Exactly.

People have forgotten that even with group gatherings unless it is members of your household or your support bubble we still should be social distancing.

Well since high class hookers are billable to the taxpayer as "Computer lessons" I guess it is considered a "work activity".

I seems to me that it's easy to scapegoat students, which is basically what Monday is all about, when it's actually matt Hancock with blood on his hands, most folks who died was directly linked to the cov+carehome policy.

This can not carry on the world can not stop because of a virus we must all be able to go to school work travel leisure etc , if we do not stop this permanent soft lockdown we will totally destroy our economy beyond repair .. the number of positive cases may be rising but the number of deaths is now extremely low, last 24 hours it's less than 20

. Don’t see that happening. The country can simply no longer afford to go on destroying jobs and businesses or paying them to stay closed. We’ve spent thousands of millions of pounds and all it’s done is delay the inevitable.

Agree the world must go on

Everyone blaming younger people but forgetting the ones who have taken their sumer holidays to infected countries

Hospitals still on alert for the 2nd wave so serious illnesses are not being taken care of as quick as they should so people with a serous condition contracting civid are more likely to become seriously worse

Government don't know arse from elbow so implement rulings that will never go away they need to recouope furlough money from somewhere so fines will be issued

Hmmm the one I work in has. And its not just the lessons as such there is a massive service system to support a uni, far beyond the teaching that requires an awful lot of unavoidable mingling.

We need to adapt, not just pretend nothing is happening. Some of us have been figuring out how to adapt all along.

Whether or not the government closes things down, pubs, restaurants, holidays, swinging (yeah I said it), and all sorts of other things are risks which can't really be justified given the health crisis.

The risks rise as winter comes. The fact that the vulnerable have been able to shield so far has stopped this being worse.

9000 people a day go through the turnstiles at Alton Towers every single day 11000 at Thorpe Park. Trafford Center has a daily footfall of 18000 people . . . it's not how many people there are, it's how they behave.

I dont think they will close.

It appears that when they track and trace people are getting it from gatherings in peoples home rather than out and about.

The majority of cases at the moment are among young people, who usually only have mild symptoms. As these cases rise, the virus will spread through he community into older people and deaths will begin to rise again.

If we completely ignored the virus and went about our lives as normal, the economy would still suffer, because a lot of the workforce would become ill and therefore unable to work, and we would also have tens of thousands of extra deaths too.

all this covid has been blown out of proportion massively by the press and goverments.

7.8 billion people in the world, 1% of the population is 78millions number of death less than 900k (sad but nothing new, flu and other illness kill a lot of people). so not even 0.1% of the world population

We can't leave in fear which is exactly what they tell you.

Why do we need the government to tell us how many people we are allowed to socialise with? Even though there is no limit on how many co-workers a person can have around them?

Why do people feel the need to be infantilised and babysat by the government instead of using their own common sense and good judgement?

Where did the six people rule come from? Why not eight? Ten? Four? Is this another number plucked from thin air?

How are the fines going to work? In a group of eight will they all be fined? Only two? Or will they split the bill?

Will this apply to BLM and XR demonstrations? If so how? Will protesters have to protest in groups of six only?

Come on don't be silly. Footballers and cricketers and rugby players tennis players all get tested at least twice a week and are in a bio bubble. There is no comparison to the risk they pose in spreading the virus. I'd rather have a bit of sport to watch on TV. The two lads who broke the rules in Iceland were fined a substantial amount, publicly humiliated and kicked out of the squad.

Would you be happier if governments took no action? 50 million people died from the Spanish flu. With today's population and world travel you could expect that number to at least double. Would 100 million people dying make you happy?

You don't have to wait forever. Just until a vaccine comes out. That was looking like mid December before one person out of 17000 showed side effects.

Some other countries have gone back to business and put Covid-19 behind them. But they had a muture mindset instead of a childish, bratty approach.

The 6 people rule was just guidelines before, it was legal to have 30. That meant the police were powerless to disperse large groups who gathered in public or shut down private parties indoors. Of course the people involved would probably claim they were socially distancing.

Pubs ect are now going to be forced to take customers contact details for tracking, too.

On 28 September 2018, 200 000 people in Philadelphia took to the streets for a parade.

It is estimated that 2600 people died from contracting Spanish Flu in that parade.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

You don't have to wait forever. Just until a vaccine comes out. That was looking like mid December before one person out of 17000 showed side effects.

