On bbc news East anglia University are funding themselves to have their students sars-cov-2 tested and processed before they start university

Yea. That's brilliant.

Quite a few Universities are offering 24 hours on-site testing if you are showing symptoms also. When you go to Uni you are asked to register with local GP Services too.

All I am saying is schools opening started this spike

University's opening is only going to make it worse.

It doesn't matter how careful they are it's going to sky rocket.

A friends Daughter told me that they can self-isolate and still study on Campus if they are resident.

My uni has gone online, for my course anyway. It does seem a risk having lockdowns but opening unis.

Good on East Anglia.

Depends on the uni, though; not all are campus sites! In city universities, 2/3 students don't live on campus and many use public transport to travel in. Hard to impose isolation on those young people.

That is true and hopefully they will receive support from their own universities in what restrictions they decide to impose on their students

Two reasons I think you're wrong:

Numbers started rising before Sept 1, I believe (and many schools in England didn't open fully until the second week of Sept).

Thurs (stats) last week showed highest infection rate in ages 17-21.

As a student I've been in and substantial changes have been made, with many areas including the library, requiring advance booking, large distances between people, thorough cleaning and breaks before areas allowed to be used again. Accommodation and uni transport is similarly controlled and students fixed into support and study bubbles. Class sizes shrunk and a substantial teaching and interaction volume is online. Private accommodation is the weak link, as are nightlife venues. Some of the measures will impose mindset changes on returning students but I wait to see how this semester pans out. All the messages I've had with others over the summer has been very seriously focused on wanting to behave and make sure that everyone does, they've all shown a highly responsible attitude, though this is my group of friends, who are obviously not a random sample, mostly lads.

Part of the risk is them bringing the virus from their younger brothers and sisters, who may have got it at school recently.

Time will only tell if opening schools has exacerbated the problem.
