"Why does this man want to cause harm to the people he is responsible for?" What will cause harm to the people he is responsible for, is this excuse for a government not providing enough money for people working in low paid jobs like hospitality to pay their bills whilst the government force their employers to shut the doors! Andy Burnham refused to be bullied by them and is a hero!

The staff are getting the closure furlough pay and with universal credit that tops the pay up to 80% for the whole closure time.... Thats Rishi's new furlough scheme. Plus the 22 million on top for backing up track and trace etc. I can see he's asked for enough money to last until April but surely if everyone pull their fingers out and in a months time they drop back down to a lower tier they won't need the figure he is talking about and it could go to another tier 3 zone that does need it?

"Why does this man want to cause harm to the people he is responsible for?" I think he is trying to protect jobs and businesses and feels that the government's approach is not right. The government needs to apply the same financial support that was available in the national lockdown to the local lockdowns. Nobody should be plunged into hardship because the government is trying to control a virus. Cal

That is my understanding to. In addition the £60 mil is still on the table that the government offered if he chooses to take it, £5 mil short of what he asked for.

A fine theory but of any area with additional restrictions applied since the summer, so covering all the tiers, only one has emerged from restrictions....which I believe is Luton. All the rest including Leicester still have restrictions of some sort.

"60 million offered and he rejected it. He shouldn't play poker if he doesn't know when to fold. Manchester is 60mill less well off as a result so well done AB, a hard lesson learned but you still want to whinge in Westminster and waste time and resources to save face. He reminded me slightly of Arthur Scargill last night on tv. This is not free money either so the bill will need to be paid later. " That money is still there for Manchester. "Why does this man want to cause harm to the people he is responsible for?" Because he and his councillor cronies do not have the brains they were born with. Did anyone see their briefing on TV yesterday, no social distancing and only one mask in sight. The y were standing about 1 to 2 feet apart (standing on 2ft flagstones so easy to see). They then came even closer to read messages on mobile phones. Complete idiots with no concern for anyone!

"So what happens when you don’t fucking qualify for universal credit then? It’s not something that everyone is entitled to- don’t swallow the propaganda message. You have to meet specific criteria to get it and it doesn’t cover mortgage costs and only covers part of the rent - and that’s assuming you qualify in the first place. Have you actually tried living on two thirds of your income? Has “Rishi” ever tried living on universal credit ? "How do these additional regional amounts actually get distributed to various business' and workers?...the current furlough scheme run by the HMRC portal is riddled with fraud ...around £3.5b in fraudulent claims so far. The fraud dwarfs the amount of these additional regional awards...Yes it matters very much...but it is dwarfed by £3b+ and rising of fraud under the furlough scheme...better checks are needed before making further amounts ... I read somewhere that the department are that overwhelmed they are just paying out. I'm guessing when things get back to normal they will go back and check everything. It's like when you pay too little tax about 5 years ago...HMRC have already sent warning letters out to those who have "overclaimed"....the fraud of some is a financially far bigger amount than the financial assistance spoken about in the last few days...some very greedy selfish people about And a lot of them are in positions of power....not really mostly small business' There is an estimated £41m unaccounted for in terms of pp1 contracts. Reece mogg and Hancock have both refused to answer questions on it. Does that not matter?"

His boss says that he can’t manage on the PMs salary.....one rule for the rich and the rest of us get the crumbs that fall off the table. " ![]()

"Why does this man want to cause harm to the people he is responsible for? What will cause harm to the people he is responsible for, is this excuse for a government not providing enough money for people working in low paid jobs like hospitality to pay their bills whilst the government force their employers to shut the doors! Andy Burnham refused to be bullied by them and is a hero! I am confused... The staff are getting the closure furlough pay and with universal credit that tops the pay up to 80% for the whole closure time.... Thats Rishi's new furlough scheme. Plus the 22 million on top for backing up track and trace etc. I can see he's asked for enough money to last until April but surely if everyone pull their fingers out and in a months time they drop back down to a lower tier they won't need the figure he is talking about and it could go to another tier 3 zone that does need it?" pull there finger out are you for real. Typical Tory call that unbelievable