Some other countries have gone back to business and put Covid-19 behind them. But they had a muture mindset instead of a childish, bratty approach. "

Got any proof/hard evidence that 100 millions people will die???????

"Gathering of more than 6 people is illegal from Monday next week. So what ever you do in groups, on 6 people allowed.

Unless it's for work, wedding, funeral.

I think this is another silly rule which will be unenforceable and unworkable.

It's a rule that SHOULDN'T NEED enforcement.

People should just fkn do it FULL STOP

Quite.

It might not be illegal for me to be an arsehole. I should still not be an arsehole.

Why do you need the police to enforce care for your community? Why can't you just do it?

Why do we need the government to tell us how many people we are allowed to socialise with? Even though there is no limit on how many co-workers a person can have around them?

Why do people feel the need to be infantilised and babysat by the government instead of using their own common sense and good judgement?

Where did the six people rule come from? Why not eight? Ten? Four? Is this another number plucked from thin air?

How are the fines going to work? In a group of eight will they all be fined? Only two? Or will they split the bill?

Will this apply to BLM and XR demonstrations? If so how? Will protesters have to protest in groups of six only?

All good questions. So what would you do to slow down the spread of the virus? "

Increased testing, make it more easy for vulnerable people to isolate/keep safe (food deliveries, priority shopping hours etc). I don't know if it's possible to slow a spread significantly, but the priority should be to protect those in greater danger.

Sadly I don't have the answers, I just think it's important in a democracy to question laws and rules. Once we stop doing that we slide into subservience.

Yeah it's called mathematics.

Contagion spread can be mathematically predicted with computer models.

Have you got any proof that millions wouldn't die? Or is that a chance you're willing to take?

Unfortunately the elderly and vulnerable will suffer ..... the rate wasn’t low enough to open schools due to people not following guidelines all summer (I deserve a holiday, I need sex are two examples) so now schools have opened and you cannot get a test the rise will be quick and brutal.

Why is this question being asked like no one knows the answer.

Since January 2020 we have had numerous countries handle this pandemic.

So why is it a mystery to us?

They stopped working on a SARS vaccine because the spread was contained and there was no need.

Do you know why we don't have a section on the forum for smallpox? Vaccine.

Before this week when we hit a wobble, we were on course for Chaddox-one to be ready for mid December. Australia has already ordered 85 million doses for January.

We are in phase three of trials. The final stage.

Indeed.

We rely on medicine to fix so many things. Why not this? (I rely on medicine to quite literally keep me alive, which apparently some people find terrible. The treatment has existed since Victorian times)

There's unprecedented research into this.

Why? I don't understand this.

If the Oxford Vaccine is approved end of 2020 / early 2021 then the effect if this will be proportionate to how fast we can roll it out. Since we started manufacturing the vaccine months ago there will be no shortage of doses.

If we start by vaccinating the most vulnerable it will be a matter of months before life goes back to normal.

If we all hang on and all do our bit this will be less bad for all of us.

I'd sacrifice more to take on other people's burdens if I could, but unfortunately I cannot. This relies on every single one of us. And some of us are really letting the side down.

I won't be seeing any of my family again until we're all vaccinated. Unfortunately that's the reality *I* have to live with. And no, not because I'm a virtue signalling snowflake or whatever some of you think of me. Because my family are in Australia and Australia is closed until then.

Keeping some of the vulnerable indoors longer is a double edged sword..... In the world of learning disabilities staff are being attacked daily because of difficulties in understanding, frustration and being stuck indoors for 16 weeks+.

No. I think it's incredibly important to protect the most vulnerable in society.

I just think that restricting oneself unquestioningly to an arbitrary and made up number given by the government (using it's new and unprecedented powers of the Covid Act) is not it.

Also I think it's very important for people not to live in fear and to get back to something like normality. Otherwise there will be little left to go back to.

I don't see why obeying the law would be a threat. Yeah, they made a number up. But they do with everything. Why is 18 a good age to be allowed to drink alcohol, not 15, 21, or 35? Because someone somewhere decided it was 18. Shrug. I don't go giving 17 year olds alcohol, even if it's arbitrary.

People need minimal expectations of behaviour. This is what the government has said it is. Five is safer than six, six is safer than seven. They've made a compromise for whatever reasons they think (whether they're logical or not).

