"Bit of a touchy one but does anyone actually know somebody who has died from JUST covid and without other health problems. " No. I've only known one person who's been properly diagnosed with COVID-19 in hospital and it took him around 16 weeks to get fully fit again. 2nd person I know was unable to get tested or seen by a doctor but has been diagnosed retrospectively as having had covid-19 and it took them around 7 weeks to fully recover.

"The numbers of people dying from Covid are also misleading, as deaths are recorded as deaths from Covid, even if Covid has only been a contributing factor. So, for example, someone could be terminally ill with lung cancer and in intensive care with that, then catch Covid, which would accelerate the death. That death would then be put down to Covid, even though it was cancer. It's all very misleading and contributes to the scaremongering. We really wish people would think for themselves a little and look at the bigger picture. " People don't usually die of cancer. They generally die from complications of cancer. Everyone should look at the bigger picture. The final death toll of covid won't be know for many many years, younger people who sadly die of covid damage to their kidneys lungs heart or brain won't die for many years but covid will accelerate their deaths. One thing is for certain covid will be the biggest cause of preventable death in the uk this year.

"The problem with some underlying health problems if that they can often be picked up during a post mortem. Someone may have been totally unaware they were living with a condition until it contributes to their death. If a death it being linked to covid then I don't think post mortems are being carried out. So some people who may have died with covid could possibly have had underlying health issues they never knew about " True, but it was COVID that ultimately killed them

Do you mean co2? I know of two who were severe, one expected not to make it but got through and both have long covid symptoms which they are still finding out about.. Two others were mild and doing ok.. And three family members dealing with covid patients in the NHS, they have seen enough..

I was just pointing out that there could be a large number of people who have sadly died with other underlying health problems they never knew about which will never be picked up on in the usual way due to the lack of post mortems

On the gov website they are shown as "deaths within 28 days of a positive test" Or "deaths with covid on the death certificate". Not really sure what your point is. If it's semantics of how we count deaths. I'm not sure there is a better way. What you say of covid is equally true of some cancers or indeed many other illnesses. My dad died of pneumonia, cause of death pneumonia, but it was a 3 year fight with cancer that put him there, cancer mentioned on certificate and both were relevany. It is not black and white, but shades of grey in many cases.

Once you stop and think of what happens and what is recorded on a death certificate and why it is really simple statistically. The key point is that the way people die and what is recorded on the death certificate doesnt follow the simple tick box narrative that you seem to want to fit it to.

Probably more damaging than all things, as we can see it leads to people taking sides and falling out where they may not have done... I know these fora are not the B and end all... But I'd assume a reasonable cross section for what's happening out there. Some people (me in that group) have become very unforgiving and much less tolerant as we have dragged this out all by ourselves.

Do you know the answer or is it a worthless point you are trying to make. My uncle has terminal cancer, heart issues and is over 70. If he catches covid today and dies within two weeks then its covid that killed him not his terminal cancer. It really is not misleading, if it contributed to someone's demise is is simply on the certificate as a factor . The cancer would also be stated. I cannot see any confusion?" Just had a thought.... if it contributed.. or was present? And when the ONS is carefully and accurately collating its figures... how are co morbidities reported? When we say Bob died from a,b and c.... which goes foremost into cause of death? (For once asking a genuine question) how do we separate Bobs cancer from his Covid ?

