I’m am down with a cough and cold atm, I’ve took the day off work. I am pretty sure it is not COVID but my companies policy states if I am off with suspected COVID then if I book a test I will be paid in full for my time off wether the results are positive or negative... should I or shouldn’t I?

Yes you should because most companies won't allow you back into work until uve been given the all clear ... you will get paid !

That is a problem. I've heard of people being offered appointments 400 miles away or that require a ferry trip.

i basically went thru the same thing... i was going to book one (newcastle)... nearest available testing centre... Carlisle! 70 miles away...

if you definately think it is a cold and not covid (if you are sneezing your head off it is NOT covid) then most employers will allow you to self cert for up to 7 days!

if you do think it could be covid right up 111 and ask them... if they advise you to take a test then do!!!

Nearest test centre with availability was 156 miles away... keep refreshing your page and more sites will come up, prob in the evening. I got one 10 miles away in the end.

Take tissues with you. You need one, yet they don't provide one in the pack.

As far as I know there are several in Birmingham. There was (still is as far as I know) one by j6 M5 Worcester.

Maybe they had already filled slots the day you applied?

If you have symptoms...apply again. One problem is too many without symptoms are booking tests for bants.

I could have had a test today 20 miles away in Stafford and with the benefit of hindsight I wish I took it now.

I have a cold and the odd cough. My chest and back feel warm to touch but I have no thermometer to see if I have a fever or not. I do feel very lethargic and drowsy too. I’m not sure now I might go to work in the morning, we have our temperature take at the door so if I’m not coughing my guts up or losing my sense of smell and have no temp I will go through that door Into the joys of work

Matt Hancock said today the problems with testing sites is people without symptoms are going for tests because their work said to go /friends have it / someone at their work or local pub has it.

There isnt enough labs testing to keep up with demand. They can do the tests easily at the sites but can’t get them processed .

The advice is to only go if you are told by your doctor or 111 or if you have a temperature / no taste/ persistent cough

It’s great advice but morally everyone has a duty to keep the R down for the vulnerable people out there. Some people are asymptomatic, I think close to a third of positive tests.

Looks like the gov are using all there common sense again lol

It is a joke my sister lives one the Isle of Wight and doesn't drive.

She was told a home test kit wasn't available. Could someone pick her up and take to Portsmouth!

this was a fair few weeks ago though.

She did get a kit in the post and it was negative.

One of the main symptoms is a persistent cough, described further as 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hrs, I’ve had a few more than 3.

Negative side, company have to pay me for not working.

Positive side, I am doing what is right for vulnerable people and doing my bit to keep the r down

Get your work to pay private. £150 roughly and Available in most big cities . They will get their answers and you don’t have to worry about traveling miles or locating a test site that has spaces . Also saves a space for someone that might have it but not be able to afford a private test .

The real problem is the governments handling and organisation of this. Everybody should be getting tested because people can not be showing symptoms and spread the thing to people who could die from it.

I may or may not have it but so might everyone else being tested. I may have already had it and been asymptomatic. I don’t know, nobody knows until they have been tested for the virus or the antibodies.

posts like this annoy me , the capacity number is the capacity number ... they are trying to increase it all the time but they have expressly said in the meantime please dont book if you dont need so we can get the tests to the people who do need ... being “full of the cold” with a chesty cough that requires covonia is exactly what you just said - full of the cold ... if you even remotely thought you actually had covid you wouldn't have said bugger it ill just turn up at work tomorrow and if my temperature isn't high ill go in... but you want paid for some time off so you've used up a slot anyway and wonder why when many people are doing the same as you the testing system is overwhelmed ... must be the governments fault
