Problem is, how would you know anyone should be isolating? It's not as if there will be someone outside their house to check on them & if it was via mobile tracking, easy enough to leave it at home.

Having said that, a decent fine might help focus the mind of some.

They could double, triple or zero the fine because there's no way to enforce it, even the proposed wardens have no power of funds

Seems like another spout of hot air

For 2 weeks? The low waged probably only get £250 per week when working on zero hour contracts....how much does your business pay you per week?

It will be a criminal offence if the proposal goes through so it will be enforceable thats why they are introducing it.

Talking on your phone while driving is illegal but all I ever see are people talking on phones while driving.

The real punishment is when people who have ignored the law then pass on the virus to a vulnerable family member.

A lifetime of regret would be far worse than the threat of a fine

Someone was jailed in the isle of man for nipping to the shop on the way to isolate, they will appear in court next week to see what happens.

Unfortunately due to having a severe lack of police they wouldn't have enough resources to uphold this nationwide.

Perhaps it would be possible if the area was under lockdown and movement was easier to monitor but a city the size of London would be virtually impossible to oversee

Dfs and Galloway/Ayrshire.

I think we all know the increasing numbers are leading to a nationwide lockdown again.

Bearing in mind the numbers are running 10 days to a fortnight behind the infection rate, I just wish the politicians would actually show leadership and get on with it.

If they advertised the jobs as self employed checkers to call and check on a list of addresses...paid them 2 hundred quid for everyone they caught. How many do you think would snap the job up?

So prey tell why they can't enforce it?"

I was talking to a police officer the other day. They are having 8 to 12 months delays in getting cases to court.

So I hope you’re patient waiting for those courts to enforce any fines.

well i guess that works a bit like human rights... they are kinda null and void if the purpose of the action is to remove someone elses ... for example its not your human right to go out and murder people (not saying spreading covid is direct murder just highlighting an example of where your rights dont always apply)

I'd prefer to just give people the proper income protection for when they are expected to isolate. Fines may be needex but we sjipped the first step of giving people security, which is our primary goal for self and family.

pensioners that still have housing costs earning only £140 a week don’t exist.. either you've already paid off your mortgage and don't have that lifestyle cost that a younger group are expected to have or its topped up with pension credits , council tax exemption, housing benefit, cold weather payments etc

Half of you lot are talking some absolute batshit nonsense. Sort yourselves out for crying out loud.

Yes, this is fucking nonsense. I ain’t welcoming our new Covid overlords with glee, it’s making my life a misery. However, here’re some conveniently succinct facts for you. Have a read and you may learn something.

There is currently no vaccine.

This is a virus, therefore it can mutate, thus making herd-immunity and vaccine production incredibly tricky.

Being told to stay at home for two weeks if you show symptoms is not an infringement on your human rights. To the person that suggested it is, pull your head out of your arse you absolute weapon. It’s like being told you shouldn’t go to work when you have the flu - so you don’t pass it on. I cannot believe I’m feeling the need to state this. Use your brain and have some common fucking decency.

Physically tracking and tagging people is 1) immoral, 2) oppressive 3) impractical 4) practically logistically impossible 5) a privacy and data security nightmare and 6) a fucking stupid suggestion.

There have been wild contradictions handed to the public in the form of ridiculously ambiguous guidelines from the government. This has been nothing short of an absolute top-down disaster piece of mismanagement, so I’m wholly unsurprised that people are confused.

“Eat out to help out” followed by “oh shit, it’s spreading” could’ve been predicted by sources ranging from my phone’s autocomplete to an infant school child.

The question of “can I go there?” can almost be rewritten as “does that place have a card machine?”

And Barnard Bastard Castle.

Also, for those arguing “oh this fine thing isn’t enforceable” vs “oh yes it is”, first off, it isn’t panto season yet (oh no it isn’t, nor is it behind you) so calm down. Secondly, surely you’re adults and can understand nuanced conversation, but just in case you missed it, here it is: Yes, technically, to the letter of the law it is enforceable. Practically, it isn’t. To reference some slightly dated but excruciatingly relevant pop culture, you’ve seen the film V For Vendetta, right? If not, go watch it. Whilst you’re at it, watch Hamilton the musical. It’s exceptional and might cheer you up a tad.