" im sorry for your loss and apologise if how i discuss this offends we have people above posting about how if you die with covid when you already had an underlying condition such as cancer then thats not really covid related death as though it is an acceptable number i would assume your friends already had some mental health issues... to go from an entirely healthy mind to suicide and entirely attribute it covid i feel is a bit of a leap and no different to people saying the covid situation accelerated a cancer that was already there now i will say that i don’t think either death is an acceptable loss , but this never seems to be an angle that people consider ... perfectly mentally healthy people don’t just kill themselves after a hard 6 months we need to find a way where we can restrict covid, continue to treat physical illness (like cancers etc) and while we are finding the money to throw at furlough, we also need to find cash to throw at mental health as it was an issue long before covid but much like the other waiting lists going up in hospitals, it will be exacerbated by covid and we need to make sure funding is not the reason anyone misses out on the help and care they need

My understanding is that it's a contributory cause more often than the principle, but that's because, for example, blood clots eg pulmonary embolism are perhaps the thing that cut the oxygen supply off and the person died, but they'd never have had a pulmonary embolism if they didn't have Covid, a disease now known to cause increased blood clotting.

I'm not sure that the ONS are differentiating between different 'levels' of cause? But then I don't know enough about how the ONS is using death cert data.

"Technically, the only thing anyone dies from is permanent cardiac arrest. Tragically that is sometimes concurrent with multiple injuries in fatal accidents. Covid is just one of many contributory factors and the newest kid on the block. I wonder what cause gets entered in the coroner's paper work?" Actually that’s incorrect a person can die from respiratory arrest also. A friend of a friend passed away the week before last he was 48 no underlying conditions and left behind two young children.

"Yes, I’ve witnessed148 individuals passing away within 28 days of testing positive for covid-19, I also seen 43 covid-19 sufferers who have passed the 28 day mark but never recovered from the damage their systems have taken. What I can say is none of them would have died without the virus, they covered a multitude of ages, the youngest was 21, the eldest 98. I find posts like this pretty disrespectful to those people I’ve met and their families. In WW2 it’s estimated 1 in 30 families lost a relative during the conflict. There was no hint that “this terrible conflict is actually a light skirmish”, I don’t get why people wish to try to undermine the reality. I appreciate not everyone sees the red zones across the U.K., they don’t see the patients ordeal but a simple look at the world news clearly illustrates the horrific impact this virus has. Perhaps think about it this way... if you read this tomorrow then the figures are out of date, we currently lose a covid patient every 2.5 hours. It matters x" Charli, firstly thanks, enormous thanks for doing what you do. But I wanted to say I think your posts are always the most balanced, informative, knowledgeable. You manage to say things many of us probably want to but without anger or insult and with dignity. I think that skill could be put to better use outside of these forums to help peoples thinking, attitudes and behaviours.

I don't fully understand the virus I'm by no means a specialist but if you research it you will understand how it attacks the body. I had it in October and I was very lucky to avoid hospitalisation but on two occasions in one day I thought my number was up. When you have it, you suddenly realise how fragile we actually are and how lucky we are to live in a time of such medical advances, yet this has come along and without intervention could send us back to the stone age. When you feel your body being taken over bit by bit not daily but hourly, asking. " Surely there's nothing else it can attack?" Then bingo another symptom. So whilst you may be fit and healthy, you may have an issue you know nothing about but if your unlucky covid will find your weaknesses and attack them. Its a fucking awful thing. My previously very healthy sister is still very unwell been off work for 3 months, my wife is also still suffering almost 3 months on and she's one of those people who never gets sick. To put it another way. If you get shot the bullet may rip through your body and cause organ failure. Yeah you died of organ failure but it was because of the bullet. Covid is a bullet.

Covid is a bullet. i like that bullet metaphor reading that though i couldn’t help but think it must have been horribly terrifying for you ... we’ve probably all gotten a bit dramatic when unwell but with the publicity and stories and death toll of covid it must genuinely go through your head this is it for me what kind of mental impact does that have too... do you think after the vaccination when things are a bit more normal you will be grasping everything in life or quite a bit more nervous that another new illness could be so easily caught and spread? " Mentally it's been very difficult especially as my mum died 3 days before my symptoms started so not being able to attend her funeral in fact no one did as everyone was sick with covid or isolating, that was hard. But moving forward , currently just thinking about getting to the end of each week. The constant fatigue is just tiering. I now am finding myself in constant fear not for me but my family and kid's. But what can you do other than carry on and keep going.

