Just seen that a too cool to wear a mask adultjust got kicked off a tube for not wearing a mask by a uniformed police officer who asked him to wear a mask as required. Well bloody well done I say about time. Hobby little shit was lucky he didn’t get a fine. I’ve personally wanted to kick several people off myself but finally we are policing transport after not seeing any officers for months! Anyone want to argue this one?

Not all disabilities are visible. If you crack down hard on someone with an exemption then you're going to be the 'twat on the tube' when it goes viral

Then surely the person would explain they’re exempt and not get kicked off. I have an exempt family member and they have a card with a lanyard I think these should be compulsory for all exempt people.

they have been policing it for a while at Stafford Station.

Police on the doors at peak times.

But as soon as people are the Station and out of sight of the police they take them off.

why should anyone be forced to display their private health status to anyone. What little rights remain must be protected.

nobody has the right as to enquire about anyone's mental or physical health. That's between doctor and patient....not patient and anyone who asks or demands to 'see your papers'. Why not just leave people the hell alone an do your own thing

I agree that on one should have to give a reason.

However they should wear the sunflower lanyard.

By not wearing a mask you expect people to realise you are expect so just put the lanyard on and then anyone that challenges you is a twat.

Well You don’t have to display your health status just the fact you’re exempt. That would be far less embarrassing than being questioned I would think. Because people ‘doing their own thing’ has led to 40000 plus deaths and more to come and people are selfish bastards.

He doesn’t have the right not to it’s a legal requirements to save lives. If he had exemption he would have told the police person the police person would have a list of conditions and all they needed to so was state which one. Seriously it’s not rocket science no one wants anyone’s rights we just all want to see our parents live a little while longer ffs.

Members of the public shouldn't be challenging anyone for not wearing a mask.

Iv been challenged very aggressively 3 times by Members of the public even with my lanyard on. Iv been asked "why can't you wear a mask, you look fine to me selfish girl"

I didn't leave the house for 4 days after that.

Agree totally if you claim to be exempt you have or should have an exemption card available.

I have seen people on tubes and trains when asked why they are not wearing masks show the card to TFL and Police and they have said they understand why they have it in their wallet.

But the best was a ethic 6th former tell a ethic Policewoman she was racist for asking him and his mates to wear a mask. His mates decided to mask up but he refused. So she and a PCSO who was with her at the local bus stop, done a stop and search and found he was carrying. So his showing off got him a lot more than a fine!!!

I have also today seen the local school teachers get on the bus and catch pupils out for not wearing mask!.

Maybe people are now understanding that they need to mask up!!

Iv copied this from the the government website.

Exemption cards

Those who have an age, health or disability reason for not wearing a face covering should not be routinely asked to give any written evidence of this, this includes exemption cards. No person needs to seek advice or request a letter from a medical professional about their reason for not wearing a face covering.

Some people may feel more comfortable showing something that says they do not have to wear a face covering. This could be in the form of an exemption card, badge or even a home-made sign.

This is a personal choice and is not necessary in law.

If wearing a mask is so important then there should be no exemptions. There are adapted masks such as those with clear panels for lip reading.

I disagree learning disabilities mean the wearing of a mask causes massive sensory issues. To force those people would be cruel.

I think people like this should be marked some how, then we could all identify them as a danger to our health. Maybe as the situation goes on these people could all be rounded up together in segregated areas so the only people they endanger are themselves! That way our pure healthy community can go on! As this problem occurs right across Europe, maybe all the effected countries could come together, make some really large segregated "camps", and each country could send their marked members by train to these areas. Probably best to send any family members along with them. And anyone who sympathises with there view point. Of course they would need to be decontaminated before entry.

Some people are exempt for medical reasons and rightly so !

Some people are just arseholes and think they are above the law.

The problem is sorting one from the other.

The people who are medically exempt would i am sure explain to the police officer that they were exempt in a polite and reasonable manner.

The arsehole would just behave like an arsehole.

I am very uncomfortable with the idea that certain specific groups of people need to prove they're exempt from something or worse still should be forced to wear a sign that clearly identified them as from that group. Saying its in "their" best interests is not a good enough reason in my opinion.

Tough one but the idea of saying people who are exempt should display something saying so is wrong in my opinion.