And before any of you lot start twitching your curtains and go grassing up your neighbours, get a fucking life, widen your view and see where the problems in the world are. Whilst you’re distracted by whether or not Steve is only dropping groceries off to his great auntie Mavis that lives alone (and hasn’t seen another soul since March) or if he’s actually gone in for a cup of tea and a chat, what you’re actually missing is what is right before your eyes in parliament. This government are a fucking calamitous danger to everyone. Keep your eyes on them and wise up.

Also, yes. I have read this back before posting it and make absolutely no apologies for however sanctimonious this may have come across; I’m sick and tired (if you’ll excuse the turn of phrase) of people being fucking dense. If you want an argument, take it up with my inbox and I’ll get back to you in 5-7 working days or something.

Wear a mask, don’t be a dick, and don’t go dobbing your neighbours in like a sad-act.

Because a pensioner still has their income but the person that can't go to work gets nothing.

And yet I had to isolate as I'd been identified as a close contact but turned out the persons test was negative so we'd isolated for no reason. Maybe they should sort the testing out first before starting this.

It would appear to me that this virus is unstoppable in terms of infection. People are going to get it regardless at some point. & it will spread regardless of a lockdown or a fine. Etc etc.

Slowing its rate of spread is the goal but every time the country opens up, it will return. The flu vaccine ONLY provides a degree of protection - still people suffer & die. Any C19 vaccine should it come will only afford similar protection. So in the end it’s a lottery. Do we shit down the world ? Destroy businesses, lives, collapse the economy. The cure is now more dangerous than the decease.

The big question would be proving in court that you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for covid 19....whats to stop someone who tests giving a list of people they say that theyve been in close contact with even if they haven't out of spite ? how can it be proven you was in close contact ? ? Unless your on an aircraft which has a proven method of showing your in close contact. If your on a bus or train how do they prove it ? Its supposedly in excess of 15 minutes at a distance of approx 1m or in a confined space ie the same room...if there is cctv it could possibly be proven. But highly unlikely. So if you contest the fine or isolation in courts as is your right in the UK. then its highly unlikely that the prosecution could win..as 90% of cases would be on heresay as in one person's word against another in court it needs to beyond reasonable doubt..more big brother trying to control the people and setting in place laws that probably won't be repealled even when covid is over...

"Most of you would do really well in the Hitler Yourh I often wonder if most of you are still furloughed sitting at home with nothing to do .... nothing better to do than scaremongering .. and before anyone starts spouting off I Know 6 people who had it ... was nothing worse than a head cold and yes people die but I’m afraid we are all dying ... 99 per cent of us recover from it ....

Having seen many cases it's nothing like a head cold lol . I think they may have something different rather than covid

No they tested positive all were back in work in a week !!!

That's obviously not covid as I even on the middle of this with patients and families of patients and have not seen anyone fit enough ( or allowed) back to work . That's a cold you are getting confused.

Why don’t you read what I say !!!! They aeee tested positive !!!! Back to work in NHS after a week !!!!

Simply because it's not true. You know it and I know it . A week off with a head cold is excessive though lol"

About 70% accurate in March. But no way would they be allowed back after a couple of days to potentially kill their patients .

This is a deadly disease unfortunately not a cold. As previously advise them to stay safe as I reckon they could not have possibly had it ?

"Half of you lot are talking some absolute batshit nonsense.

Talking on your phone while driving is illegal but all I ever see are people talking on phones while driving.

The hint is in the minimum £1000 fines...believe me that will make it enforceable...

By who though? "

Exactly this, not enough people to enforce it anyway.....being fined for having more than six in a group.......now this......where are these people who are going to enforce this.

Laughable. Who's going to police it? I hate to admit it but we do need more of a deterant as some people just aren't getting it and are being incredibly selfish.

