"so with all the new news looking kind of bleak and all my work related stuff looking bleaker everyday this week are we heading into the perfect storm or is it just going to not be as big as they are making out ... bigger than the first wave yes or no ... me well ive a feeling this winter is going to be bad but with a much weaker strain ... i dont think dealths will be anywhere near as high but the amount of people who are going to be home sick will be very challenging indeed ..well thats my take whats yours ?? keep it friendly " Crystal ball at the ready... I'm fearing the worst. It seems the divide of those who follow the simple hygiene and distancing and those who don't are getting greater... And having a larger impact on the rest of us. Being evidenced with higher community infection rates. So like you, I suspect we will be in for a much much higher community infection rate. The bigger unknowns are the consequences of those infections. And it's long term consequences too. Which i suspect is an ugly beast hiding under the bed.

"the r rate being above one is the main worry now .... i so hope its a weaker virus than the first time around" well it's seems blatantly obvious too me and many others it is because the hospitalisations and death rates falling, so surely that suggests it is especially with infections 'rising?

" I think it's down to the age range of who is getting infected at the moment. Last time as we all know it went through the care homes. Now the older people and care providers are being more careful....but I think in coming months it may well spill over from the younger people who are more infected atm...I hope I'm wrong though.

"We don't think covid is any weaker than it was, the main difference is our health service now has far more understanding of it and has a number of therapies that can reduce its effect to some extent. The main worry is still the initial worry that is the number of cases rises too much the NHS will be overwhelmed. The is possibly a bigger worry than earlier in the year because people will be less likely to obey a lockdown now." but the hospitalisations are falling and no sign of rising??? the NHS are a million miles away from being overwhelmed.

The lag for hospitalisations is about 2 or 3 weeks, the death rate lag is around 4 to 6. The infection rate has risen in the last week or so. We will only be seeing the start of the effects of increased infection, which we maybe as the death rates although still very low are creeping up. As pointed out the virus hasn't got weaker, its just the type of people it is infecting at the moment has changed.

" “...... well it's seems blatantly obvious....” ———————— The more obvious point is that the rise in infections is happening among the under 40s who are, and have been less likely to be hospitalised or die from it. There may be some suggestion that the virus is weakening, but to date there is no conclusive evidence to support that suggestion.

" Hang on about it not being overwhelmed. What you need to take into account is the backlog of routine operations we still have....so I would say it was overwhelming earlier in the year and think it still is as a service now. So maybe best not to tempt fate and take any chances just yet though with winter just around the corner eh?
