A lot of clubs were struggling pre Covid. Clubs below the premier league will now really struggle. The lower down the league’s you go the more they depend on gate receipts.

i agree the championship downwards are really going to struggle .. but surely some clubs in the prem will too as those massive stadiums must put some serious money in the clubs bank ...

True but all the premier league games are getting televised so they’re getting money from the broadcasting companies.

The prem is a reverse economy... Everything below that is at risk... Same applies to all businesses... Cut your cloth accordingly. I find it so bizarre to hear prem and fa whining about how they need gate receipts or govt support whilst in the same breath signing new players they know they can't afford to pay.

It covers a big chunk

The big clubs especially. The games are shown all around the world.

ok i did not realise that tv money was that big ..is that the same for all the prem clubs ..

if so and the big clubs are safe then i think that the big clubs should pay into a kitty for the clubs that are struggling ..maybe

The bigger clubs tends to get more of a slice as they tend to be on more (so more viwers)

The big money is in the champs league so the big 4 or 6 get even richer. Then there is advertising etc.

I think they are in talks now to offer some financial support.

I suspect it contributes more than the gate receipts but not really got a clue... Certainly this year it will. But in a period when clearly the economy is shrinking, I struggle to sympathise with players still demanding / being offered the huge sums they are. I don't resent them doing so well, just demanding the sums in ignorance of the empty stadia must give some of them pause...

I have to laugh at footballers and especially their managers. At the end of every game now they are slapping each others backs, shaking hands and hugging each other. Klopp was at it the other day and he was the one saying a few months ago how bad we English are and how good zee Germans are at social distancing.

What an absolute joke.

Just a load of Covidiots setting examples to other covidiots.

oh i do agree i think its time the top earners start helping ie non football staff getting made redundant + helping lower clubs ..but this is the problem with the rich the are so penny pinching this i know first hand with my job the richer they are the less they want to help

Big football clubs tend not to be massively altruistic. Like. Most businesses

A lot of footballers do a huge amount of charity stuff which is often not publicized.

I'm sure some do. Good for them. It's not so much the footballers more the clubs and the culture that it can carry on financially as if nothing is happening... And then moan at the govt for letting the national sport lay waste... When there are billions of pounds in the sport already. If someone were to offer me a huge amount of money... I don't think I'd turn it down and say... "no I don't want that much.. think of the community coaches you've just laid off"

But I would expect a ceo at the club to be thinking that before leaking stories to get govt support...

Nowa days, gate money only contributes around 5% of a premier league clubs income. Money from sky, and bt plus advertisements is most of their income now.. ths lower leagues are different as not on tv as much

Yes absolutely. I think football is unique as its become our national obsession... And also because of the extraordinary amount of money washing around at the top... Gareth bale 600k a week tax paid to sit out injured.. And yet there are discussions about clubs going under and can the public purse help out. That's where I'm saying there are anomalies. Kind of like sports direct taking money for furlough employees.

You forgot to mention the constant spitting on the pitch, can't be very hygienic. Perhaps they should all wear one of those "spit hoods" the police use...would be quite entertaining too
