Boris decides to stop any further restrictions and let everyone use common sense.

What would YOU have to say IF death tolls once again reach 1000 a day or more and hundreds of thousands off sick ?

If we rely on common sense it won't be a matter of if it would be a forgone conclusion.

Central

Everyone has a different understanding of common sense. We're also innately very poor judges of risk.

Society benefits from restrictions on potential things that we could do, some of them enshrined in law, that help to codify what's helpful or not for life here. Every person for themselves is not an ideal way for the largely ignorant population to order itself.

Certainly without restrictions, our infection levels would soar catastrophically, with us all paying a huge price.

Without being partisan in any way. Nobody but nobody has a proper handle on this. Total lock-down of course will help. But lock-down until everybody has had a vaccination? Just isn't close to being real.

Governments (any) Can make grand schemes and myriad ways to control us and it. And they have, and what are we left with? Let people use their common-sense. Sadly that boat has sailed. I think actually that the common-sense boat was never in port.

Here is the irony of the whole thing - Everybody screams about the freedoms being lost, while at the same time screaming that the government aren't protecting them.

The notion of 'we are all in this together'. Well that was just a Freedom Song that we all got fed-up of once we realised the the scale of the imposition it was going to place on our lives. So we took little steps that got gradually larger until - for many - they are just walking free without a care in the World.

Have you noticed now how, externally, many big name high-street stores are still doing the controlled 2 meter access outside and when you get in it's everyone for themselves! How many people are wearing a mask but have found the loophole of carrying a drink and drinking through a straw so that they don't have to - or the under nose wearers - How the fuel stop used to have someone going to the pumps to wipe the nozzle handle - or have gloves. Non of that exists now.

Maybe when all said and done - we have try new ways of getting through until a working vaccine is found.

.

Those large numbers of deaths are avoidable, we know now who's at the big risk, elderly in care homes, people with underlying illnesses (we even know which ones), we had all summer in the nice weather and while hospitals were traditionally quite to either raise infections levels and thus helping with fast rising levels of infection in the winter or spend some money properly ring fencing the severely at risk group, rapid testing in care homes, raising wages to encourage those that can live in the home to do it, separating multi generational households with free hotels.

Sadly all our useless inept leaders from n Ireland to London can think to do is decimate the economy under the guise of scientific advice.

So you know better than the 13,000 or so eminent scientists (Including a Nobel price winner) and doctors who have signed the Great Barrington Declaration in the last few days?

Which includes the sentence "Those who are not vulnerable should immediately be allowed to resume life as normal"

I urge everyone to look it up. read it and note the signatories

Yes, but what it doesn't say is that numbers "will not" soar.

The common sense tells me that we are going in circles with the current strategy and something needs to be changed ASAP.

So we stop cancer treatment, diabetes treatment, heart bypass operations etc etc ?

All of these things cost the taxpayer money and the country would be much better if we used this wasted money on things like infrastructure and play parks

Great Barrington Declaration

Very interesting read...

The most compassionate approach that balances the risks and benefits of reaching herd immunity, is to allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally to build up immunity to the virus through natural infection, while better protecting those who are at highest risk. We call this Focused Protection.

So the vulnerable should stay at home...

Until when....

What about their mental health....

And no visitors inside the house....in October November december...

13,000 signatures out of how many million

This is giving "carte blanche" to governments around the world to put old people under house arrest effectively....... it's bollox and should not be sanctioned by anyone!

Just a couple things that need to be remembered :

1 : For all of those claiming that removing restrictions will overwhelm the NHS, can you explain to me please how the NHS is any less likely to be overwhelmed if only the most vulnerable are vaccinated before restrictions are lifted?

2: I see lots of people saying the vulnerable couldn't do anything if covid were allowed to run and I'm struggling to understand it. Covid is, primarily, a respiritory infection in the same way as flu and colds are. Flu can also be deadly, do you shield every year from that? Yes there's a flu vaccine but it is not 100% effective so there's still a chance of getting it. There are no treatments for flu either....

3: Restrictions and closures have costs far beyond the obvious economic ones. These are being ignored. Why?

The idiots wont be culled but the innocent vulnerable people that they come into contact with might be.

For point 2.

You cannot compare flu with covid-19 in their morbidity, yes transmission is very similar, but the rate that sars-cov-2 attaches to lung tissue is extremely high compared to influenza.

Add in the sepsis, serious pneumonia and cytokine storm complications and its a horrible way to die. Thats what we are trying to protect people from, its a small ask in my eyes, we can live responsibly with this virus its whether we choose to

Might sound a simple plan for a bunch of boffins, bit like when let's go to the moon or build an atom bomb was suggested..

Trouble being the reality is the numbers of elderly and those not elderly with underlying health is said to be between 20-25% and many of the latter work and contribute as do many over 65s..

It's something yes that could work but the resources to do so to ensure its not just some prolonged shielding with the inherent issues of mental health etc would be massive, and it would take months to set in place..