Someone I know had symptoms and all family did and still carried on working. Only when children were sent from school did they order tests, and still not one day missed from work, or isolation.

Me, I'd enjoy the two weeks off, if I couldn't get local test booked.

But people on low pay will get a lump sum of £500 to encourage isolation "

Some shopfloor workers who work where I work, some of which earn about 20.00 above the amount of being able to claim any benefits are still hardly going to isolate as they wouldn't be entitled to this, people who earn a decent wage will still not be able to do this as they cant afford to loose two weeks wages......if we want them to isolate then unless we pay them the full amount of what they would loose, then they would still struggle to do the right thing....their right thing is to them to be able to put a roof over their childrens head and feed them, and pay their Bill's.

By who though?

Coppers..wardens...council officials?

I dont know who will get the cash...but whoever's does will be doing the checks.

It's dead easy if you've been told to isolate you will go on a list...and if your not home when they knock on your door...

Unfortunately due to having a severe lack of police they wouldn't have enough resources to uphold this nationwide.

Perhaps it would be possible if the area was under lockdown and movement was easier to monitor but a city the size of London would be virtually impossible to oversee

If they advertised the jobs as self employed checkers to call and check on a list of addresses...paid them 2 hundred quid for everyone they caught. How many do you think would snap the job up?

Not sure if you can get blood out of a stone though, great idea but most who don't follow the law would sooner take some jail time than pay a fine"

"Low wage earners get £500. Pensioners get nothing. How is that fair when a state pension is less than half of a 40 minimum wage

Why would a pensioner want to break isolation and go out to spread it?

For the same reason a none pensioner would

id assume the point is to stop people dodging isolation because they need to leave the house to make a wage

you dont have to leave the house to collect a pension do you?

But if a pensioner is expected to live on £140 a week why can’t other groups be expected to live on the same amount?"

I'll take it your asking for a friend after having a look at you....its about people not going to work and I would have thought your pensioner friend will have retired...

'Just 20% of those reporting symptoms in England fully self-isolate at home for the required two weeks, the government's scientific advisers known as SAGE found at the end of August.' ASTONISHING !!!

Add to the fact that people are willingly giving false information or avoiding contact with Track and Trace when they call . . .

While I think 10K is a little excessive . . .

Do you see any of this happening in Sweden atm? No. Do you see Swedens infection rates and death rates going up no. They represent what a civilised country is.

I’m ok to travel today to the country today, but it’s put on the quarantine list next week - whilst I’m on holiday.

Both me and my partner would have to isolate for 2 weeks, both unpaid as our employers will not foot the bill and we can’t work from home.

Lost income is over £2k net

That’s a lot of money to lose through the government imposing a quarantine during a holiday.

We would be in to the overdraft, we’d manage, but many other people would be up shit creek with this load of cock and balls.

For me if you are safe to travel out, you should be safe to travel back, or have your wages protected 100%

Not everyone gets company sick pay at 100% for being off sick.

Not everyone gets company sick pay for being contacted by track & trace, some employers refuse to pay.

Not everyone can afford 2 weeks off work unpaid

I can understand why people are breaching the rules - they are trying to survive.

a weeks annual leave for rest and relaxation at no point specifies you must leave the country... that is entirely your choice and responsibility for any consequence cant/ shouldn’t be pinned on the govt or your employer

So you have a option of a overdraft..many low paid dont.

If you dont self isolate you will pay that 2k in fines.

I just dont understand why someone would go in their work place to spread this with the result of possibly killing others.

It's a carrot and stick to try and stop the spread.

They are going to collect all those bits of paper with false names on that pubs and clubs collect

Makes the people sound more like dicks than the government though doesn't it?

Why on earth give a false name ?? That's just crazy to try to avoid something that's protecting all our health. If that happens we will never get our of lockdown "

If the papers were not on public display, maybe people would feel more secure about their details being left, but gdpr was brought in to protect peoples data, which we were all for, so why would people leave their numbers out in full view now.