The Jews were told to wear a star to identify themselves as Jewish, we haven't come very far have we ? Wear something around your neck or a badge or have a card identifying yourself as a person with disabilities that means you can't wear a mask.

Like I say it's a tough one because I'd like to see everyone wearing one and I also think that everyone could simply say I'm exempt as for identification I'm not sure (haven't got a better idea either)

I personally encountered an amusing tube incident before the lockdown.

Nobody was wearing masks back then, except for a family of Chinese tourists. A local made sarcastic comments to them about how they were responsible for the virus and it was funny that they should now wear masks after bringing it to us. They just looked puzzled as I don't think they understood what she was saying.

Since the beginning of Covid 19 I have read stuff on here but not added to posts many times.

I have to say my mind boggles at some of the posts and theroies that I have read.

Luckily I am a half glass full type of person and even though I was on my own for weeks on end , my youngest moved out as they were still working and I have health problems and spent nearly a week in hospital having an op at the being of August I am still hopeful and happy. You have to be . Otherwise what is the alternative.

There is no similarity. Comparing asking people to wear a face covering during a worldwide pandemic, to the deliberate genocide of six million Jews is a bit of a stretch even for Clem.

It has been suggested in this thread that people who are exempt from wearing a mask should wear a sign that enables them to be identified. That is what I don't agree with.

It really is nothing to with Jack boots or anything remotely similar . . .

It is to do with being politely asked and politely replying why you are exempt.

I can't see that in a reasonable exchange like that that there would be a problem.

(Of course that's as long as the Police are not behaving like Mr & Mrs Jobsworth).

"I think people like this should be marked some how, then we could all identify them as a danger to our health. "

I'm really surprised that nobody else has seen the similarity.

Yet we all wonder how it was allowed to happen

I'm sorry are you suggesting that the need for people to wear masks on public transport to reduce the spread of an infection is analogous with the Genocide by hitler in the 2nd world war.?

No. I'm suggesting that requiring certain people to wear a sign that marks them out from others is the thin end of the wedge.

"

The thin end of what wedge? The wedge that leads to Genocide? Which you were implying.? Or the wedge that leads to reducing the spread of infection.?

We need to reduce the spread. It calls for people to change what they are doing. If it was easy we would all be doing it.

If people want this policing then there has to be a method by which the police can identify those who are exempt and those who are spinning a line.

Surely those who are exempt have vested interests in making sure those who are not adhere to the rules and could facilitate this by having some form of card that simply states "exempt".

It doesn't have to detail medical history, the reasoning for exemption, what brand of tea they drink.. purely they are exempt.

I've never heard of anyone kicking up a fuss about putting a blue badge in their car window to show they can legally park in disabled bays or on yellow lines?

Sadly until there is a definitive indication of who is exempt and who isn't any person can simply say "I'm exempt" This then places the police in a difficult situation, as a previous poster has already said, they're not doctors nor are they mental health practitioners, so who are they to say the person in front of them is not exempt. I know i'd simply be saying fair enough and walk away as it wouldn't be worth their job to try and challenge people who may or may not be genuinely exempt / disabled.

However those who can't act for the greater good of society are simply selfish. Stop whining about living in a police state, your rights being eroded and all the other drivel... if this virus had you bleeding from the eyes you'd think twice about moaning about your human rights.... and breathe...

"Some people are exempt for medical reasons and rightly so !

Some people are just arseholes and think they are above the law.

The problem is sorting one from the other.

The people who are medically exempt would i am sure explain to the police officer that they were exempt in a polite and reasonable manner.

The arsehole would just behave like an arsehole.

This...in a nutshell, this."

Took my 87 year old mum to hospital yesterday for heart check. She struggles breathing bless her. She didn't hVe to wear a mask. She chose to. So she could be seen to be doing her bit for all the lovely Dr's and nurses. If she can do it... Most others can. That's not to say there will be exemptions for medical and emotional reasons, which should be supported. The issue are the many who can wear one and choose not to. So question then...how do you solve that problem?

Then like in the old days of not having your driving license or insurance certificate to hand the Police give you a producer.

Perhaps 14 days in which to either produce your exemption card or evidence of exemption.

Exemption to be either submitted electronically or at a station after approved by a GP or other certified practitioner perhaps.

If this was the case it would be the gmnts responsibility to issue them.

