection fatality rate? Vaccines have their own risk factors as well." We need one to prevent many more people ending up with conditions that have arisen or may yet to arise as a result of having Covid19. We may well not know these conditions for many years yet.

"Why do we need a vaccine for a disease with a 0.14% infection fatality rate? Vaccines have their own risk factors as well." Where is your 0.14% derived from? Looking at the base of the UK figures, an imperial study for people who had tested positive for antibodies in August showed that an estimated 6% of the population had been infected. Around this time the excess deaths figure for the year was around 50,000. My back of a fag packet maths shows that's a death rate a little over 1%, which would equate to around 700,000 total deaths if everyone was to catch it

"Why do we need a vaccine for a disease with a 0.14% infection fatality rate? Vaccines have their own risk factors as well." 7 months in and still some people don't seem to get it! They don't understand why this isn't like the flu. They don't understand it's not just about fatality rates. They don't seem to understand R rate and the consequences of exponential growth. What are these "risks"? From WHO. ---------- CLAIM: "Vaccines cause many harmful side effects, illnesses, and even death - not to mention possible long-term effects we don't even know about." Vaccines are actually very safe, despite implications to the contrary in many anti-vaccine publications. Most vaccine adverse events are minor and temporary, such as a sore arm or mild fever. These can often be controlled by taking paracetamol after vaccination. More serious adverse events occur rarely (on the order of one per thousands to one per millions of doses), and some are so rare that risk cannot be accurately assessed. As for vaccines causing death, again so few deaths can plausibly be attributed to vaccines that it is hard to assess the risk statistically. Each death reported to ministries of health is generally thoroughly examined to assess whether it is really related to administration of vaccine, and if so, what exactly is the cause. When, after careful investigation, an event is felt to be a genuine vaccine-related event, it is most frequently found to be a programmatic error, not related to vaccine manufacture. ------------- So basically, 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 1,000,000+ presents serious side effects. There are 8,330 in hospital at the moment due to covid. I'd say that's quite serious. There's probably about 500,000 to 1,000,000 people in the UK who currently have covid (Based this on the estimate of 90,000 new cases a day which is perfectly possible with 20k testing positive). So, 1 in 120 people with covid are in hospital. I think i'd take my chances with the vaccine vs covid...

My back of a fag packet maths shows that's a death rate a little over 1%, which would equate to around 700,000 total deaths if everyone was to catch it " It's derived from the official mortality rate. Mortality rate can only be determined after a pandemic because during a pandemic you don't know who will still get infected. Mortality rate is a mixture of "deadlines" and contagiousness. Case Fatality Ratio on the other hand tells you the number of recoveries vs the number of deaths. So far we have 31,501,469 recoveries and 1,151,145 deaths, giving a CFR of 4%. Applying that to a population of 7.8 billion people gives you 312 million people. Why should we be concerned about that? So silly.

"Honestly this should be so easy for you to post a link because you've clearly read lots of peer reviewed science that this virus came from bats before you made that claim!. Didn't you? Just grow up you are acting like a kid not an adult. " What for asking for evidence for a massive claim?.

"Did it say how long the vaccines last for?" . that's a really good question. I caught a late night programme ,midweek ,on the world service radio,a sensible sounding scientist said..(I can only remember the gist of it.. sorry)any vaccine may not be the great thing we think it is.. something to do with a vaccines limited time because of Sars-2 covids particular craftiness..as I say it's only the gist of what he said..made me think .Sorry can't be clearer , thought it was worth mentioning .

And hopefully development continues.

" Yes according to the Bristol University study, the way the AZ one works is to tell your body how to create the spike proteins, once created the immune system can then recognise and fight the virus should you ever unfortunately be infected with the real thing.

As an aside I was under the impression that they thought it came from pangolins. Who knows " The evidence I've heard/ read suggests that it came from bats, and may have had an intermediary host before coming into humans. Off the top of my head I think the pangolin theory has fallen out of favour but it's been ages since I've heard anything about it.

Anything is better than nothing though " Actually I had pneumonia jab this week and was told that it's a one off. The nurse said only people certain liver conditions should need a booster I am not sure if originally people did need boosters but I think that just goes to show they continue to develop so hopefully this vaccine if people do need a booster for the time being will be the same.

"My body. My choice. How about MY choice NOT to be infected by someone else? You could always take the vaccine I will. Mostly to protect others. Because I respect their right not to be infected by me. Freedom only extends so far as the point where your freedom infringes on the freedom of others. Imagine saying it's my body and if I want to use it to commit murder or any other crime that is my right to choose? What you mean like abortion?" No. If I was talking about about abortion I would have said abortion. I'm talking about murder. When one person uses their body to take another person's life other than in self defence or war etc. Why can't we commit murder? This limitation imposes on our freedom, surely? I'm driving home the point is that freedom entails responsibility. When the freedom to DO anything entails limiting the freedom of someone else that is not freedom any more. We have a myriad of laws that protect people from other people's irresponsible behaviour. The Covid-19 restrictions are just more laws to do just that. The authorities are not to blame for enforcing restrictions. People who have spread the virus are responsible for making these laws neccesary.

"Maybe we should go the new Zealand route and put those who don't want the vaccine in camps indefinitely. ...definitely And without internet so they don't spout their tripe.. Give them access to wank fodder like qanon and David Icke nut job TV.. " I'd go for that. I'm sick to death of the whole bunch of them.

There's not one scientific journal listed in Fab's "accepted links" list. The BBC, Guardian etc are not scientific journals.