"Dont know AB but admire him for standing up for people in his area and speaking up ....good on him ![]() Trump was at the battle of the little big horn..? Who knew eh.. Given the obscene waste of money this far in this pandemic the £5 million is a drop in the ocean for a government happy to pay serco consultants £7,000 per day yet have set a limit of 67% of salary for some of the lowest paid workers to exist upon.. Think about that Emma, the disparity and double standards of paying Serco employees £7,000 per day, that's the same company who in previous government contracts was guilty of fraud and false accounting.. And a cleaner or bar worker 67% and saying apply for UC to top it up.. It really does look wrong and regardless of any party loyalty the good old fashioned British sense of decency and fairness seems to have been conveniently forgotten..

"South Yorkshire has just moved into tier 42 million with a population of 1.4 million. Manchester has a population of 2.8 million ...so Andy's figure of 90 million was almost the same as what south Yorkshire has got per head. The 60 million the gvmt went up to was far short of what south Yorkshire has been given...govs excuse is it's got to be fair across the board. This shows it's certainly not...and if we are talking fairness...why the hell cant they pay per head the same amount to every area that goes into tier 3? Or is that too simple to do or is it just a case of boris bashing labour councils?" You want to check your figures, the south Yorkshire sum includes the £11m track & trace support, if you add the £20m Greater Manchester get for this their figure is £80m not £60m. That is in line with Liverpool, Lancashire & South Yorkshire.

"The number of times he changed his mind I don't know how Manchester has any respect for him. "This was never about the money", "we are standing up for councils across the country", "if they can do it to us they can do it to anyone", "the health and livelihoods of our residents is always a priority." Reducing Covid numbers were never a priority. He would have rather pushed Manchesters covid rate higher whilst not acting on any increasing covid risk, though though his actions, he put the rest of the country at risk in not gaining any control not least leadership. He would rather seek bail out money for weeks on end than be the guy that is the face of making businesses or residents wake up to their poor actions. Instead - he left numbers to spiral and let the Government be the face of the lockdown. He's now framing himself as David v's Goliath with his best kicked puppy face. He wanted £90m for 6 months - he didn't know if restrictions would be lifted after just 1 month. If he and his councils would have acted sooner in promoting covid awareness/mitigation, restriction may not even have been needed and residents jobs/lives may not be at the risk they are. Have you no idea of the frankly illogical and bordering on stupidity in saying the mayor of Manchester put the country at risk.. Get a grip mate, reality's slipping away.." It's a little unusual you don't equate inaction and increasing virus numbers to the spread of a pandemic. You must run a pub?

You were the one saying covid poses no risk and ya Pal Andy has had chats every day telling yokels about it. So nothing to back up your quite bizarre claim.. Good to see you accepted that nonsense.." When you realise there is a two week delay in covid reporting (government stats) and a two week incubation period. You may then add 1 and 3 together and realise any inaction today has a knock on effect in a months time. If you do not understand this then you can go about your business travelling the world, virus free, thinking you are ahead of the curve.

The majority of Manchester has the upmost respect for him, 600+ cases per 100k. The highest in the country. 40% of Englands cases concentrated in the North West. It is no kind of legacy. Andy Burnham is mayor of the north west? That is impressive ![]() Touchy arent you?

Have you no idea of the frankly illogical and bordering on stupidity in saying the mayor of Manchester put the country at risk.. Get a grip mate, reality's slipping away.. It's a little unusual you don't equate inaction and increasing virus numbers to the spread of a pandemic. You must run a pub? They've been pretty much in tier 2 for months, the tier system as stated by the scientific advisors is not going to do the job.. To suggest there's been no action is false, as false as your claim that he put the country at risk.. There's clearly an issue in the north west region granted with the numbers but the trend is and will be replicated in other similar areas too.. The tier system seems to be working in other parts of the country. What action has he taken? false in your opinion which is patently wrong. There are plenty of similar areas. Well given as you said his actions pit the rest of the country at risk, perhaps explain your own contradiction of the tier system seems to be working in other parts of the country? When you realise that the rest of the country will not be put at risk by the actions of one person governing a region of the country.. Making puerile assumptions to deflect from a simply wrong pov based on not liking someone only serves to highlight the idiocy of the original pov..