Not saying it's perfect, nor is it right or wrong. Simply that's one of many avenues that could be explored.

However relying on people to be honest and do the right thing clearly appears to be failing so if people want it enforcing there has to be some system in order to do this.

Do we believe in masks? Personally no, however we wear them as it's the law and if it reduces the risk by even a tiny amount for others than it makes sense.

Not sure we completely agree with some of the other rules however they're not here to stay so if abiding by them increases the chance of a return to normal life then so be it.

I'd prefer people to be given a health pack, if anything, if not wearing a mask. It could contain an infection guide, hand sanitiser wipes, support services contact details etc. Challenging people, with the assumption that they are doing something wrong, when they are equally in the right to those wearing them, is not appropriate. They shouldn't be forced to disclose highly personal, as well as what also may be traumatic information about themselves to others in public.

Then how do you enforce the wearing of masks for people who refuse to wear them?

The simple question is do you want people to abide by the rules / law and these to be enforced or are you happy for people to just do what they want?

Providing a health pack to someone exempt is pointless, as they are exempt..

Providing a health pack to someone who doesn't want to wear a mask and lies about being exempt is pointless.. they aren't going to wear the mask or give two hoots about the other contents as they already have shown little regard for the safety of others.

No one should have to disclose personal information, but just like the blue badge is a symbol of exemption or right to use certain facilities this could also be used for exemptions.

No personal details are conveyed through the blue badge system.

"Not all disabilities are visible. If you crack down hard on someone with an exemption then you're going to be the 'twat on the tube' when it goes viral

Then surely the person would explain they’re exempt and not get kicked off. I have an exempt family member and they have a card with a lanyard I think these should be

compulsory for all exempt people.

why should anyone be forced to display their private health status to anyone. What little rights remain must be protected.

nobody has the right as to enquire about anyone's mental or physical health. That's between doctor and patient....not patient and anyone who asks or demands to 'see your papers'. Why not just leave people the hell alone an do your own thing "

For the same reason it's a requirement to display a is badge when parked in a disabled space.

We are wrong to impose blame, criticism or extra responsibilities on to those who are fully complying with the law and have no imposed obligation to wear a mask or to expose themselves to intrusive approaches in public.

A health pack could include a sealed mask, helpful support info, sanitiser wipes etc. I prefer not to start with the presumption that people are doing something wrong, when mask and maskless are valid appropriate behaviours for different groups of people.

I always wear a mask but a man pushed physically against me in a store earlier this week, whilst not wearing 1, either for some personal gratification, he had inappropriate behavioural and respect for others levels, or something else. His right to wear or not wear a mask was a separate point, as I was physically taken aback by someone intruding on my body and personal space.

So... why are you worried about other people not wearing a mask? Is it because you know your mask is useless against a virus? If you found out wearing a mask stopped 50% of airborne virus being inhaled would you wear 2?

Why do you behave as if someone not wearing a mask presents such a personal risk that you'd be violent against them, if you believe that the mask you wear gives you any protection at all?

"Tough one but the idea of saying people who are exempt should display something saying so is wrong in my opinion.

The Jews were told to wear a star to identify themselves as Jewish, we haven't come very far have we ? Wear something around your neck or a badge or have a card identifying yourself as a person with disabilities that means you can't wear a mask.

Like I say it's a tough one because I'd like to see everyone wearing one and I also think that everyone could simply say I'm exempt as for identification I'm not sure (haven't got a better idea either) "

the difference being here the identifying item would be to award you an additional freedom (exemption from mask wearing) rather than to take a freedom or opportunity away from you

oh and the fact a mask missing from your face is already a pretty obvious visual indicator

Who is apportioning blame on to people who are exempt?!

The point is until we have psychic police officers there has to be some acceptance that a check will need to be carried out in order to confirm or negate an individuals exemption. This does not infer guilt, this is a reasonable measure to enforce a law.

As I have said you either want the rules enforcing or you don't. If you don't then fine, accept that some law abiding people will wear masks, some will simply choose not to, and those who are exempt will continue to exercise their right to not wear one or not if they choose.

However if you want the rules enforcing then also accept that in order to enforce them those tasked with enforcing the rules will need to ask if you are exempt or not, the current system allows any individual to either refuse to answer that question or simply state they are exempt without offering any proof. So any individual is free to simply say "i'm exempt" legally or not there is little the police can do about that.

