Between 10pm and 5am.

Do you think it would ever happen?

Would it be a good idea?

I think it’s appalling that we need it - so many idiots out there thinking the rules don’t apply to them makes it almost inevitable I feel.

I'm sure people would still break the rules even if there was a curfew, alot of people have forgotten why the restrictions are important

It could be implemented, as people with a valid reason to be out during curfew hours would be small. Is it the best approach? Probably not - I'm guessing it's seen as them showing that they are doing something but it won't impact business or the economy too much.

Follow the money.,

How would it be enforced? Police and army?

I'd like to see how that plays out on the streets of west belfast, bogside derry, fermannagh & south tyrone, south armagh...etc....

Curfew would stop the youth partying and not social distancing through the night... so they will just go out and get on a few hours earlier

No. It would just create more unnecessary fear and panic plus it would be damaging to the economy and stretch the police even further.

People can't even keep to the rules at the moment. A curfew would be the same.

It's not the time people need restricting, it's the amount of places and people they interact with.

That said the way this year has panned out, and the mind blowing descions made in this country so far, nothing would shock me now.

Just a simple way of preparing people to accept it.

The problem with much of the way government ensues with various restrictions is that there is so much inconsistencies.

How would a curfew be enforced when they can’t even enforce mask wearing in shops. Just not enough police to cope with that kind of thing.

We recently got stuck on the M1 going only one junction a major crash and it took us three hours to do six miles would we of been fined for being out after 10pm. What is the next crazy solution they will come up with.

They would enforce by going after the businesses that stay open. Threatening to cancel licenses etc. Once all the businesses close at 10pm most people would just go home.

Only 2 police officers on duty in my area lucky if theres 6 in 3 areas as rural as examples.

Add in routine accidents n thefts .. we then have no local officers..local town on limited too so rarely cover..

Add in a domestic case (not that they act on that well either at worse mercia force)then theres no officers.

Good luck enforcing...not enough police here to do basics

Well the government threatened fines before, didn't follow it through and now we're pretty much sliding back to square one.

They don't really have anywhere to go but enforce it this time and it seems like they've recently been practicing with illegal raves and £10,000 fines

£10,000 fines based on a “law” rushed through on the Friday before the Anti lockdown protests on the Saturday. Nothing suspicious about that?!?

Boris Johnson suddenly emerges from his badger hole to erm and er his way through a new legality regarding our actual freedom, and people on here are baying for harsher circumstances and harsher penalties. It’s the reaction of the people that I find the most shocking.

A curfew is non workable think of all the staff that do not finish till after 11pm , what about night workers going to work, not to mention truck drivers who deliver the stock that fills your supermarket shelves most of that is done at night. Last time i looked we are not in a dictatorship state a curfew in the UK think a massive riot

They way I see it government had 3 options,

1) government does nothing lots of people die government gets sack

2) government imposes a meaningful hard lockdown stops the spread but destroyed the economy, people protest, people die, government gets sack

3) government tries to use a range of measures in a bid to save lives but also maintain economic activity Thick as pig shit people look at each rule in isolation rather than see the collective impact... they decide its nonsense because they are too dim to see past their own noses... compliance becomes poor, the virus spreads, people die, maybe the government convince enough voters they tried and are able to hold on to power when it’s all over.

Tell me, what would your solution have been?

"

Tell me, what would your solution have been?"

To stop dithering about, pissing in the wind and generally falling into the 'do something' trap. Sometimes there really is nothing sensible you can do, that's the time when you should really do.... nothing.

I have said it before and will say it again. Lockdown to solve an immediate crisis, yes - sensible, effective and correct. Lockdown to 'control the virus' long term, no - stupid, pointless, unworkable and ultimately useless.

Why were we not evaluating rapid tests 3 months ago? Why were we not increasing lab capacity over summer so we'd have enough in winter? Why has the ONLY response been restrictions on civil liberties? Where's the massive investment in healthcare, in science, in testing? Oh, wait, we spent all of the money on furlogh....

"Well the government threatened fines before, didn't follow it through and now we're pretty much sliding back to square one.

They don't really have anywhere to go but enforce it this time and it seems like they've recently been practicing with illegal raves and £10,000 fines

£10,000 fines based on a “law” rushed through on the Friday before the Anti lockdown protests on the Saturday. Nothing suspicious about that?

"

Where did I mention suspicious?

Nowhere.

We are on the brink of something so big we won't believe it's happening.

Technology is at the stage where a persons whereabouts canbe precisely mapped. It's been used on tracking terrorists.

The next stage chipping people first on voluntary basis with incentives to cause a snowball effect so as many people opt for it.

Then go compulsary.

Tell me, what would your solution have been?

"

The 6 thing could backfire, the way GMB have explained it, is, the 6 can come from anywhere, which basically blows up the bubble theory

As a example on this site if you live alone you could organise a meeting with 5 folks, or if you are a couple with 4 others for a 'social' get-together

Up til now I was only allowed to invite one person indoors or a couple from the same house. Now I can have people from five different households inside. It doesn't make sense to me as surely it's more risky than the previous rule.

I am curious, how many deaths would be required before you could be convinced it isn’t all bull? We have seen similar deaths to a bad flu year but a) we have only really had 6 months of Covid circulating b) we have had lockdowns, masks and widespread testing, measures that have greatly reduced the number of people infected and the numbers who would otherwise have died. But it’s all a load of bull .

Except where the household consists of more than 6 persons or the "support bubble" would cause that number to be exceeded.

e.g. grandparents can meet a family of mother and father and four children as part of their support bubble.

The government is looking at imposing a nationwide curfew in the coming days in a bid to control the rise of the coronavirus infection rate.

Sources at Number 10 have confirmed that ministers are in discussions today about imposing a night-time lockdown from 10pm to 5am.

It could be another blow for many hospitality businesses which are only now getting back on their feet.

This is an extract from the story I read in my local paper, hence my post.

I don't think this is true. The couple with 4 children could only have formed a support bubble with a person who lives alone so they couldn't form a bubble with both grandparents. Under the new rules on Monday they still couldn't all meet together.

Same as a single parent if one of the children is over 18 you don't qualify either.

Apparently the virus can only survive 48-72hrs outside the body.

The advice for those infected was to bag all such waste and hold it for a week before disposal, by which time it has become safe.

Except as with everything else, the general public don’t give a shit, and the message is lost in all the bluster and bullshit from Boris and Handjob.

Basically unless you're household or support bubble already exceeds 6(in which case no one else is allowed in the house) you can only meet up with or have over a total of 6 people including yourself/household.
