The virus a linchpin for other world events?

There is the linchpin theory, in which an event, catogorised as an X-event, which is one off in the terms of the theory then causes a chain reaction of other events. Such historical examples are the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the 2009 Financial Crash.

Does anyone else feel that this pandemic is another "X-event". There were so many tensions rising before the pandemic, there was the distrust of the media, the privacy issues online etc and most of all the US tensions.

Correlations, sure.

Whatever any real or guessed about things that may be connected, it's probably going to be an unnecessary distraction from dealing with the problems caused through the virus infections going on at a dangerous level. We must give that our energy now, as we've not done brilliantly with it.

Sure, other things can be looked at but there are 1001 dangerous conspiracy and other theories being very heavily promoted, that are manipulating people in to dangerous behaviours.

No its the question that is the virus going to be the spark that sets off other world events.

I am not insinuating any conspiracy theories about the virus or denying that it is serious.

I agree with you, it might sound cliched but things won't be the same again. I think we're only starting to see the upheaval.

I hate having to say any questioning of things is not denying the virus.

Look at the USA. The media are showing rising tensions with the militia, the govenors and the Federal Government. Tensions that befoe covid would never have been so strong.

Covid is not the cause of the issues America is experiencing. It had certainly amplified them but is not causal.

The powder kegs keep getting added to the pile year on year, but covid has opened the door and placed a lighter at the entrance.

Its exposed the situation. Im suggesting that covid will cause chain reactions... one such is the exposure of the issues in the usa to a spark.

I do hope you are wrong but it does make me wonder if it's even more reason not to go into a shell of safety first all the time. Life is for living. Live it.......

There will definitely be ramifications and the financial implications will be substantial, especially as countries have not been affected equally by this. The USA obviously will be subject to heavy levels of challenges.

China has obviously been criticised by Trump, yet their economies are inter-dependent, the USA's global leadership could weaken further, with the ensuing pressures between them and others heightened.

The global heating issue is the greatest threat to the world that we live in and our international conflicts will be inflamed by this. We have many choices open to us, including making the world a safer, more equitable place for all.

The covid-19 damage could run into and help manifest the awareness that much of the world is not run in a manner that's good enough for the majority and that significant revolution is needed to correct this.

The occupy movement highlighted awareness amongst many of the needs for equitable changes. Impending greater climate damage, its impact on everyone's life, coupled with lasting impacts of the covid-19 problems, could catalyse fundamental revolutions in human society, whether a major element, or smaller. Some changes would be great.

But doesn't everything lead to something else?

Look long enough and hard enough then I'm sure there'd be a correlation between killing a wasp and a hurricane hitting Ealing Common.

Absolutely, our brains like stories and reasons for things so events being random doesn’t sit well with us. We will always seek to make connections, even when there aren’t any.

I think what the op is trying to say is, is this virus and pandemic a mark in history that is the turning point for things in the future.

The way it is looking is maybe the recovery will speed up the need for greener power as in the UK government are will to give more money the new greener tech and power generation and hopefully the world. Also the way we have been working has changed, working from home and all the global effort in the search for a vaccine for it.

Hopefully and changes caused by the pandemic can be a change for good because at the moment its mainly negative news.

I can see it maybe pushing tensions higher where they already exist.

The paranoid conspiracy theorist in me also wonders whether the testing is building a dna library.

I had not even thought of that. Might as well do that too. Most of us unlock phones with finger prints or iris patterns. Then theres the case of DNA services showing your ancestors on a map, giving DNA to government's. Who's to say companies have not already sold finger prints to the government.

Now I sound a bit conspiracy theoryist.
