They need to stop people bulk buying right from the off.

The fascination with stock piling toilet paper still blows my mind.

It's a breathing virus, not one that makes you empty the contents of your bowels!!

Dubai & Nottingham

Last time this happened I was in Asda and the pasta shelves were empty and a bit of commotion , a woman had a pallet and was telling people they could only have 2 in total each , not 2 pasta and 2 rice , but 2 of 1 or 1 of each. This woman at the front of the informal mad max food ration queue, eager to get her allowance of carbs , then asks what is the difference between pasta and rice

Made my day

I saw more vulnerable people with lanyards out and about today than I have in ages...

Guess people are also worried that the delivery slots will be all taken again so they are stocking up now

The way things are looking we'll all be on rations by February anyway, so I don't really blame people for stocking up on a few essentials. The people I resent are the ones who load their trollies with loo roll, pasta, flour etc. and leave nothing for everyone else.

"Why are they idiots?

Maybe they've learnt from last full lockdown

So they add to the problem even more by doing it themselves?.. Toilet paper are non perishables, but essential

If you think there's going to be another shortage, why not stock up?

I certainly won't apologise for stocking up an essential item for myself and my family

So its ok for you to stock up and fuck everyone else, but if folks go out without masks and say fuck everyone else, theyre selfish bastards .mmmmmmm

That's not the issue, but you keep looking left "

Course its a f÷@€?%& issue. Stocking up on hygeine stuff and everyone else can go dirty, is as unhealthy as non mask wearing. . Bet youd let a mother go without nappies so long as you have your 5 packs eh.

"They need to stop people bulk buying right from the off.

The fascination with stock piling toilet paper still blows my mind.

It's a breathing virus, not one that makes you empty the contents of your bowels!!

Actually it can give you the trots LOL, and is one of the lesser symptoms which some people can get. I think I had it back in early March and my first evening of it was a bad case of Delhi Belly. The I developed a cough which hung around for about a week.

If ever offered and Anti gen test I will take it.

I think you mean antibody test.

The anti gen one is the test you take to see if you have it right now."

Apologies for my stupidity but the trots is definitely a symptom of it.

"The supermarkets should be ordered to allow only 1 item they are causing the problem and happy to take the money "

I get the thinking behind that but during lockdown our neighbour did a lot of our shopping for us, she has 4 kids herself so when she could only buy 1 loaf of bread ect.. at a time it meant going to several shops and just a waste of time and energy.

Everyone should only buy what they need its that simple.

Whilst there are idiots out there who do this, there are also very valid reasons people buy regularly in such bulk.

For example my friend works as a coordinator for our local food bank.

More and more people are donating cash rather than food.

She went to a supermarket 2 days ago and brought 24 cans of soup, 24 cans of tomatoes, 12 long life milk, 16 packs of sanity towels and 2 trays of baby food for the food bank.

As she was in the queue for the tills a delightful young woman called her a selfish cunt that should be ashamed of herself.

(Copyed from the message she sent)

So just remember not everything is as it seems.

They buy them to sell on. A few months back, the store had completely sold out of TP but you could buy them from a guy's car in the car park opposite for twice the price. I am equally guilty - I've just ordered two cases of Talisker to see me through the hard times

There is no shortage whatsoever.

It’s idiots buying in bulk that break the daily sales trend, which means the computer system which generates the order from the shop to the warehouse won’t order enough as it’s based on trend sales. Not people stocking up.

Strangely enough the shops are bang on. Don’t panic buy! There’s ample out there.

Even if your are a Karen and do panic buy. It will just be replaced a day or two later. Until the next Karen panics and buys it all, and so on etc.

Just carry on and buy the usual.

Plenty of toilet roll and pasta (bought another two bags for a £1 yesterday) in my local Asda. Since I started living on my own in 2016 I’ve always bulk bought stuff, basically two of everything at least, mainly because I hate going to the supermarket.

It also allows me to use local greengrocers for my veg and fruit

You’ll always get people panicking or lazy sods like me who hate supermarkets

Not strictly true re dog eat dog world, the majority of people are good people who think of others and yes there are selfish people out there that would buy the last 20 toilet rolls and happily walk past the elderly, ill and mums with babies without a second thought.

You make your own choices in life and I'd rather not be on this planet if it meant living like this.

I doubt anyone has ever died because they didn't have 148 toilet rolls or 50kg of pasta.

Only reason for bulk buying imo is if you're buying for others who can't get out

Well in that case there is no problem as there is no shortage of sandpaper.

"Why are they idiots?

Maybe they've learnt from last full lockdown

All shops need to stop Idiots loading a trolley with any item stock pilling causes everyone problems.

Or

Maybe some need to smarten up, and realise we live in a dog eat dog World.

"If everyone just did their usual weekly shop there wouldn’t be shortages for anyone

Quite true, but we all know that won't happen...

. So we look after our own

Family first #

"

and then the number of people bulk buying increases, the shelves are a little emptier so more people think oh we know whats going to happen and the more people start bulk buying and the shelves are even emptier ... and you get how the cycle goes til the shelves are actually bare

if more of us would rise above it and take only what we need we could actually break the cycle

"It's fricking ridiculous. Food and bog roll didn't disappear in the last lockdown and even if we do get confined to barracks, we would still be able to go to bloody Sainsbury's, Asda etc, just like last time.

I'm afraid it did in my area. We couldn't get tinned good, pasta, the elusive toilet rolls, ready meals, fresh meat...."

for about a week at most ... the only reason for the shortage was the bulk buying... i could see our point if there was a supply issue and it was never expected to be replenished

Yes I talk from experience

My family before yours

WOW!!!!"

if you say me first you are selfish, if you say my family first it makes you nurturing

"Well it definately looks like the country is going to spend the next six months, isolating in the toilet shitting ourselves away. There, won't be much left of ourselves for the virus to attack. Who in this, world needs, to buy 15 x24 toilet roll packs as, I saw in one picture, yesterday. Lunacy at its very best

So just remember not everything is as it seems."

it would make way more sense for food banks to have a relationship with a local supermarket ... call up a few days before, let the shop order additional stock specifically for you, they can probably then pick and collate it from the delivery and hold it aside, saves the shelves going empty for other customers even for a few days, saves the food bank person time and hopefully abuse, the supermarket will be happy for regular bulk business and given its for charity you might even get some extra thrown in from their charity fund (when i worked for a supermarket we had a store budget for donating small raffle prizes etc)

Hastings

Is it about supply or logistics you can have stock but if you only have a fixed number of lorries and drivers you can't get A to B and it would not pay to fill a 40ton lorry with toilet paper then have a half empty lorry do wine or beer later in the week each load is balanced

"I'm sure that a lot of people are still using the pasta and toilet roll they stock piled last time around... "

The lady mentioned a few posts ago who asked what's the difference between pasta and rice ?

oh well perfect then. I'll leave my position on the nhs frontline and run to asda to stockpile essentials since apparently I'm not smart enough working 12 hour shifts back to back. Furthermore I'll just don't help anyone else only the ones I like and I'll start stockpiling all the medications I can find in my workplace and I won't share them with anyone else especially with people like you. Is that being smart to you? Lucky you we are not all as idiots and selfish as you are otherwise you'll probably be dead in the event of a real deadly virus.
