The virus can't get you in London. Didn't you know that, despite having a very densely populated capital, the virus knows to leave well alone.

I've noticed this too op. When the virus first hit the UK london was hit first and hardest, and loads of reports on why london had a high number of cases compared to the rest of the country. Now though its seems those reasons have disappeared. I can't help but think its a bit strange. Can you imagine them putting London or parts of London in lockdown. No, me neither.

The virus will also leave you alone if you work in offices or attend a school. Oh also if you play dodgeball or shoot grouse.

The Wirral is NOT in Cheshire. Yes, the postcodes changed maybe 30 years ago from L to CH but that was simply a decision by the post office because of changes to sorting offices or something like that.

Wiki:

"The Metropolitan Borough of Wirral is a metropolitan borough of Merseyside, in North West England. It has a population of 321,238, and encompasses 60 square miles of the northern part of the Wirral Peninsula. Major settlements include Birkenhead, Wallasey, Bebington, Heswall, Hoylake and West Kirby"

I’ve just been watching the parliamentary select committee meeting about Covid from earlier today.

It’s interesting that as high as the number of positive tests Bolton has had for the last couple of weeks, and with a test positive rate of 11% the Bolton n.h.s trust only has 2 Covid patients.

Nationally hospitalisations appear to be rising but if the supposedly worse hit town in the country isn’t it makes you wonder are we missing something by concentrating on positive tests.

I'm going to install a cash register in my home, invite several groups of 6 to socialise in different rooms of my house, thus maintaining social distancing between those groups then the virus can't get us as it understands these rules. Snacks available, bring a bottle. (admin, this isn't a real meet request)

Its because the virus has run its course in London and fizzled out, its now doing the same up North.

It does seem somewhat suspicious to me that the biggest, most densely packed city, full of people flouting the rules isn’t seeing a significant spike like other cities. Either the virus has already done its worst there or the government are keen to keep the economic hub of the UK open for business.

That said, I did read that London may be heading towards local lockdown status, as well as Leeds and Liverpool, so who knows?

This...

Most people I know are still making efforts to slow the spread of the virus... Stronger together.

How big are the chips on your shoulders up there?

Though I do agree London has lower infection rates and that is puzzling.... But no reason to imagine it is a conspiracy.

It could of course be that the huge number of people who used to commute in and out of London on a daily basis are still working from home?

As much as London is a massive metropolis of 8 million people its numbers are massively boosted by the people who travel in and out of it for work and foreign travel.

It could be as simple as not as many people moving about means fewer infections.

The people I know that live in London are mostly keeping to their square mile in everyday life, most of us don’t have family or friends nearby so we don’t have that added social possible infection scenario.

The offices are mostly empty or on a rota’d skeleton staff. The pubs in my area are open if you go in for food, it’s not a rock up and have a pint and stay there all night.

Why we have lower infection rates, who knows

London had a 13-20% infection rate previously, so assuming that there is some immunity built up, the infection rate needs to be higher compared to the rest of the country for it to spread as quickly in London again.

Could it be that London (and home counties) people, in general, work in offices and with the advent of remote working, don't have to travel? In other parts of the country, perhaps people have to go and actually make things in factories and sweatshops, thus having to travel, work in buildings to make a living?

Or is that a Champagne Charley vs Flat Cap and whippet stereotype? I suspect so.

According to the BBC's local information, my local council area is not showing an increase in cases whereas previously there was a decrease. But I'm personally worried about the young innocently passing on their bugs to, shall we say, those not in the first flush of youth?

Looks like no more nookie this year. Sigh!

I have to disagree. I was in London last week and very impressed with people wearing masks. The tube was not busy at all and people sticking to social diastancing. Here in the North not so. Families of 6 or more not one wearing masks. Young teenagers 6 or 7 or more congregating and no masks. People walking in shops.no masks.sorry but we need educating here in the North. Its a nah its not gonna get us. Err lockdown I think it is

We’re just better at washing our hands down south.

Or the rest of the country is relying on us earning and spending our money at the moment to keep things ticking over. Once the North is back up and running properly they’ll probably start locking the south down.
