Wearing a mask

It would appear that we are heading for lockdown again as those Covidiots simply don't seem to understand the seriousness of this pandemic.

The last time we had a really bad pandemic was in 1918 where over 40 million people died worldwide.

To those who think it's all fake.....WHY WOULD ANYONE PLUNGE THE WORLD INTO THIS?

A very simple idea....not a solution, would be that EVERYONE above the age of 5 years old, MUST wear a face mask as soon as they leave there home. It can only be taken off in there car, or, as rules currently provide, in a pub or restaurant.

It should be made MANDATORY, enforced by law, with fines starting at £500, and doubling on itself until it reaches £4,000.

Obviously children cant afford this, but there parents would be liable.

Actually this action is very close to what Belgium is doing, as they seem to be alot more proactive and less reactive.

Has it ever occurred that it's not actually the general publics fault and that labelling people as covidiots is counterproductive, divisive and unhelpful?

As for wearing of face coverings, thus far they seem to have made pretty much zero difference to the spread?

Enforcing a draconian regulation of wearing the damn things full time is a plan based on junk science which is more suited to a country like North Korea in 1974 than Great Britain in 2020?

Agree with this approach. Can’t help thinking how this would be policed though

If the child is not complying the fine is for them regardless of the person paying..

Mate I share the frustration, have had four family members with the virus and two were lucky to get through it albeit with still evolving further health issues..

There are not enough police to enforce the current guidance, adding in children down to those ages even if there is any evidence to suggest it's necessary us unworkable and once such things come in the snoops and busy bodies will be snitching on 4 and 5 year olds..

There are 42 peer + reviews that state masks are no protection from any viral infection.. they need to be to an FFP3 standard in terms of aerosol generating procedure... and then the efficacy of masks is no more than 30 mins to an hour..

There is a good video being shared around social media of 3 doctors showing the various masks and their effectiveness.

They explain and demonstrate each mask and its purpose.

The masks from shops was deemed useless, cloth masks even worse, surgical masks used by surgeons also useless against coronavirus,

Surgical mask with visor also useless against virus, they are used to protect from any blood when doing surgery.

There was one mask with 99% protection rate but needs to be fitted correctly and they use a spray to make sure nothing gets in.

Also these masks could only be worn for an hour or 2 before needing to be replaced.

Even though there is no evidence that such a measure would have any positive effect?

The only effect I could see arising from this is a greater lack of trust in the government/doctors/scientists and a greater number of regular people being criminalized.

Whilst the majority of people would (and have) accept strong action against the spread of the virus there needs to be robust and probable scientific theory behind measures implemented, in this case (and in the recent measures taken too), there just isn't.

Those studies are about protecting the wearer. I don’t disputed them, but they miss the point, masks are not about protecting the wearer from contracting the virus, we are wearing them to reduce viral transmission to everyone else from silent carriers

I disagree with you.. it’s not about protecting the wearer.. it’s about transmission.. and as for silent carriers.. the evidence for that is just controversial.. I would know..

It's absolutely shocking how many people have really strong opinions without knowing much about what wearing a mask actually does.

Surely the government needs to make some of the science behind their decisions to the forefront of their communications.

I always thought back in March some degree of compulsory mask wearing would at least

A) Raise awareness of basic hygiene, and make us a bit more like much of Asia in taking precautions

B) be very easy to enforce

C) be pretty cheap

Far too late now, not going to achieve anything

Central

We do need to pull people together, to get our behaviour aligned. This leadership lost it, from the moment that 1 of them was found to be working against the rest of us. All survey data shows public trust and confidence has plummeted since.

Enforcing a harsh police-style state never got to bring people together though, as dictatorships show.

Most of us don't know what the main strategy is now to get things right and trust has to be restored. Masks have a role but won't alone help us to empty our hospitals, now they are filling up. Our state services are under-resourced because those in power voted to make it so. And we voted them in again and again. Enforcement of much other than people being made to stay at home is now not very practical.

People need full or almost full pay when needing to isolate, otherwise they will go to work, if in low paid jobs at the most expensive time of year to run a home.

And we need testing and tracing to have the right capacity and to be fast, to get people to quarantine quickly. Do those things right and you can improve things, once people are behind it again.

And what about those who live rurally who could walk for miles and not see another person? They would also be caught by your "catch all" legislation when there's no risk of coming into contact with anyone (& way safer than going into pubs etc)

Maybe extend the mask wearing to younger age groups but it still needs the caveat of "where social distancing cannot be achieved..." as with the current face covering legislation.

Whacking a parent with a £500 fine because there 6 year old has run out to play with his mates what a great idea. And what are they going to do with all the people who can’t pay these ridiculous fines as they have lost their jobs due to all the restrictions. When people make these stupid statements trying thinking just for a minute before posting it on a forum "

Actually its happened before...