There is a very detailed report on this written by the people directly involved.

Unfortunately it is in a scientific website and not a reliable source like the Sun or Daily Mail so can't post a link

"The spokesperson described the pause as “a routine action which has to happen whenever there is a potentially unexplained illness in one of the trials, while it is investigated, ensuring we maintain the integrity of the trials.” The spokesperson also said that the company is “working to expedite the review of the single event to minimize any potential impact on the trial timeline.”"

While this is a setback it also puts a nail in the coffin of the antivaxer argument...

Nice goal post you have there. Shame you keep moving it because you're wedded to your nonsense dangerous ideas.

"I reckon people will still keep ignoring things cos they just wanna get on with, life but all this is never gonna go away while they do This is never gonna go away period with world travel I fear

Trials were halted this week when someone became ill.The report I read said trials would restart soon it was anticipated "

Yes but my understanding is that there are several trials, only one has been suspended so I'm still hopeful.

Everyone keeps commenting on protecting the vulnerable and high risk

So should carers and hospital staff avoid work along with others such as paramedics as they are at higher risk than the people working at home same goes for energy workers they are having to work during this time

It's OK saying that's what they signed up for when they took the roles but I don't suppose they thought their lives would be at such a high risk

Wear a mask don't go out that's your choice others don't have a choice or the UK would stop

"This can not carry on the world can not stop because of a virus we must all be able to go to school work travel leisure etc , if we do not stop this permanent soft lockdown we will totally destroy our economy beyond repair .. the number of positive cases may be rising but the number of deaths is now extremely low, last 24 hours it's less than 20 "

...the death rate may be low now but that's due to the measures previously in place, not because the virus got bored!

Left unchecked the rates of infection will rise exponentially.

No. They should use their training and the PPE which they should have been provided from the start. They did sign up for it, I'm afraid, and have faced other risks as well.

Vulnerable and high risk refers to medical conditions, not occupations. Protecting from occupational hazards is another matter.

No one has ever said "destroy the country because virus". It's "reduce risks". I don't know why people insist on making this utterly absurd.

Hospitals need to run. Kids need an education. People don't need the pub or to hold parties.

As anyone who's read me for about five minutes knows, I'm pretty rabidly pro vaccine.

I'm pro safe, tested, evaluated vaccine.

Trials being halted and even abandoned because of concerns about serious adverse reactions is an example of why I trust vaccines. We don't want people to get hurt, we want side effects to be minimal. Halting the trial to examine the risks is the process working, and how we get vaccines that will protect us rather than harm us.

"

Why do we need the government to tell us how many people we are allowed to socialise with? Even though there is no limit on how many co-workers a person can have around them?

Why do people feel the need to be infantilised and babysat by the government instead of using their own common sense and good judgement?

Where did the six people rule come from? Why not eight? Ten? Four? Is this another number plucked from thin air?

How are the fines going to work? In a group of eight will they all be fined? Only two? Or will they split the bill?

Will this apply to BLM and XR demonstrations? If so how? Will protesters have to protest in groups of six only?

So you disagree with protecting people because government policy is arbitrary and/ or incoherent?

Apparently some people do need to be told. Like we do with any of the other hundreds of thousands of laws which guide our behaviour in modern Britain.

My life since March. Protests I've been to: zero. Maximum group I've been a part of: three (outside, all 2+ metres apart). Private homes I've visited apart from my own: zero. Pubs I've been to: zero. Restaurants and cafes: one.

I don't need to be told. I also don't need to be told not to kill people (in general not just related to pandemic) - should we take the laws against murder and manslaughter off the books because it's insulting to think that people don't know not to kill people?

No. I think it's incredibly important to protect the most vulnerable in society.

I just think that restricting oneself unquestioningly to an arbitrary and made up number given by the government (using it's new and unprecedented powers of the Covid Act) is not it.

---

Also I think it's very important for people not to live in fear and to get back to something like normality. Otherwise there will be little left to go back to.

I don't see why obeying the law would be a threat. Yeah, they made a number up. But they do with everything. Why is 18 a good age to be allowed to drink alcohol, not 15, 21, or 35? Because someone somewhere decided it was 18. Shrug. I don't go giving 17 year olds alcohol, even if it's arbitrary.