"Seeing the devastion it caused my mum and then having to deal with idiots who refuse to wear a mask and I'm not allowed to question it, yet have to get up close to do my job and so do my co workers really boils my piss, it's real and not just a mild recoverable illness!" Understand this post. Our entire household had it and recovered, was very much touch and go for one. Mother now has it and it's precarious due to her breathing issues, doesn't look good, lost one of the family already. These conspiracy theorists haven't got a clue. Guy at work, a big conspiracy theorist was banging on about it and lost his Dad, he's not saying shit now, wonder if he'll reflect on his Nazi shit too. Dude travelled to Auchwitz to see for himself the lies said about the Reich. Twat!

"Nope never have and never will. It is what it is there no point hiding behind a mask. where all going the same place in the end I'm presuming you dont go out then as almost everywhere requires a mask to enter.? Probably be safer for the rest of us"

"There was someone yesterday evening that came up on "All updates" with a status update all about how the videos of empty hospitals on social media are finally waking people up to the Covid Hoax !!! A saying I learnt a long time ago "Its difficult to win an disagreement with an intelligent person, it's impossible to win an disagreement with a stupid person " " Exactly.

"If Covid has accelerated their death, then they have died due to Covid. If someone had an underlying heath issue which they previously managed and was able to live a normal life but was worsened due to Covid and died, then they have died due to Covid. I don't understand the mental gymnastics people are doing to try and downplay the Covid numbers. " So so right. Finally someone talking logical sense. Guess what, the only certainty in life is we'll die. If the heart stops you are dead. Whether that's because of cancer or a bus the end result is the same. Anything that hastens it is not good, or at least that's the case in my book. Every single person on here has access to the ONS statistics. They can do their own research rather than aimlessly repeating half truths and hearsay or making daft comments that just because they don't know anyone that's died of Covid it isn't true. On the ONS site you can find raw facts. I have just looked up the raw data for 2020. The spreadsheets show deaths for every week of the year in England and in Wales. It shows the 5 year average and it shows the highest and lowest figures over the past 5 years. Its in. Xls format. Go download for yourselves. A quick summary: Deaths in England for 2020 = 566,082 Avg of previous 5 yrs = 496,309 In these raw stats there are no causes attributed. So maybe road deaths rocketed (despite lockdown). Who knows... Almost 70,000 more than average in England alone. So roughly 1 in 850 more deaths than usual, so it's quite feasible you know of no one personally that died as a result of Covid. God knows what they teach in schools these days, but clearly a large proportion of people are incapable of separating fact from fiction. Discuss the merits or not of lock down versus the economy...or that the NHS is over or under funded. Fine. But implying Covid isn't all its cracked up to be is just lazy ill informed stupidity. Check for yourselves. (search: ONS deaths)

"Sorry to the ones that have passed then but i still think its all over hyped and theres a bigger picture. They dont perform autopsys so we will never know the real cause. and The masks they demand us to wear kill us off more than virus. Breathing back in the dirty toxins we're supposed to breath out" Gosh that must be why all those surgeons that wear these masks die after wearing them for hours for surgery, oh and dont forget the dentist and vets! Love to know what research you read to give such an informed opinion. Is it on gaseous exchange as all these mask allow for gaseous exchange! If not what tocins are you referring to???

"I think if that was the case alot of people who have to wear ppe constantly for there work would have health problems right?. " Exactly this! I wear a mask in work and travel to and from for 12 hours a day nearly, I have absolutely no issues with my health doing so whatsoever! You don't breath in dirty toxins as someone has put on here, it's been proven countless times they are safe to wear if worn correctly, the amount of people on practice I have to constantly remind to wear it properly really gets on my nerves, if I can do it for my entire shift, you can do it for the half hour or so you spend in my practice! I'm protecting you by doing so, show me the courtesy of doing so too!