1918 Spanish flu everyone was ordered to wear masks, children and adults but not enforced with fines but mask shaming on posters and verbally shouting at people "do your bit to protect the people"

Seems I've touched a nerve with a few of you, but those who are being arrogant, I say, simply look at the figures with the volume of infections we now have which is far higher than back in April.

Of course there will be exceptions, which is obvious by the way, but the government should be providing exception badges or the like for those who need it, and not for people to have to register with an organisation and have to buy it

There are 42 peer + reviews that state masks are no protection from any viral infection.. they need to be to an FFP3 standard in terms of aerosol generating procedure... and then the efficacy of masks is no more than 30 mins to an hour..

Those studies are about protecting the wearer. I don’t disputed them, but they miss the point, masks are not about protecting the wearer from contracting the virus, we are wearing them to reduce viral transmission to everyone else from silent carriers "

Enforcing a draconian regulation of wearing the damn things full time is a plan based on junk science which is more suited to a country like North Korea in 1974 than Great Britain in 2020?"

According to some news sources North Koreans can get 3 months hard labour for not wearing a mask. Our system while not cheaper is very much more humane.

As for junk science Transport is proving to be the lowest set of infection figures where everybody has had to wear a mask for the longest time.

I think it's the empty public transport that is the success in that particular case.

If no one went into a pub it wouldn't transmit there either.

It would just transmit elsewhere instead. Humans are social creatures, a pub/bar/restaurant/cafe is simply another place to socialise. Probably a safer place to do so too given the checks in place.

And also we'd be throwing hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people on the scrap heap, it's not just bar and restaurant staff who would be affected by the collapse of the hospitality industry.

But still many many thousands of people are using public transport everyday and it still has the lowest figures. Japan France and Germany have presented many figures to support this.

The highest figures they found was in offices not wearing masks.

Do you know how the virus spreads and why masks are a way to reduce the infection?

yep, same as wearing a condom is not guaranteed to protect you from catching an STI

Seriously, if you can't work out that wearing a mask reduces your possibility of passing on infection and reduces the possibility of being infected then you are dumb. If everyone wears masks it reduces the overall possibility of transmission.

Maybe there should be £4,000 fines for people who don't understand science and statistics and the evidence that masks do not work.(WHO in feb)

The 'pandemic' is over. More tests will show more so called cases.

Tests are at best 50 accurate. You may as well toss a coin.

The PCR test was never designed to be used this way. Listen to the inventor of the test.

If you dispute the ONS data as shown by Ivor Cummins, and many others then stay at home in a dark room for the next 5 tears and stop annoying people on forums.

"Where is the evidence masks are working? "

There have been many tests and even videos made showing exactly how a mask provides protecting by reducing the flow of droplets through the mask, reducing the distance the droplets that do penetrate the mask travel afterwards.

Those tests show that if people observe the three basic rules wearing a mask in crowded places, keeping 2 metres distance and washing hands do effectively help prevent infection.

Not to sure if anyone else commented like I am about to. I got fed up reading it all.

Can you please tell me what the benefits of everyone reusing single us masks is going to have on controlling this virus. Taking the mask off your face and stuffing it in your pocket untill you need it again. Over and over again. It's pissing into the wind.

The hospital staff are not reusing masks. So why is it ok for people outside to do it.

Going into a restaurant wearing a dirty rag over your face. And takin got off at the table. Waste of time .

Unless you can tell me or show me some proof that I am wrong.

Even though it's not ideal, any physical barrier in front of the nose and mouth WILL restrict the distance that the moisture laden breath can project. A used mask will probably restrict more airflow than a new one due to the pores in the material being clogged.

So people dispute the official ONS data.

But offer NO other reliable data source..well done sheeple.

The hospitals are not overwhelmed.

This time of year always see an increase in admissions and deaths.

Nightingales not used.ICU beds are always at 90% anyway.

Even though it's not ideal, any physical barrier in front of the nose and mouth WILL restrict the distance that the moisture laden breath can project. A used mask will probably restrict more airflow than a new one due to the pores in the material being clogged.

I agree. But my opinion on masks isn't that they don't work. Cause they do.

My issue is that they are being reused over and over again. Being handled and touched. Then the person's hands are infected. And it's a ongoing process of passing on covid. When covid first came out. People were wearing gloves and masks. I can't remember the last time I seen someone wear gloves in Tesco.

"Not to sure if anyone else commented like I am about to.

"i cant see a cheap cotton face mask made in china saving anyone"

This is so true, it's merely to give a false sense of security to people who are forced to carry on working. Unless the mask is well maintained and certified for medical use, they are useless. I tried to run with a cotton mask on and nearly collapsed, same sprint with a medical grade mask and it was fine.