Having a system where by those who are exempt have proof to show exemption works two fold. Those exempt know they have a legally issued card / document that to back them up should they be challenged by not only the police but anyone else (not that this is right). But it also assists in identifying those not exempt. If carrying a card on your person to show to a Police officer doing his job to try and make sure you're safe is a burden.. well then perhaps the human race is already doomed.

No matter how many hugs and care packages you give out, those who choose not to abide by a law will continue to choose not to abide by it, hey if you want to give a cup of tea to a burglar and hope he doesn't screw your neighbours house after yours then more power to you. The only difference is you've now wasted money producing a care package for people to continue ignoring the law, but hey they can now not wear a mask, not sanitize their hands and also not ring a support number.

I know,I know....some people are exempt. Only, they may be exempt from having to wear a face covering, they're not necessarily exempt from spreading their germs everywhere. Maybe they don't have to wear a mask but, they could,,,,if they wanted to,if they cared."

They are exempt for a reason

"So... why are you worried about other people not wearing a mask? Is it because you know your mask is useless against a virus? If you found out wearing a mask stopped 50% of airborne virus being inhaled would you wear 2?

Why do you behave as if someone not wearing a mask presents such a personal risk that you'd be violent against them, if you believe that the mask you wear gives you any protection at all?

As has been pointed out many many times before, the mask YOU wear is not intended to protect YOU,it's supposed to protect everyone else. If everyone else was wearing one, that is what is supposed to protect YOU,,,from THEM.

So these are some kind of intelligent masks? One's that know only to stop virus going out but not in? Surely if it is possible that we could be occupying shared space with super spreaders such as children, we should be wearing PPE which can protect us from the covid virus?

"I am very uncomfortable with the idea that certain specific groups of people need to prove they're exempt from something or worse still should be forced to wear a sign that clearly identified them as from that group. Saying its in "their" best interests is not a good enough reason in my opinion.

Well put... seriously it a paper mask not an iron lung. Totally agree if you don’t wear a mask don’t travel and especially don’t stand near me or I will challenge you! And I’m not in the Gestapo ... let’s leave the war references out of this shall we..."

Alternatively. When people stop making any excuse and formulating any argument that they are the ones that don't need to protect anyone because it's all just a vast Conspiracy. It will actually get better.

Omg these two or completely away with the fairies.... 40 odd thousand people dead in this country alone... it’s a paper mask just a paper mask!

I'm all for mask wearing, despite having reservations about its efficacy. I am against forcing people to publicly mark themselves out as belonging to a certain group

No-one is forcing them to, it's entirely voluntary.

It has been suggested in this thread that people who are exempt from wearing a mask should wear a sign that enables them to be identified. That is what I don't agree with. "

"It really is nothing to with Jack boots or anything remotely similar . .

I'm really surprised that nobody else has seen the similarity.

Yet we all wonder how it was allowed to happen

"Not all disabilities are visible. If you crack down hard on someone with an exemption then you're going to be the 'twat on the tube' when it goes viral

Then surely the person would explain they’re exempt and not get kicked off. I have an exempt family member and they have a card with a lanyard I think these should be

compulsory for all exempt people.

why should anyone be forced to display their private health status to anyone. What little rights remain must be protected.

nobody has the right as to enquire about anyone's mental or physical health. That's between doctor and patient....not patient and anyone who asks or demands to 'see your papers'. Why not just leave people the hell alone an do your own thing

Well You don’t have to display your health status just the fact you’re exempt. That would be far less embarrassing than being questioned I would think. Because people ‘doing their own thing’ has led to 40000 plus deaths and more to come and people are selfish bastards.

Don’t let people get to you. If you are exempt and have proof why, then ignore these horrible dingbats.

I won't do that because I'm a decent human being.

I shouldnt be in that situation in the first place.

"Has anyone who’s exempt from wearing a mask actually tried wearing one?

Yes i wore one for the first couple of weeks.

Had so may meltdowns that I would 2 or 3 days to recover each time I left the house.

Now I face abuse every time I leave the house.

I have tried because do you really think I want everyone think im either disabled or an arsehole.

Could you wear a face shield instead?

You didn't see the study that showed that they are useless then?

Was it the same study that showed masks were useless? People are still wearing them ?

No.