People need minimal expectations of behaviour. This is what the government has said it is. Five is safer than six, six is safer than seven. They've made a compromise for whatever reasons they think (whether they're logical or not)."

The drinking age isn't comparable to the Covid restrictions as it's set at the legal age of adulthood. (Also it's legal to give a 17 alcohol in a restaurant as part of a meal or at home).

But I think this is deviating too far from the topic now!

But the legal age of adulthood is arbitrary. Utterly, utterly arbitrary. So is 6.

Some people need to be told how to behave. If you're not one of them, and you're still behaving safely, fine, crack on. If you're not, here's the minimum acceptable standard of behaviour.

Pubs are an easy target. Of course people need jobs. But what's the cost benefit of inebriation reducing social distancing, versus helping those who can't work?

No, sex toys aren't essential. Clothes... some people will need clothes for some reasons but Primark is not necessary per se.

Food, medicine, infrastructure, security, education are essential. Everything else is not: then we need to work out how important it is, what the risk is, what the benefit is, and behave accordingly. To me pubs are high risk and low benefit when considering priorities during a health crisis.

Pubs are low benefit. Getting d*unk on stuff you can buy in supermarkets is not essential in the slightest. In fact: drinking alcohol is an entirely voluntary activity. Food can also be purchased elsewhere in safer ways.

Anyone who signs up to work in emergency services knows there's risks involved. Dying maybe not, but they didn't see this coming.

If we lived in a country where there were no benefits, no furlough scheme, no bounce back loan scheme, no Business Interuption Loan scheme then it would be a valid argument.

As for education, there were children in outback Australia being educated without setting foot in a classroom before there was internet. Are our children losing an entire education? If a vaccine comes out in early 2021 then they will have lost one year. Not an entire education.

As for clothes. Try and give your clothes away right now. You can't the charity shops are full and the collection bins overflowing. No one is freezing to death.

Keep locking down and opening up will only continue happening figures will fall then rise again

It's here to stay so your saying we should all isolate for good as that's the only way to stop it

People who society feel have to continue working to allow the rest of us to be safe n comfortable should do so not for their safety but for everyone else's

This can continue until all 65000000 people in the UK have had it or until it disappears which will be a very long time

Increased testing, make it more easy for vulnerable people to isolate/keep safe (food deliveries, priority shopping hours etc). I don't know if it's possible to slow a spread significantly, but the priority should be to protect those in greater danger.

Sadly I don't have the answers, I just think it's important in a democracy to question laws and rules. Once we stop doing that we slide into subservience.

No Democracy from Johnson who feels fit to override International law to get his beloved Brexit through, with this in mind I will break his 6 people law to see my grandkids. "

Your aptitude is to be applauded.

Sorry that's the wrong word but I don't want a ban

O o O oo

When I am out in the shop I am more aware and make sure other people are at a distance from me. We went for a meal out and didn't come closer than two metres to anyone apart from the woman bringing the food out.

When I am with family in a house or garden I have to keep stopping myself from being too close and it is really tempting to have a hug. I think you relax more with people you know so could be why the rule is coming back in in houses rather than in pubs etc

And I won’t be going to Alton Sodding Towers either. "

Because common sense and good judgement are lacking among some people in our society. That partly explains the rise in infections we are seeing.

Time for the government to reintroduce restrictions to address this.

I don’t know if you are not aware but it hasn’t finished yet FFS! In fact it has barely got started, most of the worlds population has not yet been exposed to the virus. What proportion of the population should die from a pandemic before you would deem it worthy of government reaction

It's possible it's partly an economic priority: the risk is worth it for economic development but not for friends and family gathering.

I disagree with that, obviously, but the government are considering competing priorities.

"...Under 6 we ok???..."

--------------

I'm sure you know it doesn't mean that.

I suspect the number 6 was chosen because that's an average number for the size of a family.

The higher the number of people gathering together, the greater the the risk of spread. So 20 people gathering together has a higher risk than 3 people gathering together.

If the government limits it to just 3 people gathering, then it will be difficult for a family of 5 to go out for a meal together. 6 seems to be a more reasonable number when you consider family sizes.

I have concerns about this government, but we should look to that rather than whingeing about having to make minor sacrifices to protect public health.

We were all under house arrest in April FFS and now we're going all 1984 because we're asked to limit groups? C'mon get real.