At least you would be able to get home. They could just cancel all flights and leave you abroad. Pretty sure that would cost you more overall.

Everyone wants and deserves a holiday but during a pandemic why take the risk when you know the financial implications if you travel?

I’m not saying I would breach the rules for 1 minute,

But I can understand why some people would choose to.

2 weeks with no pay or keep your mouth shut is a hell of a decision for many working class families

I for one will be assessing my own risk and those around me and will behave accordingly. I won't have the government dictating to me what I can or can't do.

And that's like saying that being told to do no more than 70mph on a Motorway is how the Third Reich started. 'Oh Hell my freedom to drive at 4 billion miles and hour is taking all the freedom I have !!!!'

Geezus the only people here in any form of conspiracy are those shouting conspiracy. You really need to get grip of yourselves and notice that currently this World isn't just about how inconvenient it is to your lifestyle !

"

I don't believe in conspiraces at all.I was simply highlighting the divided nature of our fellow country men and how this thread highlights just how venomously we turn on each other. That's exactly how war and genocides have started throughout history. I'm highlighting it's sad that we in the UK in 2020 can so easily slip into those mindsets against each other. It's the first step of a slippery slope.

This country is completed divided down the middle on this issue. You have the mainstream media on one side. You also have eminent scientists falling down on both sides of the arguement. So to say the other side are just selfish mindless conspiracy driven nutters says a great deal.

I'll respect anybody regardless of where they stand on the issue of how to deal with covid as long as that comes from a balanced an informed choice by exploring the science on both sides of the argument.

Having seen many cases it's nothing like a head cold lol . I think they may have something different rather than covid

No they tested positive all were back in work in a week !!!"

Make them aware that you are aware by saying so. And asking how are they protecting your data. They should be very keen to prove it to you if they are honest.

Not all independently owned hospitality business owners are up to speed with GDPR, employment law or H&S.

The clip board and pen is the cheapest option of meeting the t&t requirement, and after being locked down for several months they can’t afford to subscribe to an app-based system in the same way that the big businesses (Marstons, spoons etc) have in place.

Whilst GDPR is important, for years we have all regularly given our a phone number when booking a table in a restaurant.

Why now is it such a big deal?

When we booked a table and left numbers prior to covid, it was not left in full view of everybody, on a table for everybody to fill in themselves and view.

Have used the apps when I have been in places that have them though...so it's MY CHOICE to now only leave details when asked and they are kept private.

Valid points, however...

The government are imposing a quarantine on those who travelled when it was “safe” to do so.

The point that people choose to travel - what if the holiday was booked before Covid kicked off?

Do you not go on the holiday that’s cost you £3k in January, with no right to a refund from insurance?

In short, applying a quarantine on those that have already left the country for a destination that was safe at the time is completely and utterly unfair and unreasonable.

Protection of earnings should be there for them.

We’ve managed it for the thousands that have been furloughed, but can’t manage it for the hard working front-line ICU nurse who jets off for a week of r&r in the sun.

Come on

Why wouldn't you have any right to a refund? If you pay for something you don't get for whatever reason then you are entitled to a refund, never pay for a holiday using cash if you use a credit card you can do a chargeback so that you are covered.

Spot-on. And if you can . . . Golden Rule of Consumerism - Anything you can't afford to lose and can be cancelled or not given by the Seller, then pay by Credit Card, Chargeback will sort it for you. Very Quickly too.

You can’t claim for a holiday you choose not to go on unless it’s to a destination that is deemed unsafe to travel to by the Foreign Office.

Credit card or cash, if you book it and it’s safe to fly, you either use it or lose it.

I and quite a few other have been sick to death of the governments guidance/rules without any policing of bugger all.

I have called this government and still think they on the whole have made a right hash of covid...but on this one I think they have got it spot on as it looks out for the ones who cant isolate for economically reasons.

Yeah it will inconvenience quite a few...but they should not even be contemplating going to work to spread a deadly virus.

Anyhow I'm off out now so I thought I'd post this now...and if anyone wants to continue the debate...please feel free to start a follow on thread