"Not all disabilities are visible. If you crack down hard on someone with an exemption then you're going to be the 'twat on the tube' when it goes viral

Then surely the person would explain they’re exempt and not get kicked off. I have an exempt family member and they have a card with a lanyard I think these should be compulsory for all exempt people.

So you’re forcing people to self identify as disabled then ?

Nice one

If it got me out of wearing the fucking things I'd glady do that. I don't get why you wouldn't. I'm considering making something up...

And this is why the people with genuine exemptions need to be able to have something to prove they’re genuine or they will get treated badly by someone assuming they’re an arsehole.

But they don't want to out themselves as disabled. They'd rather people think they were arseholes. I wear a mask but I'm still an arsehole. Funny old world innit?"

The issue here then is the stoma surrounding disability ... surely this is what has to be tackled rather that trying to hide it

Erm....... well I don’t know where to start with that ‘forcing someone to self identify as disabled’ well if you are disabled then you are disabled. It’s like saying me using a woman’s toilet is forcing me to identify as female. I just am. It depends if you see disability as something to hide I guess - I don’t so not really sure how to respond to that.

Yes we agree - you really don’t know where to start with that do you ?

“If you are disabled you are disabled”....Hmmm I think you might benefit from a little research before painting yourself into a corner "

Haha I don’t need to do any research on disability thanks .... just why people feel they have to hide it that’s what’s baffling me. I don’t live in a world where the disabled are preyed on I live in a world where people who need support get it. Makes me pity people who have this attitude and the people that feel they need to hide it’s just an awful way to live.

I agree, however does that mean we shouldn’t wear masks then?? People who park in disabled parking bays have to display a disability permit, not much difference is there "

Yes there is a big difference when using a disability permit the person driving the care may not be disabled, their passenger could be the disabled person, therefore the disabled person is not identified.

As for "shouldn't wear masks then" if you have a relevant disability and a mask does not seriously affect your breathing then you have the choice in law to wear a mask or not wear a mask, some people may find a mask affects them om a warm day but not on a cold day. It is up to them to make the decision.

Even when we do, we still get abuse and challenged.

Just tell them to fuck off.

I won't do that because I'm a decent human being.

I shouldnt be in that situation in the first place.

Copied from the government website. "

I work with people who struggle cognitively, are disorganised, poor memory, struggle with understanding the complexity of social situations and may outwardly be perceived as regular as the next person. They may grasp the concept of health, badges, cards and diseases in different ways to other people. A man got aggressive with 1 of them in public and would have proceded to assault him, despite his elderly mother trying to explain the crux of the situation. It was horrific and upsetting for them both and the aggressor only reluctantly backed down despite being informed of the victimised guys circumstances. If he'd been alone he would have struggled with the public or officials challenging him in an insensitive way and forgets what others think of simple things, so finding and providing proof, let alone explaining something to others, is an inappropriate demand against him.

Could you wear a face shield instead?

You didn't see the study that showed that they are useless then?

Was it the same study that showed masks were useless? People are still wearing them ?

No.

Widely reported.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/22/face-shields-ineffective-trapping-aerosols-japanese-supercomputer-coronavirus

Tbh, I have more interesting things in my life than reading reports on face guards in the guardian, thanks for letting me know though, I shall pass on the information to all the people I see wearing face guards.

I doubt that.

I will, I promise, how ever , as it’s so widely known it is possible the people wearing the face guards are doing it for a laugh , or just to wind you up

No no, you misread me.

No no, I definitely didn’t, when you next see someone wearing a face guard let them know about the Guardian report, educate them , otherwise they are just laughing at you from behind their useless face protector

You did. "

Let’s not play little games Clem, you can’t possibly know what I was thinking , your reply was ambiguous . Just make sure you keep spreading the word regarding face guards, it is your social duty we can’t have these people laughing in the face of the facts

And this will just get worse. Oh, and don't forget to report your neighbours.

Even when we do, we still get abuse and challenged.

Just tell them to fuck off.

I won't do that because I'm a decent human being.

I shouldnt be in that situation in the first place.

Copied from the government website.

Urgh this is heartbreaking ....... this kind of situation is the situation I was thinking about where a lanyard may help but then maybe not if people are still that disgusting as to abuse others."

Unfortunately like iv said wearing a lanyard doesn't stop this kind of behaviour unfortunately.

"I think people like this should be marked some how, then we could all identify them as a danger to our health.

I'm really surprised that nobody else has seen the similarity.

Yet we all wonder how it was allowed to happen

And this will just get worse. Oh, and don't forget to report your neighbours.

Lol - shows how much you know - Communists, socialists...left wing supporters of state sponsored terrorism. Even Tony basterd Blair and his phoney war on iraq came from the left. I’m no supporter of the Tory government, but don’t come bleating about Tory governments, when it’s left wing parties that have inflicted the most heinous world wide damage over the last century or so.

You obviously know very little about asthma, it can be nothing more than an annoyance or so severe the sufferer requires intravenous bronchodilators. It is like saying poor eyesight is not a disability but poor eyesight ranges for very mild to totally blind

Lorna - just read all this and I've decided. I'm going to make one of those massive sign boards you see crazy street preachers wearing, and I'm going to push up and down the High Street with the nature of my disability emblazoned in size 100 font (sans Serif for inclusivity, obvs).

Text of sign:

I am disabled, and apparently society says I have to label myself with how/why I am disabled. Once upon a time, a mummy and a daddy loved each other and the mummy got pregnant. However, her womb was prolapsed and as the baby grew, pressure was placed on the pelvic nerves and lumbosacral plexus (get a medical dictionary) and by the time she was 7 months pregnant, the mummy couldn't stand up or walk and had to live in bed until she gave birth. We'll skip a big bit of the story (the bit where the mummy was fobbed off and treated like shit by the medical professionals) and jump right to the end. Three and a half years after the baby was born, the mummy has permanent nerve damage which means the muscles in her hip, leg and foot (left side) don't work properly. That's how and why I'm disabled.

Shit, I think I might need a REALLY big sign board, or I might need to cut the font down to size 10, but then people will have to get within 2m to read it?!

OR maybe people could just take their big noses and stick 'em somewhere else?

To the poster who said she pitied people who feel the need to hide their disabilities, I hope the above explains why a bit. Why the fuck should people expect my life history just because they are nosy and want to know why "a healthy looking woman like you is in a wheelchair, poor thing"? Anyone who asks me why I use a chair on spec can go fuck themselves. It's not as simple (or as gory) as "I stepped on a landmine in Iraq" or "a shark ate my leg". No-one believes that being pregnant can leave you disabled and that's before we come to the story entitled "why my vagina and perineum needed mending - the other injuries caused by childbirth that I lived with for 18 years".

Maybe I'll write a four volume compendium

I think the bigger problem is those that are wearing masks are now failing to to respect the social distancing. Previously when you didnt need to wear a mask most people in the que for the till at a supermarket would keep their distance.

Now they are wearing a mask its like suddenly they feel they can be right behind you loading up the conveyer belt whist you keep your distance from the person still being served at the till.

Erm....... well I don’t know where to start with that ‘forcing someone to self identify as disabled’ well if you are disabled then you are disabled. It’s like saying me using a woman’s toilet is forcing me to identify as female. I just am. It depends if you see disability as something to hide I guess - I don’t so not really sure how to respond to that.

Yes we agree - you really don’t know where to start with that do you ?

“If you are disabled you are disabled”....Hmmm I think you might benefit from a little research before painting yourself into a corner

Soo you're calling claustrophobics disabled? Or people who may suffer with panic attacks? How do you suggest exposing these disease carriers to the wider public?

I don’t engage with you fullstop as you’re well ‘not my kind of person’ "

Liar, liar, pants on fire... you literally can't resist me. Xx

If a piece of cloth is effective for filtering out a virus then you don't have to worry about someone else not wearing one, yours will do the job. A cloth mask isn't ppe, if anyone is serious about mask wearing, then get something that can filter out a virus. If your worried about your eyes wear goggles aswell.

For those who are wearing a mask for the protection of others, why don't they get a good effective mask that will filter out a virus size particle. It does demonstrate how intolerant and nasty people do become to those who choose not to wear a piece of cloth on there face that a virus passes through very easily, surely if you choose to wear one you would get a mask that can actually filter a virus size particle out as opposed to a cloth mask that even dust which is a big particle would pass through.

Who's the ignorant/uneducated person, someone who wears a poor quality cloth one or someone who chooses not to based on facts.
